This is my Pinocchio (2022) Movie Review. What is your Pinocchio Review or Beast Movie Reaction. Explain your thoughts on this Disney Plus film below.
Academy Award winner Robert Zemeckis directs this live action and CGI retelling of the beloved tale of a wooden puppet who embarks on a thrilling adventure to become a real boy. Tom Hanks stars as Geppetto, the woodcarver who builds and treats Pinocchio (Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) as if he were his real son. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Jiminy Cricket, who serves as Pinocchio’s guide as well as his "conscience"; Academy Award nominee Cynthia Erivo is the Blue Fairy; Keegan-Michael Key is "Honest" John; Academy Award nominee Lorraine Bracco is Sofia the Seagull, a new character, and Luke Evans is The Coachman.

Last year a Italian version came out which is the closest, to the original. Although many American parents hated the movie after taking their kids to see a dub version in theaters, not realizing that it WAS the original version and not the Disney one, and how dark it got, like lot of the source material the classic Disney films.

@@YaraMay20 of course I've seen the animation. What I'm saying is the scene where the talking donkey is with the other talking donkeys and is crying that he wants to go home to his mama. I felt the pacing of the film was a bit rushed. I'm noticing a trend in a lot of Roberts zemekis newer films. Like even with the witches. A lot of the little seemingly nuanced stuff is rushed through. That's the stuff that really has to meat on it.

Here’s My Shocked Face 😐 I don’t understand why people were excited for this Disney Remake. Most people hated The Lion King Remake for being a shot for shot remake, but yet the trailer to this movie was shot for shot. So what did people expect? So many people keep saying all these terrible things about the Disney Remakes yet they still keep paying to go see them. I don’t understand that sense of logic and I’m not falling into their trap. I didn’t even pay to see The Lion King Remake in theaters because I knew it would be a soulless shot for shot remake. I watched it for free online and I’m glad I didn’t pay any money to see it, same with Mulan Remake. I paid to see Avengers Endgame and Godzilla King Of The Monsters in theaters instead and those movies were much better. The Lion King Remake and Mulan Remake sucked. I’m done with these remakes of classic animated movies unless I decide to review it, but I’ll probably watch it free online.

The puppet show sequence was so faithful to the Disney original and was incredibly well executed. Gepetto's workshop and the cuckoo clocks were fantastic with many nods to Disney's history. Pleasure Island was another visual feast. Even with all this going for it, the movie managed to be a disappointment with a sloppy mess of an ending. Also the script was all over the place with lots of ill-advised humor. But I would watch it again for the good stuff that was so good.

Everything I hated about the Pinocchio live action remake: 1. Pinocchio has the soul of Geppetto’s dead son. This makes Geppetto look even worse than in the animated movie. In the original I can forgive him his mistakes because I know he’s new at being a father and therefore doesn’t know yet how to be perfect at it but if he had a son before like in this remake, he should know that you have to take your child to school yourself! Also, this change makes Pinocchio look like a replacement which I hate. In the original he made him because he wished for a child so badly because he was lonely and never had one. In this version he basically wishes for a replacement son! Thanks, I hate it! 2. Geppetto still doesn’t take Pinocchio to school himself! Why don’t they finally fix that? This is one of the few things of the animated version that actually should be fixed! So why don’t they finally fix that? They should learn from the 2019 Italian version! 3. Pinocchio goes to school and is kicked out because he is a puppet. What????? Why?????? He should ditch school and go to the theater instead because he should be naughty at the beginning and make mistakes because this is a story about redemption!!!! Seriously, this destroys the entire moral of the story if he is completely innocent at the beginning! In this version it’s completely justified that he goes to the theater instead of taking the easy road to success! The entire moral of the story that you shouldn’t misbehave and should go to school instead of taking the easy road is lost! Thanks, I hate it!!!!! 4. He only reluctantly agrees to go to the theater, very reluctantly. Come on! He should be enthusiastic about being an actor and about taking the easy road to success! Here, he only agrees to be an actor because he had no other choice! The teacher even said puppets belong in the puppet show! So, he really had no other choice than to go there instead of going there to take the easy road to success like in the original! Ugh!!!! Thanks, I hate it!!!!!! 5. The ballerina in the theater seems like his love interest! Thanks, I hate it!!!!!! He is far too young to have a girlfriend and Pinocchio is a story about the love between father and son not romantic love!!!! And it should stay that way! This love interest only distracts from that and adds nothing to the story! It’s completely unnecessary!!! 6. He escapes the cage by lying! That’s a very bad moral! In the original he learns that lying is bad and that it doesn’t help him! Here, they make it seem like lying helps you out! How can you convey such a bad moral???? 7. He is captured to got to Pleasure Island and he only very reluctantly agrees to go with them! Once again, the entire moral of the story is lost!!!! He should at least agree to go with them himself and not say that he doesn’t wanna go there on the coach! like that he seems even more innocent! The whole moral is lost! He should change from a bad boy to a good boy!!! That’s the entire point of the story! Here, the development is nonexistent! 8. On the Island he disagrees with everything the children do wrong, and he refuses to misbehave! Like that he really doesn’t deserve to be turned into a donkey! And once again the entire moral of the story about misbehaving is lost because he doesn’t even misbehave! He is perfect at the beginning and perfect at the end! There is no development! Thanks, I hate it!!!! 9. Stromboli is sent to prison and the ballerina takes over the theater. But I don’t understand for what Stromboli is send to prison because he didn’t really commit a crime! It’s not illegal to imprison a puppet so for what did they put him in prison? 10. He loses the ears and tail when he decides not to go the theater again but to search his father. Seriously? That’s all it takes to break the curse? In the original he breaks the curse by sacrificing his life for his father! Here, he breaks it by deciding to do something that he should do anyway and which he was already doing! Thanks, I hate it! 11. They find Geppetto before he is swallowed by the whale and he and Pinocchio are swallowed at the same time. Like that the reunion scene is not as emotional as in the animated movie or the book! Especially since they were only separated for a day not over a year like in the book or at least a few weeks as in the animated movie (because spider webs can’t grow overnight, he had to have been away for at least a few weeks). Like that the touching reunion scene is missing which is my favorite scene in most versions! (It’s especially touching in the 2019 version) Everything that is tragic is taken away especially if Geppetto was only in the whale for two minutes instead of over a year or at least weeks! Thanks, I hate it! 12. The story takes place on only two days! That’s too much story for such a short time! And besides they have no idea what’s the difference between narrated time and reading time! 13. And now the worst part: the ending! They messed up absolutely everything! Pinocchio doesn’t sacrifice himself for his father and doesn’t prove himself doing so! Instead Geppetto is the one who dies and is brought back without a proper explanation just by Pinocchio’s magical tears! Ok, first off, that’s stolen from tangled! And secondly, Pinocchio should die by sacrificing his life for his father to prove himself, become a real boy and break the curse! There is absolutely no reason for Geppetto to die and especially not to be brought back completely without a proper explanation!!! In the original the revival is justified because Pinocchio is transformed into a real boy because he sacrificed himself! Here, there is no real explanation how Geppetto was even brought back except through the tears which are now magical without an explanation! They messed up everything about the ending!!!! Everything!!!! You can’t even say it’s from the book, there it was completely different: In the book, Geppetto was only very ill, he never died, and Pinocchio has to go working to help him! Here, Pinocchio does nothing for his father! He doesn’t even save him from the whale because Geppetto dies, and Pinocchio doesn’t sacrifice himself! Ugh, this should be the great moment: this is where he changes and puts someone else’s needs before his for the first time after all he did! Here, this great moment is completely missing!!!!! This ruins the entire story! There is absolutely no development from a bad boy to a good one! Thanks, I hate it!!!! 14. And he doesn’t even turn into a real boy at the end!!! Are you kidding me?????? That’s what the entire story of Pinocchio is about! It’s about a puppet who transforms in to a real boy because of his love for his father!!! How can you miss that??? How can you change something important as that??? At first I thought I could forgive some mistakes but not with that ending!!! After that ending I knew I hated that movie!!! It’s the worst live action remake ever!!! Thanks, I hate it!!! Edit: A couple more Things I hated that I forgot to add: 15. I also hated that They Cut the Song little wooden head because it's such a cute Song that Shows how much Geppetto loves Pinocchio and how much He wishes to have a son. The New Songs aren't good in my opinion and don't Show the Love of a father that well. 16. I also hated that The Scene where Pinocchio Burns His Finger was so short and was almost completely Cut. Because this Scene is actually symbolic: At First in the Story Geppetto saves Pinocchio by stopping the fire and later their roles are reversed because later Pinocchio saves Geppetto from drowning at the end. The book equivalent of this Scene is the Scene where Pinocchio Burns His feet Off and Geppetto Takes Care of him and makes him New feet. Then at the end of the book their roles are reversed and then Pinocchio Takes Care of His father. Disney changed the Part of taking Care of each other to saving each other's lives. So the Scene where He Burns His Finger is actually a pretty important Scene that is symbolic and it shouldn't have been Cut down so much. But then again the Remake also completely ruined the ending so the role reversal is completely non existent. Another reason to hate this Remake. It ruined absolutely everything!!!

I don't entirely believe Pinocchio has the soul of Geppetto's late son. The light from the star reflecting off the picture to the puppet most likely just meant it was a tribute to his son and not necessarily meaning that Pinocchio has essentially the soul of his late son. Pinocchio was initially tempted by Honest John to become an actor but got talked out of it by Jiminy when he sided with John. Then after he got kicked out and was told he was better off in a puppet show, he questioned whether or not he really belongs in a school. Then when John and Gideon tempt him again he sides with them as he got rejected for being what he wanted to be. Getting kicked out of school for not being a real boy was part of the film's overall message in regards to "being real". The movie plays it out for the most part that being real means being full flesh and blood, but the message is really that just because one isn't real doesn't mean that they don't have a heart and are unwise. In a nutshell the message is "It's not what matters on your outside, what's on your inside is what matters most". That's a message we can relate to in today's society in which people have been rejected because of their outside, not their inside. I don't think the intent was for lying to teach a bad morale that it can get you what you want. Pinocchio lies to get himself out of trouble which causes his nose to grow very long and Jiminy to tell him to "quit telling those whoppers!" Then when he sees the key he tells a white lie. After Jiminy gets the key he apologizes (which he should have done instead of lying to Jiminy. Maybe if he told the truth the Blue Fairy would have appeared to free him from the cage) and his nose shrinks back down. Pinocchio DOES become a real boy at the end. If you look carefully as Jiminy is narrating, he does become real -- his legs, arms, hair and face become human.

Upon first viewing, the first half from the beginning to when Stromboli takes Pinocchio on the wagon felt jarring and I'd give that part a C+, but after that the movie started getting better (loved Luke Evans' song) though had a few things I didn't like, and after Pinocchio and Jiminy escaped Pleasure Island to the end I had no issues whatsoever so at the end I pretty much forgot about the things I disliked/felt jarring. Definitely not the best live action Disney remake and not entirely as good nor better than the original, but I'd still watch it again. Edit: in regards to the ending, if you carefully as Jiminy is narrating, Pinocchio's hair and face become human and his legs become human.

This is Disney's Kidz Bop version of Pinocchio made by the Crayola company. I like Cynthia Erivo, and love Tom Hanks, but every performance seemed so phoned in. Trying to find some redemption for this movie other than a few pretty visuals. I liked the character of Fabiana but way to surface level ....sure there are other ways to make a boy, but I don't thing Geppetto gets out much -JC 1/5

This film is kind of a “thank you” to the animated classic much like Peter Jackson's King Kong. It does manage to provide the story with different layers that weren’t included in the animated film but still manages to sprinkle many nods to the original and a few Easter Eggs if you’re lucky to spot them. Tom Hanks is delightfully charming as Geppetto, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth is lovable as Pinocchio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is enduring as Jiminy Cricket, Cynthia Erivo is magical as the Blue Fairy, Keegan-Michael Key plays Honest John with Shakespearean flair, Lorraine Bracco as Sophia the Seagull is a cute little addition and Luke Evans is deliciously diabolical as the wicked coachman. It manages to include some of the iconic song from the animated film including the Oscar winning When You Wish Upon A Star sung by Cynthia Erivo. Odd, because from my viewpoint this movie is a nothing short of a "Fuck You!" to the original. All these remakes are essentially massive middle fingers to Disney's animated classics. Disney doesn't need more of this tripe, it needs a swift dose of chemotherapy to root out the cancerous yes-men that approve this piss.

It’s not like Mulan, is it? Where you have to pay money on top of the Disney+ subscription to watch it? I’ll give it a look. I’m not expecting much. OG Pinoke is one of my favorite films of all time. I love it for its dark sense of humor and the overall vibe of “man this is weird as hell”, even the characters all seem to know what a surreal and bizarre story they’re living through. So if they maintain that tone, there may be something decent about it. We’ll see.

I think the film had its good points and it's mediocre points. But I wouldn't say anything bad. Spoiler alert. I thought him not transforming into a boy at the end was a bit strange. Doesn't that kind of throw the whole balance of the narrative off? However I did enjoy a lot of the nuances that were portrayed. I enjoyed how they portrayed pleasure island. How they showed how Pinocchio was actually repelled by what he saw. The way they interpreted Stromboli was very well done. I enjoyed how they did honest John as well. My only gripe was it felt a bit rushed. And what's with all the cameos of Disney movies in the form of wooden clocks?! In any case not a masterpiece but not bad. Overall charming

I reckon they wanted a 'woke' message thrown in at the end, that Pinocchio could be happy wih himself the way he was, and that he was a real boy if he only accpted himself and thought he was. But, yes, it does make nonsense of the point of the original story, that Pinocchio becomes a real boy as a reward for displaying virtue. Why would he want to forever remain a puppet, unable to grow up and find a girfriend, or start a family, or whatever?|

I just watched the movie I think it was ok Tom Hanks is amazing I love his acting he's honestly the only reason I watched this I didn't really like the appearance of the blue fairy she didn't act like her at all and only made 1 appearance in the original the blue fairy seemed very wise and motherly but in this one she didn't seem like that at all :( it seemed like the actress was trying to act like the genie from the Aladin remake which didn't suit the role of this movie :( and I didn't like the appearance of monstro I was looking forward to the CGI of the darkness of the huge whale and Pinocchio going underwater to find him but monstro swallowed Pinocchio and his father together it wasn't like the original I was disappointed 😞 and Pinocchio didn't die in the end his father did which didn't make any sense and most importantly Pinocchio didn't turn into a real boy the ending seemed more about self acceptance which is a good message but Pinocchio remake is supposed to be a fairy tale so it should have ended like the original 🥲 and I thought for sure when his father hugged him he would turn into a real boy. I'd probably give this movie a 6.7/10 only because of the lacking of the content in the original and taking stuff away a good remake can add but not take away or compromise if the details are small the things they changed were to big to change.

While this movie, like the live action remakes Disney has a iffy/weak history with, I thought that the movie was ok for me, most of the stuff in this was faithful to the original ( in my opinion) Tom Hanks, Levin, Antison, Ervo, Michael Key, and the others actors knocked it out of the park for me, while it's basically a retelling like the others, I liked it Things I loved: Tom Hanks Gepetto, Cynthia Ervo's rendition of When you wish upon a star was good, Levitt's Jimminy, the other characters are good too, Pinocchio's design Things I didn't like about it (opinion): The ending, after Pinoke rescued Gepetto from Monster, he didn't really turn into a real boy, I also grew up with the original too, the cgi in the movie could've been better, some of the cgi looks a bit off in my taste. It kinda lacked the charm of the original While I don't really mind Disney's live action remakes of classics, some of them weren't all that great, I still had a good time watching, while the original is the best story made by Disney, I'll give the remakes a chance, if you don't agree with me, that's ok

Guess the most special addition was to diversity, unless someone can add something else that was different apart from what was missing. Not that it is wrong or anything, just so obvious when clearly so much effort was done to make everything else look like the original. If u not gonna do the original justice then just take the baseline of the story and go yolo. Hansel and Gretel was very entertaining, they were inspired by the original and came up with something original instead of trying to make everything exactly like the original except for a few "corrections". They make these remakes, but miss the thing that made it great in the first place. This story was dark, sad, but a journey of growth. That was the experience watching it as a kid, i felt troubled by how he was being manipulated by those he wanted to be friends with. Why there was that voice of reason in the back of your mind. How friends are those that want the best outcome for u. That world owes u no understanding and if u want something u go out there and create your own luck. World is unfair, the sooner u accept it instead of fighting the impossible the sooner u can adapt and overcome. Hardly even remember what they all looked like in the story but that wasnt the important part..... ITS THE STORY.... Now they are so pc and socially acceptabl, anything dark and real will upset those that just cant handle it.

There's another 'woke' touch, that Pinocchio doesn't become a real boy at the end, but is somehow no different to a real boy because he's told he's a real boy and accepts himself as he is, and thinks he's one. The way that people with gender dysphoria, according to 'progressives', are 'real members' of the opposite sex just because they think they are. The 'accept yourself as you ar,e and you are what you think you are if you think you are' message isn't just anachronistic to the source, but makes a nonsense of Pinocchio becoming a real boy as a reward for virtue. Here. there's no real payoff to the journey he goes through.

I had mixed feelings about this film. The cast gave it their all (Keegan-Michael Key, in particular, is entertaining as Honest John), the visuals captured the look of the original animated film, and the music by Alan Silvestri was great. However, the script really faltered. It tried to hit the same notes as the original film, but without tying everything together. Also, scenes, like where Pinocchio reunites with Gepetto, don’t have the impact they should have, especially since we don’t see them interact enough to believe in their relationship or see Pinocchio do anything wrong that would justify him needing to be forgiven by Gepetto. Finally, a few jokes do get stretched out longer than necessary. Overall, I thought it was a “meh” movie. It wasn’t bad, but definitely only worth one watch, if that.

Honestly all things considered I thought they did a great job sure there were some new characters, additional scenes which were refreshing. Certain characters got a chance to shine which didn’t surprise me given the time we’re living in. My only nic pic is Pinocchio was written way to innocent. But we got to actually see him attempt to go to school, Stromboli get arrested. How the coach man got kidnapped the kids. Sure it didn’t have kids smoking etc which didn’t surprise me again I’m not sure how they could’ve improved the transformation but it was just as terrifying as the OG. My an rating live action wise considering the failing competition it’s up there with beauty and the beast. Let’s face it not many remakes outside of maybe crulla was that good.

I just saw The Disney Remake of Pinnochio, it FUCKING SUCKS. There are a few good scenes that I really liked. I kind of like Sabina Pinnochio's puppet love interest, but I don't like her puppeteer Fabiana. I found Jiminy Cricket to be annoying his back and forth banter with his past self at the start of the movie before he met Pinnochio was annoying. I really love The original Jiminy Cricket. Tom Hanks as Geppetto was pretty good. Honest John and Gidieon were ok Stromboli was terrible. The CoachMan was terrible because the moment Pinnochio escaped from Stromboli The CoachMan comes out of nowhere and scoops Pinnochio up in a net. On top of that they kept on hamfisting how evil The CoachMan was by having sing songs all the time trying to get Pinnochio to be bad. Lampwick was terrible he and Pinnochio hardly do anything bad. All Lampwick and Pinnochio do is ride around in a boat. The only bad thing Lampwick does is shoot a clock with his slingshot I kind of like The CoachMan's smoke monsters and the part where he tries to catch Pinnochio runs away. I really fucking hate the part where Pinnochio and Jiminy Cricket use a seagull to water-ski to find Geppetto. Them crossing the bottom of the ocean to find Geppetto in the original was way better MONSTRO was pretty cool He was part Whale part Squid. The ABSOLUTE WORST THING about The Disney Remake of Pinnochio was The Jada Pinkett Smith THANK GOD she was only one scene. Her presence alone makes the movie COMPLETELY WOKE and she gave way to much exposition The thing I REALLY ❤️❤️❤️❤️ were Geppetto's clocks I LOVE seeing Woody riding BullsEye I LOVE seeing Dumbo I LOVE Maleficient and The Evil Queen from Snow White as The Old Hag giving Snow White The Iconic Poison Apple.

I hated this adaptation with passion! Like 95 percent of it. Let’s start with the parts that were not horrible to me which is basically just the first part with Honest John… Pinocchio looked awful but I actually thought that the voice acting was solid. Cricket was solid. The two kid actors(Lampwick and Fabiana) were decent. everything was mediocre to awful from the CGI to the scenery and especially to acting and miss casting! The CGI looked really bad. The Pleasure Island was way too big and with weird colours. Also hated how the kids only drank root beer and didn’t smoked cigars(shows you how Disney won’t go there anymore). The whole “Monstro” part was so boring! In the original Geppetto was stuck inside of him for long time, here it was underwhelming how short they were inside the whale. Also, every song or scene they added was awful and the scenery looked awful. now for the awful casting! Stromboli was way over the top! Luke Evans was horribly miscast to his role and acted like he’s a pirate! The “Fairy Godmother“ was really not authentic and horribly miscast(it’s not about race, many black actresses I know that could pull it off… not this one though!!!). But the worst thing about this movie was Tom Hanks way over the top acting! Geppetto was way more stupid than the original! Tom Hanks really need to up his range and play a villain! The guy only play boring characters in recent years! Robert Zemeckis did a bad job because I think it might be the worst Disney movie Ever(including the straight to DVD Pocahontas 2). It’s a 1.5/10 for me!
