@@KingCrimson82 His transformation from what he looked like just 5 years prior is a whole other person. I mean just look up the picture of the day he showed up at the studio compared to what he looked like in 69-70. Not only did he not have any hair but no eyebrows and he was twice the size he used to be. He looks pretty unrecognizable compared to what he looked like just a few years before. It's sad

I think the only person truly hurting was syd. Waters is a straight up psychopath. He stole his band, his songs, his spot and his legacy, and made a career out of his "insanity". Dude wanted to be syd so bad, he made a movie about him and then tried to cast himself

@Terrence Reardon and Friends Podcast Podcast Not to mention that Pink Floyd always supported Syd after his departure. Shortly after they became a supergroup with "Dark Side Of The Moon", they released the compilation "A Nice Pair" in 1973, which contained the first two Floyd albums and made Syd a bunch of royalties. This had been going on over the years after 1975 and he still received royalties from compilations, live albums and singles that featured his songs. David Gilmour pointed out that they always made sure that the money got to him. In the end, Syd died as a multi millionaire and all that thanks to the other Floyd members.

@@GPsgurl80back in highschool I use to have a friend group and it reminds me of the band. Cause we were so young and took lsd. I liked it despite having a bad trip cause I was aware I wasn’t who I portrayed to be. But one of my friends who I grew up with completely lost touch. He ended up ghosting us all besides one of the friends in the group. And it took three years until he texted me on my bday. And he asked if I wanted to catch up with him. And it was amazing seeing him again. Very different from the guy I grew up with now. But I’m happy he’s gotten out his hole and is doing something. But I remember one of the first things he said was how he was scared and how he didn’t wanna see us during his healing time.

There is another interview of Roger Waters in 2001 where he explains this incident in more detail. Basically after they all huddled around him, Syd asked them what the song (Shine on You Crazy Diamond) was about. They told him that it was about him. After that, he became even more emotional and quickly left the studio and they didn't see him for years until he passed away.

If I remember correctly (and I may not be as it's been a while since I saw this whole documentary), Roger does speak about it. Although Roger has contradicted himself a few times over the years--especially about whether or not "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" is specifically about Syd--he's consistently recounted this moment as being extremely emotional for him.
@atomeyes99

@@TippiGordon here's the problem. i think that Roger's re-written his personal history over the decades. my take has always been that Waters wanted PF to succeed. think he blamed Syd for PF's few years of stumbling around and trying to find their footing. Syd always haunted Roger, but i think it lead to a lot of resentment. Egowise, Roger probably considered himself to be the leader in waiting. I think Roger plays into the whole "I miss my chum" thing nowadays. it's trendy to love Syd. and he's probably convinced himself that he had nothing to do with Syd's collapse and did everything he could to keep Syd in the band

Like Roger said on this very documentary, paraphrasing, "there may've not even been a Pink Floyd, or all the successful albums we're known for, much less be sitting here talking about one of them if not for Syd first leading us down this road."

As far as I know, the clocks for "Dark Side" were brought in by Alan Parsons. Other than that, Pink Floyd always supported Syd after his departure. @@TheAmarok87 Are you trying to say Parsons idea was original? surely not as there was Bike before it which is exactly the same minus the "madcap" element of whistle noises, Waters coldly dissed Syds suggestion of a female saxophonist and what popped up on Darkside as well? a female and a saxophone and it became their biggest seller. Yeah Dave has a conscience along with the others but in spite of all that Syd hated Waters guts and it really looks like that hate has actually transferred onto the remaining members against Roger Waters and no amount of proving what a loyal communist "for the cause" Waters is will fix it eh. Basically Waters hides his guilt behind leftist politics and the others are not impressed, Live 8 showed that and Geldofs cringeworthy boast he "brought them back together" just drove them even further apart as Waters had clearly learned nothing still hanging round with that divisive bozo and the division from the Wall really was irreparable, the Division Bell was a fitting title eh.

I have 2 questions about this. 1 How did syd know that they were going to be there that day. 2 Who let him in? I don't believe that this was just a coincidence. I sure as hell don't believe they would leave the front door to the studio unlocked so that any random stranger could just wander in there, especially not with a bug band like Floyd inside working. I am convinced that someone contacted syd and told him they were working on a song about him, that same someone also let him in the studio that day. I think the shaved head and odd behavior was his way of fucking with them. I think he trolled the shit out of them and they fell for it, kinda the same thing when he kept changing the song have you got it yet. This is all just my opinion clearly I wasn't there but i dont believe he was as crazy as he made out. He just didn't want to be syd barrett anymore so he went back to being Roger

I hardly recognized him when he arrived at Hipgnosis. He was very bloated. His hair was completely shorn. He was wearing a white trench coat, and I remember one of my assistants said, "Oh, by the way, Syd Barrett's at the door." I walked there to the front door and I opened the door and I couldn't believe what I saw. He was sort of incoherent rambling, "Where are they recording? What's happening?" I said, "Go to Abbey Road." He went there and even Pink Floyd didn't recognize him when he arrived there."

It’s important to remember that they were literally writing a song/album about him, and he just showed up. They definitely would have been thinking a jt him a lot during that time, especially because the band was on the rocks at that point. He was only 28/29 in that photo. And not to make it just about his looks, but compared to how slim, elegant and handsome he was only a few years prior, it’s really no wonder that the guys in the band would have been so moved to see how he looked that day in the studio.

@JamesWestfall29
@JamesWestfall29 3 жыл бұрын
The song throughout the whole clip is Shine On You Crazy Diamond, which was written about Syd Barrett. It has 9 parts; part I is playing for most of the clip and part II begins around 2:30. On the album (Wish You Were Here) the first 5 parts are heard at the beginning and the last 4 parts at the end.

''If you looked at him in '67 , it's a great difference'' Well that's only 41 years later isn't it ;) I think he kinda even looks young for his age right there, in spite of the eyebrows. It's not like the rest of the band still looks the same do they :) That is what I find most odd and creepy, This incessant talk about how weird he looked and acted. When in fact, they rejected him themselves, They kicked him out, because money, fame and reputation were more important to them then friendship, Then stabbed him in the back some more by making a song about him and putting him on display like a circus act. What great friends to have .. Normal, well adjusted people are so lovely >< what a blessing indeed

Syd had to leave because he took a trip and never came back to his senses. Even as a a friend you can't help someone, who isn't actually "there" to help. Pink Floyd always supported Syd after his departure. So much for 'they didn't care about him and only for the fame and the money', eh? So next time, before you accuse them wrongly for "stabbing him in the back" or other bullshit, get your facts straight!
