I just ordered this head unit from Crutchfield today, I hope I don't regret it. I have always installed Alpine units in my cars and wanted to give Pioneer a chance, hopefully the issue has been resolved at the factory. Thanks for making the video, much appreciated.

Mine just went out on my Silverado 1500. My in-law was professional mechanic so he was able to install my new Sony unit in under two hours. While installing new amps n speakers throughout the truck. He told me before he retired, a lot of these came into the shop. Same problem. Even when he rest the system and fix the SD card for the system, it would be out in another month or two. He showed me a Sony unit he installed 7yrs ago in his truck that still works like new. He told me it’s a little more expensive but worth it if you’re going to keep your vehicle for a long time 😊

I have been in contact with the person who repairs pioneer stereos for Sweden and he says that the fault is from a faulty memory in the stereo, he also said that it is difficult to fix on your own. So it has nothing to do with any cable being loose to the LCD screen

For those who can’t send it for repair : the SMT chip on the pcb board got bad solders , when you put a push on it , the radio car boot each time you try i have a 160 DAB pioneer and it works for at this tim 👌🏼🤞🏻

I have a sph-160dab and sometimes it gets stuck on pioneer screen, and then sometimes its just a white screen with lines on it. But it never works at all now, its just one year old aswell

Sorry don’t have a removal/install video, but that process is gonna be different for every vehicle - just KZbin search “[your vehicle make/model/year] stereo removal” and see what comes up. Good luck!

I just called and Pioneer said they will not honor this repair anymore. That is so bogus because this is a manufacturing defect. I bought mine 2 years ago.

I doubt they’d repair that cracked screen for free, but call that toll-free number in the video. See what they say.

Check the SMT CHIP on the pcb board when you push on it during boot the radio car, it will work

I was installing mine and it dropped on my aluminum shift knob and now it’s muted and touch screen doesn’t work 😭

I also have a DMH-160BT, and I had intermittent black screen, then white screen a few days later. Mailed it to Pioneer and got it back in 2 weeks. Filled out a survey and got a $10 Amazon gift card.

Good question. They didn’t give a new timeframe, and I didn’t think to ask about that. But I have to assume that since this is a widespread problem, they’ll fix it even out of warranty (kind of like a recall issue on a car that’s out of warranty.)

I sent mine out for the repair for free all I had to do was pay the shipping but when it arrived over the the shipping handler broke my screen and pioneer is charging me $260 for the screen and I issued a claim with the shipping handler and they only sent me $100 for the damages and now they expect me to pay out of my pocket for the rest of the $260 when pioneer is the one selling these bogus radios that break after a month I’m so annoyed now I’m out a radio and left with $100 like what radio that’s not cheap am I gonna get , don’t send it out cause u will end up with no radio if it gets broken thru shipping , and end up paying for someone else damages hell no

Hey man thanks for the video. I’m having the same issue with mine. I’ve had mine since March 2022, so almost 3 years and I got it from BestBuy. Curious how out of warranty yours was because they said between 1 and 2 years they’d repair free but mines obviously way out of that range. Thanks!

I don’t think it’s something you can fix yourself unless you’re a skilled electronics repair person. If you’re having the same issue just call the phone number in the video and they’ll repair for free.

My 1-yr warranty had expired, yes. Pioneer did the right thing and honored the repair because it’s clearly a design or manufacturing issue. I only had to pay for the shipping one-way to California.

Hi! I have the DMH A4450, it looks just like yours and it having the exact same problem, i sent it to a technician and they sent it out to pioneer, but they werent able to fix it. I have a hobby centered around electronics and since pioneer could not fix it themselves, could you please describe what causes the problem and could we possibly get in contact thru email? Thankss. Also the issue is not consitent and sometimes it works perfectly fine but other the same issue occurs.

Don’t bother if the screen gets cracked while shipping they charge $260 to fix it and they won’t work around the problem either

If you haven’t tried it yet, use a pen to hold down the reset button on the face of the stereo.
