Thank you very much for taking the time to explain each step in great detail. I appreciate that you actually explain exactly what you are doing. A lot of "Tutorials" on KZbin now are just videos of artists painting at warp speed to some obnoxious music. It's nearly impossible to follow along with those speed paintings. Thank you so much for sharing your talent and time with us, so that we can learn how to paint. Blessings, your new fan and subscriber from North Carolina, Stacy

Hi Ekaterina, thank you so much for these tutorials, I love how you render landscapes so concisely and artfully. I noticed that you use rose madder genuine a lot in your paintings. It's a beautiful color but I heard that it's fugitive. Can you recommend another pink that has the soft glow but does not fade?
@EkaterinaSmirnova6 жыл бұрын
Xiaopei Wu thank you for pointing out about the rose madder. You are right. Well, you should look for words “new” or “permanent” in the name of the color as this very good article suggests: www.artistsnetwork.com/art-mediums/watercolor/what-is-fugitive-color-watercolor-painting-tips-from-birgit-oconnor/
@EkaterinaSmirnova6 жыл бұрын
Xiaopei Wu so, Permanent Rose (Winsor & Newton) is the way to go it appears. You brought a very good point, I now even want to make a class to explain the properties of colors. Thank you.
@xiaopeiwu26906 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I'd love to see that class. I enjoyed your desert painting class very much. Thank you for these wonderful tutorials!
@raosprid6 жыл бұрын
I use Quinacridone Rose (PV19) (aka Permanent Rose in Winsor & Newton). It's easier to get, less expensive than Rose Madder Genuine, stronger tinting (which means it's not as easily overpowered when mixed with other colors, it's easier to produce a strong dark color and the tube will last longer), more intense and not prone to fading like RMG is. Unlike RMG, Quinacridone Rose is staining and usually has little to no texture. Another pink I like is Cobalt Violet Light. This one is non-staining, has a lovely texture and it will never fade. However I don't end up using it too much because it's weakly tinting (easily overpowered in mixes) and tends to be expensive.
@EkaterinaSmirnova6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing. It is a good tip. I also have Quinacridone Rose, but Cobalt Violet Light I need to try. You see, for beginners it is really not very important what they use. I don't even like naming particular colors, just say red or blue. I want my students to study how to use prime colors 1st. When it gets to a professional level, then many things become important.

Can you use a canvas for watercolors?
@EkaterinaSmirnova6 жыл бұрын
Well... you can, but watercolor will act very differently on it. There are different canvases too, some are absorbent, some are not at all. You will not be able to use the same techniques that I teach on canvases. Fun to try though.
@autumnb90926 жыл бұрын
Ekaterina Smirnova I tried it on a canvas. You’re definitely right but it didn’t turn out too bad.

I don't know how you don't get a green colour by putting blue on that yellow...I git it and it looked bad ...
@KanineK9K5 жыл бұрын
How come everyone doing tutorials names specific colors when there doesn't seem to be a universal color pallet in watercolors? I have like 4-5 different brands and no raw sienna or rose madder genuine, so I can't paint this?
@rebekahbladen77755 жыл бұрын
Just find similar colors that are the same warm or cool tone. That's what I did and turned out just a beautiful 💓
@EkaterinaSmirnova4 жыл бұрын
Rebekah W (comment below) is right, I could just say red, blue, yellow, but you kind of can see that, right? I am just being more technical for those who need it. Find the colors that look the same and see if they mix well for your painting (tho sometimes colors DON'T mix well).
