Ambassador Babe Romualdez has a very good advice, both morally and legally. Para doon sa over-staying (TNTs) na nakapag-apply ng grant of pardon sa ICS at naghihintay ng desisyon, sila po ay pwedeng mag-extend. Yon namang mga TNTs na nabigyan na ng pardon, sila po ay considered as legal immigrants na at naghihintay ng processing ng papers at green card. Yon pong mga TNTs na hindi nag-apply ng pardon sa ICS, sila po ay considered as undocumented/illegal immigrants. Mag mabuti pong umuwi na para hindi ma-deport. Kapag ang record ay "deported", sila po ay hindi na makakabalik sa US at madadamay na rin ang future applications ng kanilang mga dependents. Napakalinaw ng pahayag ni Ambassador.

You are so funny or maybe just mis-informed! First, there is difference between an Illegal Immigrant and a Legal Immigrant. A Legal Immigrant has the legal documents issued by the U.S. Government to reside in the United States. That could be a Green Card (Permanent Resident Card). Also, a Work Permit in the form of a Work Visa issued by the U.S. Consulate and an Employment Authorization issued by USCIS. A Student Visa issued by a U.S. Consulate also allows you to travel and stay in the U.S. while attending an Accredited School in the U.S. The Work Visa and the Student Visa are temporary visas, that upon or before the expiry date you have to depart the U.S. But of course, these visas could be extended depends on the circumstances. On the other hand, an illegal immigrant is in the U.S. illegally. No country in these world will just round up a group of Illegal Aliens and be given a Legal Permanent Status. That will "never" happen!

There are ways to gain permanent residency in the U.S. Your "kbitbahay" is in possession of a tourist visa to fly to the U.S. and present herself for inspection at a U.S. Port of Entry. She passed the inspection and was given a 6 month B2(tourist) entry permit. For 6 months, your "kbitbahay" can do everything a tourist is allowed to do while in the U.S. She is allowed to travel to places and meet new friends. Also, there is "nothing" in the U.S. law that prohibits her from marrying someone she meets while she is on a tourist status in the country. If she decides to get married, the husband can then file for an "adjustment of status" for her which will led her for permanent residency. If she failed to do all that's mentioned, then she has to go home before the expiration of her 6-month tourist permit!
