38:39 Playing pool was pretty much the same as gambling back in the 40s when this movie was made. You could only play it at bars which wasn't a place for kids and most Americans considered it a game for delinquents so it made sense why it was in the original movie. Of course it's out of place in the remake because we don't view pool the same way we did back then. In fact the whole Pleasure Island sequence is just wrong in the remake because it's modelled so much like Disneyland that one could think that the movie tells the audience that kids visiting Disneyland is bad.

So they accidentally ratted themselves out by stating carnivals are dens of delinquents and truants. Truly self-aware of their own morals.

You brought up very good points why this movie fails. Pinocchio in this movie isn’t a bad kid at all. He just goes through the motions and what’s even more messed up and dark is that he gets punished for doing the right thing like going to school and not participating with the other kids on Pleasure Island. It’s like the filmmakers didn’t want the protagonist to do bad things while forgetting that Pinocchio is supposed to do bad things. I do like the inclusion of Geppetto finding out Pinocchio was at Pleasure Island which explains why he went out to sea to look for him instead of him just being randomly out at sea in the original.

They can’t make a movie about morals when Disney does not have morals. It’s like me making a movie about geology. No matter how much money you give me to make the movie it’ll be horrible because I have no interest or knowledge about geology

Just watch Teacher's Pet. Somehow that one works. Also, I can't believe they used a gag from Shrek 2 sincerely in this movie. Also, as a rowdy girl when I was a kid (though my mischief involved breaking pencils and chucking erasers) they executed the girls being taken to the island *VERY* badly. It's, like, an extra layer of creepy.

Yeah, my mom says Teacher's Pet is stupid, but it's nowhere near as stupid as this movie, and at least it actually teaches good lessons. I like to think she just can't get past the Gary Baseman-esque character designs.

Honestly, as an Italian, watching this movie I felt disrespected, outraged and cursed at. It seems like the kinda movie that someone that hates Italy would make. The original seemed like a love letter to Italy and it is still hailed as national treasure (kinda). Also, I know quite a bit about Pinocchio and how Italian culture influenced it (like how Mangiafuoco in the 40's adaptation is at most a caricature of southern Italians, as to why they changed him is beyond me) so feel free to ask

Jiminy in the original; Gives good advices to Pinocchio, is his friend and always there for him. Jiminy in the remake: Say horrible jokes and gives awful advices. He was a charming character with a big heart and here the cricket is really annoying and unfunny. Thank's for ruining him Disney 🙄

Best analysis of why this pointless remake of Pinocchio (although 22:03, those puppets actually were French, not Latina), which I consider my all favorite classic Disney/animated movie of all time (to me, the original Pinocchio is absolutely perfect), fails miserably and a microcosm of everything wrong with modern Disney and their remakes. Even though I do appreciate the idea of including some other things, like Pinocchio spending time with Geppetto a few days before he goes to school, Geppetto having a backstory and him finding out about Pleasure Island (which could have worked if it were the Blue Fairy as the dove delivering it) the whole thing about peer pressure, but the execution was just sloppy and completely mess with the themes of the film. Even the remake's ending also seemed they were trying to also use an alternate ending that Disney considered originally using for the original movie, but they also managed to screw that idea up as well here, and Jiminy doesn't even get that badge! Fabiana and Sabina sounds more like they would have been in a _Pinocchio II_ if Disney had made a sequel during the 2000s, which probably also would have been just as awful. James 2:26 applies perfectly as well. 👍

The scene where Pinocchio lies so that Jiminy can grab the key actually reminds me of the jailbreak scene from Shrek 2. There, Pinocchio gets tangled in his strings so Gingy uses his ever-extending nose to reach the locks.

They casted a black actress to play the blue fairy ( for the sake of representation ) ,cuted down her screen time significantly ... In the original film she had more screen time as well as purpose 😂😂😂 ... The whole " Stromboli got to prison " bit asides from being completely unnecessary dulls down a detail that actually makes the Disney version darker than the original tale. Near the end of Collodi's story human Pinocchio comes upon a deaf cat and blind fox , they're punished for scamming people by pretending to be disabled and actually become what they pretended to be ( the cat went deaf and the fox blind. ) Collodi's story ends with " Punishment and Reward shall befall you according to your actions,a path of dishonesty and trickery leads to misery whilst the path of hard work and honesty rewards you in due time ", Disney's 1940 Version by contrast has NON of the Villains getting punished subconsciously communicating to the audience ( especially little children ) that they're still out there ... Waiting for you in the darkest corner of the street,so be very careful unless you end up like the children on Pleasure Island

14:09 Wow, I recognised it! That's Piazza dei Martiri in Naples. I use to go there rather often. It felt so familiar at first glance... (Yes I'm Italian). 20:35 Maybe someone has already told you this, but the lady in this scene is speaking Italian and says "Geppetto! Come stai?" which means "Geppetto! How are you?" Anyway, just another poorly conceived, poorly executed and poorly presented Disney live-action remake. As an Italian, I can assure you that all those 2022 Pinocchio movies were largely discussed here (wether in the good or in the bad). The least known one was "Pinocchio A True Story", which was talked about only by those who were already into the fruity Pinocchio meme and foreign animation in general.
