The Brera district in Milan has always been the artistic epicentre of the city: artists, Academy students and art lovers have alternated their steps with those of the greats of the past along those streets.
It was with the same spirit of curiosity and desire that Pino Pinelli (Catania, 1938) first came to Brera as a boy, having just arrived in Milan driven by his love of art.
Pino Pinelli tells his story, retracing his artistic career spent in the historic studio at Via Brera 23, where he hosted not only colleagues - among them, Mario Nigro (1917-1992) was his neighbour - but also famous critics: Filiberto Menna, Tommaso Trini, Marco Meneguzzo and many others.
It was within those walls that he realised the famous 'rupture of the painting', went beyond monochrome and began to disseminate flakes of pure colour in the space of the wall. There began the path that would lead Pinelli to be known as one of the most important voices in Italian painting, far beyond the boundaries of Analytical Painting.
This is why Brera is so important for every generation of artists, 'because my dream was to have my studio in Brera'.
