Do you care about how your bike looks? Or would you prefer something that you can ride hard? The Bold Ultimate plans to cover both eventualities by being a futuristic bike with some very aggressive geometry dimensions. But what is it like to live with? And can it live up to its billing?

Thoroughly enjoyed this. This bike would be epic for a blind shock test. We could finally get a true indicating of what different shocks feel like without any visual bias. I would love to see these guys try out different air shocks for a few days and decide which one they would race/ride with.

Personally, I want the shock out where I can see it. Shocks are sexy pieces of hardware. Plus I like being able to glance down and see how much sag I have, and occasionally reset the O-ring before a run, and see how much of the travel I'm using. Plus I like to swap back and forth between my coil and air shocks, depending on the type of riding.

This bike is basically the enduro version of my Scott Spark…it even uses the same headset and cockpit. The hidden shock is great. Looks slick, keeps the crap off of it, and easy enough to adjust (the Spark had an external sag indicator which helps tremendously). Plus Scott designed the frame so the edges of the access port won’t cut into your hands. The Syncros headset and cockpit however are awful. Mostly because of the headset cable routing. I decided I wanted a slightly higher bar position which meant new bars, a new stem (with a different stack height) and I’m still trying to find a place that has the Syncros spacer kit for this headset in stock. Looks nice and tidy and if the stock cockpit fits you perfect then awesome, but if you get this be prepared to spend more money just to make slight adjustments.

Nice flow of thought there, I really loved this review. Especially the tech nightmare part :D I’ m using the little brother of that shock in a Scott Spark. But I live next to the Scott dealer, so I just drop the bike there if I need servicing on it. I chose that bike despite its integration, and not because of it. I just felt that its riding characteristics and geometry fit me like a glove.

I like the hidden shock. I love my 2022 Scott Spark with the hidden shock and lockout. A had to replace my rear lockout cable after a crash (the Scott cables are super thin!) and it wasn't hard at all. The Unplagged looks like it would be a blast on gnarlier trails and great on the climbs as well. Great unbiased video!

No, I don’t take issue with internal shock, especially when it’s as low as in this case as obviously the lower you can place the weight the better. Whether one is a willing participant in the financial requirement for such a look is a different question.

How hot does that air shock get enclosed within that frame? Air shocks main downfall is temperature sensitivity that affects spring rate and damping……
