Floyd really are something special, been listening to them for over forty years now. Could you give Steve Vai, 'Tender Surrender' or 'Whispering A Prayer' a try? Any live version is best. I'll also throw in Joe Satriani, 'Surfing With The Alien or 'Flying In A Blue Dream' there's a live version of both songs from the same concert here on KZbin. All the best from the far north of New Zealand.

People often say that David's guitar is singing to them. At the end of the spotlights on the ball sequence where he picks up the pace the guitar sounds like it's singing 'GLITTERBALL' repeatedly, and singing 'OPEN' repeatedly at the first reveal of the central light. I don't know if thats by accident or design, but if by design then it is pure genius.

I feel I should relay this story. It is not mine, but it bears repeating as it is the best description of the solos in this song. A couple was listening to this song. The guy turned to the girl at the beginning of the first solo in the tune and said, "This is the second greatest solo ever recorded." She replied, "So, what is the greatest?" The guy turned to her with tears in his eyes and said, "It starts in about a minute." This performance of this song is beyond iconic. Nothing will ever be like that again. I saw this show. (Not at Earl's Court... more's the pity...) To say it was life changing is to make light of what I experienced. And, this band has been changing my life since 1967. "When I was a child, I caught a fleeting glimpse... out of the corner of my eye."

this was played 14 days in a row sold out. Saw 5 times. 200,000 watts of power, 128 wireless speakers, 200 ton stage, 53 semis to move. Disco ball is a FU to music critics who said they will not make it as they don't play dance music. Remember this was 1994 and their last tour. Greg Phillinganes ( Micheal Jackson musical director) saw this and commented that they are on a whole different level.

Saw the show live in Chicago that year. Performed at an outdoor stadium before roughly 60,000 people. As if the already incredible light show wasn't enough, we had the added benefit of lightning accompanying that solo. As if God himself wanted to get in on the act. Out of body experience!! ⚡ Check out "High Hopes" live from this Pulse concert next.

@@michaelhowell7275 they didn't allow the lasers at Soldier Field as I recall due to its proximity to Meigs Field - the nearby executive airport at the time. @@michaelhowell7275 no, the lasers are those very thin streaks of brightly colored lights you see at the very beginning of the video pointed toward the sky. Powerful enough to blind pilots if pointed directly at them. Between O'hare and Meigs Field the city considered their use too dangerous at that location and refused to give them permits to use them. They also refused to shut down air space around Soldier Field. Leaving Chicago laser-less. But I didn't really miss them.

As a classical guitarist you certain appreciate the talent and genius of David Gilmour's guitar playing. His wife, who writes his lyrics describes his music as so suggestive and she goes on to say "David speaks with the guitar"... One you would thoroughly enjoy is his rendition of "High Hopes" live in Gdansk, where they use the entire string section of the Polish Orchestra and his steel guitar solo, and then acoustic ending is truly magical and even Angelic for the acoustic solo: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qIbCnGt4g6iWha8 (High Hopes - David Gilmour live @ Gdansk 2006)

The stage is incredible, isn't it? What's really incredible is that this stage was built and is owned by Pink Floyd, and there were 3 of these stages! Yes, 3 identical stages, Lighting, Rigs, Sound System, Giant Disco ball, video circle of lights, everything you see and hear,... they built and used 3 of them! The stages was modeled after the old Hollywood Bowl, they were 180 feet long with a 130-foot-high arch. These 3 identical stages leapfrogged across North America and Europe in 1994, during Pink Floyd's "The Division Bell" World Tour. They needed 3 stages because of the massiveness of the Tour, and the number of dates they were performing. They played over 60 concerts in the US and Canada alone, and it took a lot of time to set up and tear down such a mammoth production, it took 3 and 1/2 days at each venue to "load in", and another 2 full days to "load out". They had to have multiple stages to be able to do the over 60 concert dates in North America, when the band got to the city/venue, the stage was pretty much ready to go. The logistics of this Tour was massive and unpresented att, they had 53 trailer trucks transporting over 700 tons of steel, 161 fulltime crew members it was the largest Tour ever at the time.

"Sorrow" from the same concert is possibly better - but the whole concert was enough to cement Pink Floyds place in the pantheon of modern musical greats. They opened with the song "High Hopes", something we all had, but now in todays age of cynicism and mediocrity that emotion seems unfortunately naive. I envy you discovering this music for the first time, keep going, there are so many wonderful emotions they evoke.

Definitely one of the most amazing stages ever. They long said the Hollywood Bowl was one of their favorite venues to play and this stage is an actual size reproduction of it. What most people don’t realise is that the full guitar solo in this concert is 4 minutes long! Most ‘Pop’ songs are shorter than that! Pink Floyd are a band where you treat the entire album as one single song and listen to the whole thing in one sitting. The album takes you on a journey through your own head! This is a band you don’t listen to, you ‘Experience’ them. Their concerts are an epic events with music, lights and images that mess with your mind and if your listening at home Headphones are compulsory to get the best out of the hidden jewels and moments in their music.

I was there, best concert of my life. Rig took 3 days to build and was £3m, remember this was 30 years ago.. ..the most expensive ever made...but they had to have ANOTHER rig so they could leap frog venues..due to the build time.

Imagine being a teenager at this show (technically the American Division Bell tour) and peaking on mushrooms for the first time. I thought when disco ball slip is was being taken up. And maybe I was. I’ve not been the same sense.

Brilliant isn’t it. You should try this one too. My favourite performance of ‘Comfortably Numb’. I was lucky enough to see the ‘One Night Only’ Cinema showing of David Gilmour’s return to the Pompeii Amphitheater, in 2016, with his Band. (Pink Floyd’s previous visit being in 1971, when they were filmed playing ‘Echoes’, in the Centre of the Amphitheater, with no audience). And this version of ‘Comfortably Numb’, from that 2016 Show, is sensational. This time to an audience. And what a light Show this has too. All in the stunning setting of this Roman Amphitheater. David Gilmour, at his best, aged 70. Incredible. Just my own feelings. kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3mueGp7gt2KjZo 🎶🎸❤️🎸🎶
