i was born in 1960 the year is now 2024... the only thing i see, that was truly real since my arrival here to this planet, was/is The Pink Floyd... Roger, you were never bought.. thank you, boys..

nick mason must have been hella pissed when roger told him there wasnt enough room for this song on the album... kickass drumming

But you couldn't tell, because of all of them he is the very definition of Brit's Stoic.
@neaituppi73065 жыл бұрын
It wasn't actually Roger's idea to cut any of the songs from the album though. It was the record company. Which is why they are adding them all in here in the live shows.

I remember seeing "p.f. the wall" on the marquees of the movie theaters when I was seven and just knew something special was coming out of it...gotta love the weed driven '70's!

this song is actually soooo heavy and hard rock!! This is why Roger Waters is a genius, he incorporates all the good things of music in his writting. I love this song!!!

Every once in a while I think that I have outgrown the melodrama of late Pink Floyd in general (and The Wall in particular) then I remember songs like this - an outtake, for god's sake. While my relationship to this album may ebb and flow over time, I just have to admit it has more brilliant moments than I can count. What a treat to see this live clip. Prior to youtube I had always heard there were unreleased pro shots from this tour. Great to see. Thanks for posting.

"Wish You Were Here" was 44:28 long (21 minutes side one and 23:28 side two) yet the sound quality was excellent. The second LP of the very record we're talking about (The Wall) was almost 42 minutes long. Double Genesis album "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" had two over 45-minute LP's. Why couldn't they make side one of first disc longer by 2 minutes or so, is beyond me.

It wasn't on the original album because it was too long. They decided they had to cut some of the songs that had been written out to keep it down to just a double LP. In fact, this song was dropped at a very late stage, because the lyric sheets had already been finalized for the first string of pressings. I dunno if it was changed later, but my LP copy lists this song on the lyric sheet, which also lists Hey You as the song on side three, and The Show Must Go On has an extra verse, as well.

@ericcarrtime all the concept albums were thought of by Roger from dsom to the final cut. Without him there is no concept behind Pink Floyd, just empty spaces and riffs. Rogers art turns that into something awesome... art rock.

Amused to death was a Masterpiece. The other guys were great musicians together. It truly hurt when Gilmour didn't want to do a reunion tour. I love him to death and he is the best musician out of them, but he had a bad attitude through Live 8. Roger was totally humble. It seems like he has a great outlook now. I never thought I would see the day. Dave should have done it for the fans.

He (Willie Wilson - the 2nd drummer) was part of the "Surrogate Band" that opened the show and is mentioned so many times throughout the narrative. If you watch a lot of the videos posted from "The Wall" live shows, he's just playing a tambourine or a cowbell. But as for why they decided to have him double Nick's part on this (and other) songs - anyone's guess is as good as mine.

Not sure. Maybe Alan Parker (who was the guy who was REALLY in charge of the movie, despite Roger's best efforts) thought what they filmed didn't work as well, or maybe Parker or someone at the studio thought the film was too long, though I'm not sure how cutting a five minute song would make it "suitably short enough for the cinemaplex" or whatever.

Yes, you can have as much as about 35 minutes on an LP, but the sound quality becomes compromised above about 20 minutes. You lose dynamic range, and you also the bottom end. Also, because the grooves are packed tighter, they become much more fragile, making any wear or damage more catastrophic than something that's shorter. Though thinking about it now, I'm not sure what difference cutting such a short song from the LP would have made.

that was kinda harsh but I honestly do feel like Roger did a majority of things bc he truly is an artist and artists need control. And since no one else would write, Roger, being the artist he is, took control. but i guess i just don't like dave cuz he won't get over it. during an interview he said "hell no" (or something to that affect) when asked if a reunion was in the future. Then a few months later Rick dies. That just upset me as a fan you know?

What is the point of a second drummer playing with Nick Mason?!?! I cant figure that out! Waters criticized the reformed Pink Floyd in 1987 of using support musicians. Yet he brought in support musicians to play with the band for live shows of 'Animals' and 'The Wall'. Go figure The only thing I didn't like about the reformed Pink Floyd live shows especially during the 'Pulse' tour were the female singers.

you're exactly right gwl - well actually 'animals' was the beginning of the end - 'the wall' was the end of pink floyd and really it was roger waters debut solo album - which is why it's pretty much garbage (except for 'comfortably numb' - a gilmour number) - i'll take my disdain for waters to my grave - a great bassist, a great lyricist, a brilliant mind, and the sole reason the band broke up - for all his greatness, he was an asshole just the same

Too long my ass. Just two minutes of additional music, the length of first LP would increase from about 39:00 to 41:00, making it about 21 minutes per side, what's wrong with that? Maximum capacity of a single LP was about 25-30 minutes per side. It's such a stupidity that they dropped it, because for me it is really one of the highlights of the entire concept. No such feelings about LP2 though, "The Show" wasn't a particularly great song, so we really needn't another verse.
