Played in a band in the east end of London at the same time as the Outfield(the baseball boys then).played on the same bill a couple of times.We knew they were a cut. above and would make it.The first time I saw them they blew me away

@@acetech9237 Both John and Tony now gone.The first time I saw Tony play he was in a covers band called Crazy Horse,Alan Jackman was the drummer.That was in 1977 .All seems a lifetime ago now.

@s b 61 seconds was their stand out song for me at the time.(different chorus from the play deep version)There 2nd song in the set was Stranger in my home town sung by John.Their vocal harmonies were so tight every song they played had a great hook and sounded like it could be a hit record.

A very talented and underrated band. True artists in every sense of the word. It's a shame guitarist, John Spinks, passed away from liver cancer. He loved his fans so much that he actually said he wished he could thank each and everyone personally. And, when recording their last album together (Replay), right before he passed away, John played, in spite of the pain from the cancer, and until he couldn't hold his guitar anymore. They don't make music and they don't make bands like this anymore !

As of 20 October 2020, The Outfield is broken up. Guitarist John Spinks passed on in 2014, six years ago. 20 Oct 2020, Tony Lewis, lead singer + bassist has gone. RIP Tony Lewis.

Uh, with 2 of the 3 members, and the 2 responsible for writing all of the music, no longer living, yeah, I'd say there's a decent chance the band is kaput... although I think Kiss will still be out there trying to con people out of money even after Paul and Gene croak, so all members of a band no longer existing isn't always the end.

Sounds like they recorded this in 89-94. How I know that? Tony's singing voice is distinct different in each album, Play Deep he sang really powerfull, Bangin', He eased down slightly overall, but he kept the intact pitch, by 89-92 he sang a bit higher in pitch but he didnt sing in the same power as in Play Deep, noticeable difference, and in 98 and onwards well voice has clearly aged but still good
