LYRICS
Mother, do you think they'll drop the bomb?
Mother, do you think they'll like this song?
Mother, do you think they'll try to break my balls?
Ooooh aah, mother, should I build the wall?
Mother, should I run for president?
Mother, should I trust the government?
Mother, will they put me in the firing line?
Ooooh aah, is it just a waste of time?
Hush now, baby, baby, don't you cry
Mama's gonna make all of your nightmares come true
Mama's gonna put all of her fears into you
Mama's gonna keep you right here under her wing
She won't let you fly but she might let you sing
Mama's gonna keep baby cosy and warm
Ooooh, babe, ooooh, babe, ooooh, babe
Of course Mama's gonna help build the wall
Mother, do you think she's good enough?
Mother, do you think she's dangerous?
Mother, will she tear your little boy apart?
Oooh aah, mother, will she break my heart?
Hush now, baby, baby, don't you cry
Mama's gonna check out all your girlfriends for you
Mama won't let anyone dirty get through
Mama's gonna wait up till you get in
Mama will always find out where you've been
Mamma's gonna keep baby healthy and clean
Ooooh, babe, ooooh, babe, ooooh, babe
You'll always be a baby to me
Mother, didn't need to be so high

Saw them in 1993. Amazing concert. I still play their music as I’m getting ready for work or relaxing after work. I wish I had a musical talent. You are truly blessed that you do. You have a bond with them that those of who aren’t musically inclined do. Good thoughts, good words and good deeds (and yes, I know that was Freddy Mercury).

Never will we see and or hear another era of this magnitude. I was blessed to be born in this era.

In 1980 I was 16 years old and could not stop playing this album, it gave me all the strength and confidence I needed at that time. When I look back and wonder where those 41 years have gone, my eyes begin to water....... never ever put the brakes on your ambitions.... take care all.

I don’t understand your sentiment. I’ve always viewed this song from the perspective that the “mother” was a controlling tyrant.. one who controlled him and kept him hidden from the world.. certainly not a love song for your mother by any means.
@jakeo1209
@jakeo1209 3 жыл бұрын
@@sweettee_gaming It's not something logical. It's an emotional thing. Mother can be a controlling tyrant, checking your girlfriends for you, not letting anything dirty get through, whether it's good or bad, and you can still have a deep emotional attachment to her. My mother had a lot of annoying little habits, nothing crazy, just annoying, and I used to snap at her when I was young. But she loved me so much that I forced myself, very consciously, to ignore whatever things I thought she did wrong. And now, 10 years after her death, I choke up every time I think about her.

You have my empathy. I've been without my dad for 30 years now - I let him die in my arms, so he knew he wasn't alone, even while in a coma. He meant the world to me. I can still hear his laugh, voice, when I want to - back to a child. It's been tough for me, several times. Few understand what it's like to lose a parent who's also your first best friend, even snuck you into the hospital to visit your best friend, who survived being ran over by a car in front of a 7/11, was in a body cast, except for an arm. My dad claimed l was older, and had to act 4 years older. Her nurse figured it out, but let me stay, my friend was tired. Head nurse chased me out. I walked like a Princess, next to my dad. Downstairs, ran out the door, where we both couldn't stop laughing! He had me wear my Sunday best, and it worked. Brought a card to her, with everyone's well wishes. You will recall the best of times, the easiest!! I miss him dearly. My mom just had 2 strokes, first one in front of me. Yelled at her, "I'm not letting you go out like dad!"

@@hunormagyar1843 No disrespect to the OP, but it's a valid question. The song's pretty dark, it's not a straightforward motherly love song - it's ultimately about how an overbearing mother helps to sow the seeds of later isolation ("of course momma's gonna help build the wall").

@@BallardianI think as I child you don’t listen to the words as deeply, especially at an age where your parents sing you bedtime songs. It still has a beautiful and melodic calmness about which delivers the entendres message. Plus there’s still the lines “mummas gonna keep baby cosy and warm”. Of course that’s not the message of the song but it’s up to interpretation as the listener as well

The older I get the more appreciation I have for the music of Pink Floyd; and more specifically Roger Waters. What an absolute incredible lyricist. I can’t help but realize how fast my life has passed me by. It amazes me how nostalgic and melancholy I get watching all these videos and really listening to the lyrics. It forces me to examine my life and how I have contributed to this world. All these artists have given us the gift of their music that will last forever...I could never thank them enough.

I like it very much when Waters and Gilmour share their vocals in a song like here. Waters brings an element of "world-weariness" into the song, a bit of melancholy and pessimism, of slight aggression so to say. While Gilmour brings in a down-to-earth element. Waters raises the questions, Gilmour gives the answers. I like them both. They gave so much to us all.

There is absolutely no doubt we are. It was the best time for music ever. We are the last "deep" generation. I am listening to this weeping for our children and their children because they will never have what all of this gave to us. I am Gen X (born in 66) but i have a daughter who is 10 y/o and another who is 28. I hate this world they are coming up in. I do not even recognize where i am anymore, but i am so grateful i grew up (or at least tried to 🤣) in that era. And even though we were apparently all used as lab rats for a new Social Experiment (first children of divorce, latchkey kids, and sex-drugs-rock*n* roll programming), i had a helluva good time participating it. Sadly, i do not believe life for kids and young people will ever be like that again. Take care.

When I was 27 my life crashed and I lost my love. Then I locked myself in my apartment for 1 week and drank all the alcohol I could find. And every minute of this week, Pink Floyd's Mother ran on excess button. Around the clock, for 7 days. That was psychedelic. At the end of this 7 day trip into the abyss of my psyche, I had a very borderline experience. I turned to look, but it was gone, I couldn't put my finger on it now. The child was grown, the dream was gone. Today, 25 years later, I am still afraid to introduce this song to my children, I am afraid that they will get too close to the content. Together with "Comfortably Numb" it is one of the best songs ever written for me. And "The Wall" is not just a music album, it is a gigantic masterpiece. But it's so mesmerizing, it's so dangerous.

👍🎤🎸👏 Great performance from a timeless artist/band imo! I’m almost 70 now and still 💖 ALL genres of music. Although THIS song/concert was done when I was only 25, it means so much MORE to me now and I can relate to the lyrics better than when I was younger. I guess it’s true - ‘the times they are a changing’ as the saying goes, along with ‘with age comes wisdom’!

One of my favorite songs of Pink Floyd is Hey you out there on the road doing? Can you hear me? Hey you, hi there so many Pink Floyd songs. I got shy and I clammed up. I love Pink Floyd. I love his that love the music. Like I said, I like Janis Joplin, Fleetwood Mac. Even Steven Nixon. She went off on her own. So many music. It's of course I'm in my fifties early fifties. I'm not going to say how old but I missed out on so much. I wish I would have got to see it so many so many out there that I wanted to see just front and I'm a hippie. I'm one of those ones that just push their way to the front so I can just be right there. I like I'm a hippie a wildflower and I'm proud of that. I love your music. Thank you for it cuz I listen to a lot. I listen to a lot of different music it's it's got to have like I don't know it's just got to have some soul to it. It's got to have some. I don't know it's just maybe maybe I'm just I'm a skinwalker. I like a lot and I enjoy your music so thank you for that and God bless you

When my father was young, he immigrated to the USA to support his family since there were limited opportunities in his home country. Unfortunately, he couldn't visit his mother or bid her farewell when she passed away. Whenever he drinks, he opens up about missing her and allows himself to cry. Despite this, he's an amazing father, and if I could make a wish, it would be for him to have the chance to say goodbye to his mother.
