So i just got a record player tonight for my birthday, great quality turntable at 29 years old. so my uncle was like " yo go in the basement and go through the full crate of vinyls i have. so this was one of the ones i pulled out. same press the half speed press brand new in the plastic not even opened! . im not even tempted to open it.. might hold on to it till im 80 and pass it down to one of my kids . my uncle hooked me up with a few good vinyls rarely played from floyd, henderix, zepplin, Sinatra, cash, neil young.

OK, you all should just LOVE this little story: I own one of these CBS Half-speed Masters of WYWH. I bought it used at a record store in Houston, TX in the mid 80's called "Tapes - N -T's." (I used to work there - was a GREAT little store!) Anyway, I took it home and it sat for a week before I took it over to a friend's house and we listened to it. There was ONE SKIP in the vinal - just one - but guess where it is? Right after Roger Waters sings "Running over the same old ground..." !!!!!! Yep, MY version of this album goes: "Running over the same old ground, same old ground, but have we found the same old fears?" You cannot tell it is a skip either, it is entirely clean and no 'pop' like a normal skip! I was so blown away, that I never got rid of it. What a miraculous place for that skip! It is amazing.

@@floydspearls380 I wish I could!I do not have the ability to play vinal at the moment! (Wah!) My old turntable broke a couple of years ago and I have not made the effort to get a new one. A couple thousand LPs crated up, incl. many, many bootlegs of concerts, but no way to listen to them. If my situation changes, I'll do it, but otherwise.........8^(

Yes kids , there was a day when after you got home from the record store it was time to open your album. First you enjoyed sniffing the newly pressed vinyl disc, then the cardboard envelope the album came in. It was then time to slap it on the turntable and crank up the volume. After sitting there for a minute or two, you suddenly realized that there was a poster tucked in the album cover. You then proceeded to place said poster on wall. You have arrived. 70's teenager. I Wouldn't trade it for anything.

Totally. It’s a poignant finale not only to the track and the album, but to this chapter in the band’s journey. They would sound very different from now on. There are some incredibly moving live performances of this piece from the ‘75 - ‘77 period. The quiet Mr Wright had the last word here.

So far this sounds quite good, if perhaps, just a tad "bright" to my grizzled ears, and a tiny bit of surface noise, perhaps, at times. I did buy the latest CD remaster of WYWH, in fact most of the newer remasters (I thought DSOM sounded dreadful!), and this may or may not beat the sound of that latest remaster (probably does, a bit, because it's orig. vinyl half-speed), but I will say that they both sound good, but that the latest remaster is REALLY well-done and can match this half-speed version for sure, I believe. The newest DSOM remaster was a massive let-down. It didn't even sound listenable, and wasn't even a tenth as good sounding as my original mid-80s Japanese CBS DSOM CD pressing. I compared the two, no contest.

Part of the now age-old issue: CD's, mp3's, and mp4's, are so much cleaner, but don't have the high end response of vinyl. I am hearing high end on this recording that I haven't heard since before I wore out my first vinyl copy of this in 1977.
@thiscorrosion9004 жыл бұрын
