That Pioneer sub is clearly overpowered. You can see the surround over extending, unable to take the power smoothly. That's a very good amp for entry near stock level. You would not get an amp that good for even double what they cost 15 years ago.

kevin tillack I would hope he has it down I had the exact same set up and I blew my champion at a 2ohm set up fairly quickly. Those subs don’t do well at the rms rated or higher.

Correct. The Pioneer 8601 amp is probably a better match, as it puts out 500 W at 2 Ohms. You're not getting the most out of the sub, which is rated at 600 W, but you're also not going to blow it by constantly driving it at 33% in excess of its rating.

That sub is a dual voice coil 4 Ohms. That means it's wired for either a 2 Ohm load or an 8 Ohm load. I assume it's wired for 2 Ohms. The sub is rated for 600 W RMS (Continuous) power. The 9601 supplies 800 W RMS (Continuous) power at 2 Ohms. That's way too much power. You're going to eventually blow your speaker by over driving it. Good luck.

Laura Kilby Not correct. Try to actually read first. I’ll say it again. At 2 Ohms, the 8601 is rated for 500W RMS and the 9601 is rated at 800 W RMS. The sub is rated for 600 W RMS. lol I have a very similar setup I haven't put together because i'm lazy and its been cold and rainy but I Have the Rockford Fosgate P2D2 12 400w RMS in the RF Ported Prefab Box and I already had a Pioneer 820w 2 Channel 4oow rms Bridged @ 4ohms But I wanted a Amp that could power the Sub 400w @1ohm So now I have the Pioneer GM-d8601 1600w total I'm obviously not throwing anywhere near even 500w at the Sub But at least I have options

TS-W3003D4 12" Champion Series PRO Subwoofer with Dual 4 Ω Voice Coils and 2,000 Watts Max Power (600 Watts Nominal). It is hoked up in parallel mode so 2 x 4 Ω loads become a 2 Ω. The amp is able to produce 800 W @ 2 Ω so it is almost a perfect match for the sub. Anyway the amp is a 500 W @ 4 ohm not 300 but that has no relevance because the sub can only be hooked up at 2 Ω (parallel) or 8 Ω (serial).

mimoli Mimmi yes. Its the old 9601 it had massive power out put especially when you feed it with some good Current. But if you need to control the out put, and good sound, dont go to the max capacity of the amp because there your playing on the edge. Get a big power amp and wire speakers in a rating of half its power and it will not heat up or over work. For that reason, I don't like the 1ohm load.

Yes, but very quietly, and the box would have to be designed specifically for that purpose. In other words, if you want something that plays down to 20hz with any authority, save up OR learn about bandpass or tapped horn designs. Google around, the worst you can do is learn.

It depends what the box is tuned to. If it's a ported box, it should be just about at the tuning frequency since below that, excursion increases and the subwoofer unloads and can be blown easily.
