It's always been my favorite album ever! Even after i lent the CD to my ex, and when we broke up, he just kept it with him and never brought it back to me... Though he knew i LOVED that album... Oh how i hate that bastard... 😑 Anyway, 'Play Deep' is, in my opinion, not only the best album of The Outfield very closely followed by 'Bangin'', but the best and most consistent album ever done by any band.

My uncle used to like this band and told me the lead singer died back in 2020 and the lead guitarist died in 2015 or around then of liver cancer. It's too bad on both parts....also that my gen just doesn't have any decent pop rock bands today.

Story time, first off I remember these guys as being VERY easy to work with. I was in a band in the 80s called Empire. We were asked to open for the Outfield at a venue called "The Button South" in the Miami area, Hallendale as I recall. Through a major mix up the Outfield's stage gear had accidentally been loaded in a container and already sitting on a ship as it was the end of their current US tour. Our drummer played Pearl brand drums and as their drummer was a Pearl endorsee and asked if the Outfield could use our stage gear for their show, of course we gave them access to everything we had. Luckily they travel WITH their guitars so they used our amps and drums. Their drummer totally reheaded our guys kit along with some new cymbals...We made it happen, our set went off well and their's killed! What makes it so memorable is the drummer just let our guy keep everything they bought for the kit. We opened for many big acts of the day in those years and while some were nice and some not so nice, the Outfiled stood out 🙂

@yakboy2u2 Haha! Off topic, but your great comment reminded me of the time a band I was in opened for Native American poet John Trudell's spoken-word group in Menominee WI during a Thanksgiving blizzard. Their gear never made it to the venue, so they asked if they could use my kit sight unseen, which was a Purecussion "Rims" Headset. Their poor drummer was kind of freaked out when he saw it lol but it worked out ok; they actually sound pretty good when mic'ed up. But I remember the look on his face at first introduction to his loaner set! 🤣🤣🤣 ps: there's a cool video of Neil Peart using a Rims set as his dressing room warm up kit: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWazdYl7pr6al68 That made me proud --- I still have 2 of them!

I used to make Mix Tapes for my guy friends to impress "their ladies". Many times I would have to sit them down and go over what I was doing for them, so they could tell who they were giving the tape to "how they felt". To borrow the phrase 60% of the time, it worked for them.. every time! Did it work for me? Of course not! Oh yeah, back in the day, many small town Alberta girls LOVED "No Surrender" !

The fact that he keeps the tone and the key switching from "Ah" to the "Oooh" in the ending "I dont wanna looooooooose..." shit is kinda amazing! Most people have to drop down one or the other to keep the tone even from a hard "Ahhhh" to "Oooooh", just based on the physical shape the mouth makes on those sounds. But he holds that tone on the hard change. If I'd have written the song for me to sing, the lyrics would have been "I don't wanna WASTE your love...", because that would be a less risky vowel sound to hold onto! 💯

I don't know if this woman knows these lovely men have since died. Heart breaking. Amazingly enough, I am from England and only got to hear about them when my 3 year old grandson came around two years ago and started singing your love. His dad is a singer song writer and he takes after him. I then wanted to see who the band was, as he used to listen to them regularly and even in nursery the teacher had him sing your love to the rest of the class. When I found the group and got them up on the telly, I fell in love with them. I really loved John Spinks. He had a rather large nose and it suited him. Later he had surgery to make it a little smaller and remove the bump, but I loved him just the way he was. When I found out some time afterwards that he and other members of the band had died, I was so upset and nearly crying. Stupid I know. I have been listening to them this evening with my family. I never get tired of listening to your love. So sad I can never see them in person now. Really hits the heart strings. Strangely enough, the cause of John Lewis's death has never been disclosed. I have heard the odd rumour, but would really like to know the true cause of his death. I know he was very low after losing his band members and the joy went out of his touring without them.

You happiness is SO contagious!!! When the song started: wait... I know this... don't I??? When the vocals started: YES!!!! Of course I know this song!!!! I've known of, and been impressed by, this song for... 30 years? 40 years? ...a long flippin' time!! But if you'd have asked me its name, or who sang it... no clue!!!

Have never watched any of your videos before - but I thoroughly enjoyed learning so much, but even more so watching your obvious joy of listening to music. Thanks so much for this :)

@@BethRoars wait now we're stuck in the "thank you" loop 😂 Seriously tho, it's my pleasure. Seeing someone else be so enthusiastic helps me feel like less of a crazy person for being so enthusiastic about music :)

as an amateur karaoke singer hobbyist, I've always wanted to sing this song but, yeah his ability to sing so high so relaxed is so hard to replicate, great break down! also surprised you haven't heard this, can only think you're young? enjoyed it
