So much deeper at 27 than at 17, with 3 children under 3, no career, and suddenly realizing that after all this time I will do it alone after all. 5 years wasted. And now I can listen to this song and see each verse is a progression of life stages and mental progression to disillusionment and seeing mortality.

I was 15 years old when " Dark Side Of The Moon " first came out. Today in my late 50's I am amazed today that their music and lyrics were so profound for such young kids barely out of their teens. Did not realize that then, but now I am simply amazed at their talent and listen to their music with more appreciation.

Me either, my brother--Floyd fans 'get it'--just like the band did. I do with Rogers & Waters could have 'split the difference' and given all of us fans more of their incredible music! What Roger & David have done on their own is awesome on both counts--BUT IT IS NOT THE SAME!

@xSOULxRAGEx10 жыл бұрын
60srecords Ohohoho, Yes, the Great Gig in the Sky is about death. Even the name gives it a hint that its about death. Within the first 30 seconds of the song it goes like this: "And I am not afraid of dying, any time would do, matter of mind. Why should I be afraid of dying? There's no reason for it, your gonna go somewhere." I could go on, but I dont want to state the obvious.

This is quite simply the greatest rock 'n roll song ever recorded. It will get more poignant the older you get--in your 20's it may not floor you--in your 30's it starts to get your attention--when you pass 40 you'll know what I mean, as well as what the song means- - -"and then one day you'll find, 10 years have got behind you, no one told you when to run--you missed the starting gun. It's a very rough realization, and will shape your life moving forward. How many songs can do that? Then they hit you with the double whammy--Well you run, and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking, racing around, but don't look behind you again--the sun is the same in a relative way but you're older--shorter of breath, and one day closer to death. As right as rain--doesn't get any better or more truthful than this. . . God I love them, and always will.

...waiting for someone or something to show you the way. "I am the Way, tbe Truth and the Life, and no one comes to the Father, but by Me." - the Lord Jesus Christ. Knowingly, or unknowingly, Pink Floyd is preaching the Gospel.
@DistrictWitch2 жыл бұрын
no, they weren't preaching they were making music. Not everything is 'Jaysus' for god's sake. This is about mortality and mysticism not your ugly christianity. Listen to the last few lines, it even talks about YOU - 'Far away across the field The tolling of the iron bell Calls the faithful to their knees To hear the softly spoken magic spells'
