Concern for me so far for UP is their consistency from 3. Shout out to Briones for being aggressive in taking 3s but aside from him UP doesn’t have a consistent 3 pt shooter so far which is impt for them to challenge LaSalle and other team’s zone defense. A lot of players have it naman pero they need more consistency. Harold, JD and Francis need to take and make more to keep the defense guessing. The 3pts shooting is the difference between a lopsided win and a close win/lose I think.

People are dead wrong about Jared Bahay. My alma mater (UP) wanted Bahay because he is good. He has already started to play better. He is not gonna shoot the lights out from 3. That is not his game. He is a true point guard who can orchestrate plays and set his guys up. He can also drive to the basket and make plays for his teammates. Bahay is gonna be fine.

I'm from UP and I'd love to see Bahay succeed (vs every school but not vs UP lol), he looks like he's a humble and coachable kid with a good head on his shoulders. I think most UP fans are fine with him leaving (we are UP after all--we take our losses and move on) and if he thinks Ateneo will give him the best basketball opportunity, I wish him well. Maaga siya niligawan ng UP, tapos sumubok pa din ang Ateneo when they saw the chance, most likely both schools really saw potential in him.

At the end of the day these are kids, and they are allowed to make that choice for their future. UP knows that and honors that. They are not our property. Tao sila. As long as hindi pa enrolled, fair game pa. For UP: wag kasi tayo mag-interview at mag-release ng video ng commitment kapag di pa enrolled 😆 we are dealing with kids after all, mabilis magbago isip niyan due to a lot of factors, including their inexperience.

Agree, Bahay is playing way beyond his age. PGs under Tab typically struggle. It doesn't seem to be the case with Bahay

UST fan here. I agree with all 3 of your takes on the Tigers. Yes they've been inconsistent, but yes they've also play not nearly enough games. But I truly believe that if they get everything together, they can beat any team. Although they lost to UP and DLSU, they showed that they can compete with the 2 best teams in the league. The games were close af for most the time. This seasons gonna be WILD

I just want to add that the injury situation of Micheal Phillips should be a concerning issue for La Salle. If he cannot play in season 87, that frontline is diminished.

I personally think Matt Erolon will be one of the two main PG of AdU, other one is Montebon. Eli Ramos improved his handles but still cant shoot..even freethrows!. Carl Alexander is still too raw imo.

I think all the hate Jared Bahay has been getting is because of the hype around him and his recruitment (and the alleged price attached to it). But I’m not really worried about Bahay. Instead of panicking about Bahay, fans should really worry more about the frontcourt, especially the center position. Even the little we’ve seen of Balogun this preseason is.. worrying. Di lumalabas laro niya from CEU. I know you guys said na hindi naman super out-rebounded Ateneo rn, but a competent big center would be really helpful sa scoring (putbacks, tip-ins, nakaw plays sa ilalim). For DLSU, I’m very curious about Ramiro’s performance against a talented backcourt like UP. Galing din maghanap ng DLSU ng one-and-done PG hahaha, I’m impressed nakahanap sila ng someone na mukang maayos in the nick of time. I think after the departure of Nelle and Nonoy, they were counting on the services of David and Mur Alao for playmaking (in addition to KQ), but the Alao left and David got eaten alive in the UP game (so baka nabawasan kumpyansa nila kay David). I’m very impressed with FEU’s rookies Pre and Pasaol. Sana hindi ma-pressure pagdating ng UAAP season, hopefully their seniors can provide that moral support. P.S. Idk why Ateneo and now UP are getting so much hate for pulling out of a preseason competition due to academic reasons/finals season. Di naman daw totoo or sana di na lang sumali in the first place. I don’t get it. Even if hindi academic reasons, teams are free to pull out kung gusto nila for whatever reason man yun. The inclusion of these 2 UAAP teams has brought a lot of attention and audience to the league, I’m very confused bakit may suggestion na di na lang sumali 😅

Agree with all of your points. Regarding Alao, i think that was DLSU's fault for recruiting Baclaan and Cortez. Alao was set to finally play but i guess he saw that come S88, he was not going to play much again

UE fan/alum - agree with your points here kudos Once gerard wilson returns by July as per ig post that will stabilize PG position atleast JCD will not be forced to be playmaking, i think he is best when he plays off ball screen with his midrange game. plus their one and done recruit david penney should be in manila na by then another scorer they can use - hope he acclimates well here. excited to see hunter cruz dumont and year 2 devin fikes as well barring injury setbacks They have been playing more around precious as the primary scorer the last few games vs solely relying/ settling on the 3ball which should be the way going forward.

my questions for each team Adamson - where's Montebon? Ateneo - what is a Center? HAHA we seem to have a ton of 6'4-ish guys and unfortunately no one has really emerged yet. Blue Eagle Unliwings *As for JHouse. I think it's really dumb that people would call him a bust after a handful of games where he's clearly not yet in shape and hasn't had much reps with the team. I've been really high on him since seeing him play for Batang Gilas. And seeing him play now I can see that he can hang with the seniors div. He can run the offense and create shots despite the earlier mentioned. DLSU - what are they gonna do with their ~32 player pool? 🤣 *I think PG/playmaker is no longer an issue for them with KQ + Ramiro, and Poli/Abadam/etc. chipping in. FEU - can they stay patient and stay the course? NU - Is there anyone that can emerge as another (or THE) star player? UE - who's gonna help Momowei? UP - what are they gonna with their four deep stacked PG SG SF PF C FSA positions? 🤣 UST - who's gonna help their guards?

@@fredtacang3624 Smart take. DLSU are the champs with an intact lineup minus guards Nelle and Nonoy. UP lost Diouf and Cansino - bigger impact losses. All key players of DLSU have improved and their FSA player upgraded. Their PG depth now at 4, plugs the only issue they face. An "excess" player in Konov doesn't hurt either. More importantly, UP has not proven they can beat DLSU when it counts, so I don't see a Universe where UP is ranked higher than the vastly improved defending champs. It's not wise to use pre-season performances and recruitment of unproven players as a gauge of team strength in the regular season (see NBA pre-season and most of UAAP preseasons). Regardless of what happens in Filoil or Pinoyliga, DLSU is the team to beat. Them winning Filoil will just make all discussions a moot point.

I could argue that all key players of Up have improved also. We are seeing a different level of JD Cagulangan, that Abadiano was not a fluke last season, Lopez Torculas belmonte and to a certain degree Alter have all improved. Bayla could also suprise us based from what I’ve seen early. Both of these thems are team to beats. Both are championship pedigree teams that dont lack in experience. Both have been dominant this off season. Will probably boil down to the hotter team and more consistent team come playoffs during Season 87. And most importantly the healthier team. -Maui

Another issue with UP: Felicilda has been subparl this preseason. This puts more pressure on JD to play more minutes, which in turn could lead to injury risks. He may look tough but he is quite injury-prone. And we all know UP will need JD at his best to win it all this coming season.

re: Josh David, he unfortunately got injured a few weeks back (grade 1 ankle sprain) and is currently going thru rehab. before his ankle sprain, he sprained his wrist during the 3x3 season which is why only Austria, Abadam, Policarpio, and Buensalida rotated after the first day.

@@bolerosph just replied to a comment on mike hehe but as far as i know, mike suffered a concussion (as reported by filoil CSR, they also reported that the ct scan came back clear) and hasn’t been back since their opening game against UP. i’m worried his doctors haven’t cleared him but at the same time understandable given what happened to him last time after S85.

Can UP hold DLSU’s front court? Talent wise, totally yes. Height maybe difficult. DLSU’s front court is really high but the talent and skills, even Philips, below average offensive skills. I’m more concerned if they are like Angelo Kouame or Chabi Yo.

@@bolerosph Recent UAAP season champions have one common denominator, a dominant MVT-type FSA with one exception, DLSU. La Salle beat UP without a competitive FSA. With Diouf gone and DLSU adding Agunanne, don't see how UP is better, quite frankly. Like the NBA, UAAP preseason hardly matters when it comes to ranking particularly when the champions are parading an almost intact line-up with their key players showing marked improvements in their game. UP may be 32-man deep but the game is played on court by 5 players at a time and in that battle, UP has actually gone weaker because their two best players, Cansino and Diouf, are gone. Just saying.

I think David is currently recovering from injury daw? But I agree with DLSU takes, for me naman As long as Ramiro get used with his new teammates, and get comfortable with the Coach Topex System, he'll be fine, just give him time. I expect Policarpio and Cortez to have major roles in this team, Henry Agunanne starting to improve slowly but surely. But obviously, the PG will be by committee, and I think they have enough quality to support KQ.

A few games in and one can see Ramiro as a lock as starting PG. He has the quickness, handles, IQ of a true PG and does not look like a rookie at all. Safe to say that the PG slot is no longer an issue. Another player, Andrei Dungo seems to be "flying under the radar" but from what I've seen, this player is a special. His shooting and handles, IQ, and court demeanor hint at a second coming of Renren Ritualo.

Roty, 4 time chaml and 4 time mythical member (even in his rookie season).There’s a reason why his jersey is retired. Basketball is a team sport and player's minutes should be subordinate to the team's overall goal. The problem with LaSalle and UP was they're both overloaded with talented players, those who will notale to final cut.i guess they might look for other team to explore sayang ang talent and skill if they will just be relegated as reserves

True. But it’s always been an issue with top contenders. Players value winning a championship. That’s one of the reasons Konov picked La Salle. In general, I think over recruitment is more prevalent now across all teams since a lot of players tend to go pro earlier. FEU struggled with the departure of Abarrientos. Ateneo could really use the services of Kai Balungay and Geo Chiu. So teams are stocking up on assets just in case.

@@bolerosph I agree, it's just the nature of the beast. Just like in the capitalist NBA, that's just the market dictating itself so there's just no getting around it. The Archers, Blue Eagles, and just recently, the Maroons, are akin to the "big market teams" like the Lakers, Celtics, Clippers, etc. which naturally look more attractive to top-notch talent. A number of ways for low-market teams to beat the odds is by being resourceful, creative, and, well.. lucky. Teams like the Milwaukee Bucks did this one or a combination of factors like hiring a good GM, a good coach, good scouting in the trade market, optimizing their current roster, and yes, by getting lucky in the draft lottery. If say coach Goldwyn, Topex and Tab all transfer to the other programs, there will be parity in the league.

Daa has been solid of a Player like Patrick Sleat but has better motor. Pasaol has been Ballin although I think he needs to be a passer first before a scorer. Point Guard muna wag Points Guard. Pasa-tol and not Pasaol. 😂 and Man LUKE FELIPE is showing us what he can do. He's a knock down shooter and can slash inside. Lanky and Agile. Ilang games nang naka Double Figures si Felipe sa totoo lang and his defense is elite, kaya madami syang steals. We have yet to see Cholo Play, and I pray that he's fully recovered and more confident to play like the way he used to. With the addition of Jayden Jones (6' 4") and Nicholas Duque (6' 3") I think we're good. Weakest link lang talaga ng FEU is yung Back up Bigs. Miguel Ona, Aeron Bagunu, Layton Buenaventura and Beato. Lalo na si Ona. Masakit talaga sa Mata sorry. And Royce Alforque isn't ready to take on that Lead role for FEU. I think he should forego his final year and go pro.

scoring is not the problem for FEU. it's the local bigs is the problem Ona and Bagunu. my gaad they are already veterans but plays like rookies. i don't trust Alforque honestly especially in crucial possessions always erratic and shoots baldog. bahala na shoot. actually it's their veterans (Ona, bagunu and alforque) ang problem. UST got NCAA jrs MVP Amiel Acido just recently. you forgot guys.

While I agree that DLSU is strong, I’m sorry but Ramiro is not in the level of Nelle. Nelle is a different animal and they need someone like him to lead. I don’t know maybe Ramiro can step up his game. But as far as his latest games are concerned, not yet.

True. Ibang level naman yung Evan Nelle last season. Without him, they struggled din. But to be fair to the current lineup, a lot of the guys have also seen drastic improvements. Believe it or not, KQ is even better now. Poli looks like a star and not a role player anymore. Actually he would be a starter and top player on any other team. It just so happens that he plays the same position and role as KQ so he comes off the bench. - sam

To be honest I’m more concerned about UST this season. They’re still finding their identity but I think come UAAP, they’ll be a good team. Padrigao I believe is having a good time with the Tigers and it showed against UP. Given few more months, UST will be very exciting to watch. Their front court is still improving but I can see them making a good fight with any other team.
