Imagine playing on these in 1994, with auto bpm detectors for quicker beat matching and the effects and loops and stuff. Must have felt like the future.

Yes, it was :) . Compared to the competition it was and they saved me from quitting DJing when vinyl got harder and more expensive to get in 1994/95. I got the first model then and upgraded to the 500II when they came out in 1997. Still got them in almost perfect working order, but they're on the shelf since 2004. The alternative back then was the Denon DN-2000F and some Vestax crap... Actually took them out for a test run and recorded an hour long mix back in 2009 just to see if they still were an option as backup gear. During the 7 years I had them as my primary players they never failed to play a cd even once. I used them until I'd almost worn out a couple of the switches, cue/play/track and upgraded to the CDJ-800 in 2004. Now I'm on the NXS2 and I still have not had a single failure on any of my Pioneer players since I got my first pair 22 years ago. Some people say Pio players don't have the same build quality as other brands, but I don't know of anyone else who has 22 years of playing without a single error.

@@3dvisions Digital files didn't exist other than as CD's. Personally I had several promo services delivering CD's every other week with the latest international club music and then you still had to visit physical shops in larger towns to get the rest. Mp3 files were not practical to make in the mid 90's because the power to create those files didn't exist in consumer computers. The first mp3's I made were done one by one by converting wav-files that I had to rip first. On my existing Pentium 133 i took about an hour to encode each file to 128 Kbps... And you could only use them in the computer. Those players are for CD's only, but as they always play CD's the audio quality was often better than today when mp3's rule, even if my CDJ-2000NXS2's can handle HD audio. As long as I use mp3's those old players will have the same or a better sound when I play CD's.

Ahh, so that's how they work. I've had my CDJ 500s & DJM 500 since the late 90s and have never seen a video of how to use them. I still use them via DVS with my turntables and have no intention to upgrade. I just like beat matching music that I love and making mixes as seamless as possible. I'm a legend in my garage...

Yes, indeed: Must have felt like the future! Basically, this setup now can rock any club - you can play on it and the crowd can't tell is a 3 decades old setup. Besides, you have most basic features that you use in modern-day setup. If you ask me what I'll miss mostly is the cue points call that are from CDJ 1000 (2001) onwards.

Perhaps because he knows his old dog shit better than you do ;) ...

He pretends to scratch at abou 15:40, and these did not offer that ability, he also acts like he's beat juggling when the digital fader start 1/8th in is causing the track to start again at the cue point. I don't know why he's "scratching" and then letting the track go like he's releasing it, that's buster shit, even if it's 1994 on these tanks. LLV shows accurately what happens if you pause and jog wheel when he starts. I call bullshit on the Japanese dude.
@BlackWolfThiago4 жыл бұрын
Maybe it's because its just a demo of the product, this could be easily pre-recorded or put it on later on the video editing
@vinyljunkie073 жыл бұрын
Not bullshit he's demonstrating how the mixer can trigger the CD player and how you can use it creatively, it's a basic feature most broadcast radio players had where by when you raise the fader on the desk it would start the audio source in this instance the CD player. The CDJ and the DJM-500 both have dedicated control output and inputs to facilitate this. The wikki wikki like thing he's doing is pretty clever as when he starts the CD player with the cross fader if you use the jog wheel to pitch bend a little it makes it sound more authentic like a turntable
