@@Valientlink jimmy page the beatles the whos David bowie jimi hendrix ETC even punks in the 80s were huge fans of syd so I find it very funny how people discredit syd but truth is he made the group even greater with and without him. Syd really created punk and it wouldve been well known and more respected if the group did laugh at his ideas or think that he was crazy. Funny how Roger even stole some of syds ideas and they called him a genius. Pink floyd "fans" make the real pink floyd fans wanna tick off.

Crazy... Roger Waters was 24 in this video, the same age I went to see him at a concert two years ago with my father who was 4 years old when this was recorded. It was a wonderful experience to see Waters, a 75 year old man who played songs since my father was a baby.

Fun fact: This was recorded on the morning of April 29th, 1967 (contrary to description, there's way too much flowering for it to be March). They had to go to a gig after this which was like 6 hours away, then showed up at the 14 hour technicolor dream past midnight into the 30th. Some say Syd was appearing more distant by now, you can kind of see that 1,000 yard stare on the "Why can't you see?!" parts

@@robbiepeterh Nah, not until at least 1972. It's the Mandrax that damaged his brain, not the LSD. But he did indulge in STP and DMT when he went to North America as per their light show guy Peter Wynne Wilson (from the book Dark Globe) and that... definitely messed him up. They took 20mcg tablets. By todays standards, 5mcg is a heroic dose, you'd be tripping for a week on that stuff and I firmly believe most "acid casualties" were actually a result of this. I mean, Jim Morrison did 10,000 micrograms and then went on stage. Sure it ended up kind of a disaster and they were banned from the UFO, but that guy took more acid than probably anyone in that era. Look at any pictures of Jim in 1967, his pupils are MASSIVE in so many of them. I bet acid freakouts are what led him to start drinking more instead. He still drank before, but the sudden increase after stopping LSD (minus the hollywood bowl when Mick Jagger gave him some and during a few sessions for The Soft Parade), he never really took it. Eventually he said he didn't even smoke pot because it gave him the "cosmic heebie jeebies." Well, anyone who abuses psychedelics will find THC no longer effects them the same. It's like they start tripping again. Ask me how I know lol. Anyway, the other band members said Syd went mad on that tour and based on something 10x stronger than LSD being consumed in an immense quantity, I can't even imagine. The guy who synthesized it said 10mg was the closest thing to insanity he's ever experience. The Mandrax just made it so much worse, probably was his way of coping with the burnout from drugs and the music scene. He would've split up anyway I think, but he did ask to rejoin the band around 1969 and was met with a firm "no." I kind of wish they'd let him. He was left alone for years and nobody was really there for him. He'd go around Cambridge visiting old friends unannounced and they'd often be confused where he came from or what he was doing lingering around, but could tell he needed to be around people (some of this comes from "A Very Irregular Head.) Both books are fantastic if you want to know everything you can possibly know about Syd and how he approached music, his lyrics, and most of all his painting. He was a seriously advanced painter in art school. I'm glad to know at least that in his later years, this is what he spent the most time doing, and some of those paintings are really great.

Many have done it, John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Roger Waters... but ive never heard anyone truly capture the true weird and introspective lyrics of psychedelia as much as syd barret. He captured the weirdness which pulled you into the world he painted with songs like Lucifer Sam, My Bike, and Octopus . He captured the introspectiveness and philosophical aspect of psychedelia with songs like terrapin, Baby Lemonade and Dominoes. The Happiness and darkness and otherworldliness with the 4 albums he made plus opel is second to none. He truly lived both emotion and the world he painted. From Gnomes and worlds of euphoria to cold desolate isolation and those worlds seeming to crumble both reality and fantasy. He isnt seen as a legend which he needs to be, but most importantly he is a pioneer. A legend takes the stage but a pioneer is the one who built the very stage for those to perform and stand on, nail by nail and board by board.

Brilliant to see!. Not seen this footage before but there appears to be a pattern to early Floyd promo films. i.e. "I've got a great idea for a film let's just go outside and mess about" ...

Grande Syd! Spettacolare video, strepitosa versione.

I have most definitely never seen this before. Until the lip syncing I was ready to assume it was just any old 1966-67 Pink Floyd promotional footage... but the lip syncing nails it as a definitive promotional film by The Pink Floyd.

Arnold Layne had a strange hobby Collecting clothes moonshine washing line They suit him fine On the wall hung a tall mirror Distorted view, see through baby blue He dug it Oh, Arnold Layne It's not the same, takes two to know Two to know, two to know, two to know Why can't you see? Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne Now he's caught A nasty sort of person They gave him time Doors bang, chain gang he hates it Oh, Arnold Layne It's not the same, takes two to know Two to know, two to know, two to know Why can't you see? Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne Don't do it again
