I've always loved the Found Family trope, since it shows that you don't have to be related by blood to consider yourselves family. It's gently implied at the beginning that Adam and Barbara can't conceive, and while Charles and Delia do love Lydia, they're more self absorbed. Ultimately, the two families compromise by sharing the house, with Lydia have two sets of parents, one ghostly, and one living.

19:20 In the musical version Beetlejuice kisses both Adam and Barbara, but then continuously hits on Adam for the rest of the show, always flirting, grabbing him and calling him "sexy" Anyways, I strongly suggest listening to Beetlejuice the musical and/or watching the bootlegs. It fixes a couple minor plot holes of the movie, but also stands on it's own as they change quite a few things. Obviuosly, they can't show much of the Netherworld on stage, so they put more energy into giving characters proper depth and emotional connections. Also a big thing for me was the fact that Beetleman himself is more prominent throughout the whole show and has a full character arc. And..I mean...the songs fucking slap and Alex Brightman (and the whole cast for that matter) is a delight to listen to/watch.

This reaction to Beetlejuice is awesome and that goes without saying, but THESE FITS yall have on WILL BE LEGENDARY! 😂 LORE: Now I could be wrong because the Movie, Cartoon Show, and Brodway Musical (Which if you haven't listened to the original production soundtrack is a MUST! I mean, the first song is called Dead Mom!) occupy their own cannons, but generally Beetlejuice (Spelled Beetlegeuse cause he "can't spell") is a demon that can't interact with the living world unless he's summoned so him holding up in the model was not so much as a prison as it was for his convenience basically a playground while he tempted everyonewaiting to be summoned. Once summoned his goal then was to become living and wreak havoc on the mortal plane which he could only do via unholy matrimony kinda a weird spoof on possession just cutting out the need to take over someones body. Fun fact, Lydia is able to float in the final dance number because in the original ending she's dead. Hope that helps a bit. 🤗

Did you know that there's a Beetlejuice children's cartoon? I LOVED the show as a kid, but I didn't watch the movie until I was an adult. There are some interesting (and necessary if kids are your main audience) changes to the source material. Beetlejuice is less [word you can't say on KZbin]-ey for one. And what he lacks in lasciviousness, he makes up in puns and Dad jokes. So. Many. Dad jokes. The Maitlands are absent, but we spend more time in the netherworld. Also Lydia and Beetlejuice are partners in crime and not adversaries. I was so used to Lydia and Beetlejuice being bffs, it was weird as hell seeing Beetlejuice as the antagonist.

I loved this movie as a kid. I also loved the animated series Beetlejuice which is very different from the film in that Betelgeuse is obviously more family friendly and best friends with Lydia. Also they visit the Neitherworld so the lore is different from the film because they don't call it the afterlife and it's definitely not set up like a bureaucracy because it is a supernatural realm but not the afterlife. Basically all that is kept is Betelgeuse (toned down), Lydia, Charles, Delia; and Lydia having to say Betelgeuse's name three times to summon him or go to the Neitherworld. But I also think Betelgeuse could just appear to her whenever he wanted so he wasn't exactly stuck anywhere.

Catherine O’Hara is truly an icon in every role she’s ever had (as is Winona Ryder). I quote “if you don’t let me gut out this house I will go insane and TAKE YOU WITH ME!” often. And yeah-the actor who plays the dad is a horrible person-which is why the sequel will open on his character’s death (good riddance).

Scarlett O'Hara is not an actress. She's a fictional character from the novel and movie 'Gone with the Wind' lol

0:41 I was waiting for this because this epic fit wasn't addressed (hehe) on Patreon 🤣 I remember seeing glimpses of this movie as a kid but never in full, my god... this is not for kids. Also, I realized I recognize Geena Davis from Grey's Anatomy, she was so mean in her role LOL nice to see her in something different 13:12 is this lemonade? 😏 15:57 this reminds me of Benji's plan for Abigail LOL I trust him 20:09 watching old "comedies" and seeing how many directors/writers thought sexual harassment/assault was haha funny... ick Cute ending to the movie for the daughter with shitty parents to keep the loving but deceased couple who always wanted a child. F*CK BEETLEJUICE! Thanks for the reaction 💕

I'm so glad you guys did this one, this was so fun! Rizzo's outfit was AMAZING. If one or both of you haven't seen it, would be a genuine treat to see your commentary for Coraline. On of my favourites and so creepy/fun. Thanks again for another banger!

And I always thought Lidia could see the ghosts because, since her mother died, she was perpetually in mourning. And having contact with death and melancholy made her closer to the ghosts.

Universal Studios did have a Beetlejuice house a few years back. It was amazing and fun. Based on the story of the first film. You can see walkthroughs of it on KZbin. It's when masks were still a thing at parks.

Fun fact: Betelgeuse is over 700 years old and Lydia is 15 years old in the 1st movie and tbh it’s fucking sick that he’s in love with Lydia.

The but with Otto being terrified of the suit wasn’t because of the color, but because Otto is the type of person that’s very much into expensive stuff and BetelGeuse put him on a cheap suit😅
