Just finished refurbishment of one of these, new belt, cleaned and oiled. Different cartridge, mine has an ortofon OM10. Sounds excellent.

I'll ask you too. Inherited the Pioneer PL-120 in good condition too, but it runs a tad over 33/3 and 45, new belt too, cleaned the capstan with Isopropyl Alcohol and it hasn't altered at all. Is there a screw or something to tweak the belt speeds? Be a shame not to have it playing again.

No surprise there are still PL-12D's out there. They made and sold SO many of these tables between 1973 and 1975...they were the Toyota Camry of turntables. When you walked into Pacific Stereo in California, they would have these stacked up at the door. Buy a Receiver and speakers, get the $99.00 PL-12D for free...
@braindeadtoo11 ай бұрын
I bought mine in '74 for £36 in London. No free offers:o(. They were excellent decks, especially when compared to what was on offer by British manufacturers at a similar price.
@joey112711 ай бұрын
@@braindeadtoo Heck yes. Same in the States. Over here, they were a budget wonder table. When you lusted after a Thorens, Dual, or Linn but you only had $100 for a turntable, the PL-12D was a given. As I said, at Pacific Stereo, they would give you a PL-12D when you bought a Receiver and Speakers. When the PL-12D II came out and the price went to $120, it kinda lost it luster over here...the PL-10 was introduced at that time as the NEW $100 table...but wasn't as good as the original 12-D.

I love this TT. My only problem is I can hear the motor through my speakers. I already took it apart and and cleaned it and lubed it but it's still noticable. My only guess is I have to replace the foam inside

Hi I've just bought a pioneer pl12-d and what amplifier would you recommend to pair it with? Thanks:)
@braindeadtoo11 ай бұрын
Assuming you have a moving magnet cartridge installed, any amp with a phono input will work. I used a Trio KA2000A with mine, which sounded great with my B&W D5 speakers, however it was only 16W per channel. If you're looking for a second hand amp, Rotel, NAD, Arcam, Cambridge all do decent amps.

I have a pl12 motor works fine but I have a lot of noise when I connect it to the speakers any idea why? I changed the cables, I connected gnd, changed outlets, rotated the power cord on outlet. Does the earth wire needs to be connected to the outlet wire?
@braindeadtoo8 ай бұрын
The earth wire must be connected to the earth terminal on your amp. If there is no terminal, them place it inder a screw that holds on the case. Make sure you scrape of any paint that might be under the spade connector.
@miguelmacedo9358 ай бұрын
@@braindeadtoo I have both a preamp and active speakers do I need to connect the gnd wire to the speakers as well?
@braindeadtoo8 ай бұрын
@@miguelmacedo935 that's a question I can't answer. I've only used a record deck with an amp and passive speakers. Do you get any noise when the preamp is connected to the speakers with the deck disconnected? If you don't, then hopefully you only need to connect the earth to the preamp.

No adjustment to my knowledge. The deck comes with two capstans, for 50Hz and 60Hz power supplies. Maybe you don't have the correct one fitted for your country?

I noticed on the net that some models have red and white cables, what would they be?
@braindeadtoo2 жыл бұрын
Probably because they are mk1s. If there's a handle on the front of the dust cover, it's a mk1. A mk2 has no such handle.
@salvatore43882 жыл бұрын
@@braindeadtoo in the end I got it mk1 with the handle and red and white cables ... it's unique, and I'm satisfied with it. now just to complete it I would like to look for the arm with the brush that is mounted at the top left of the plate
@braindeadtoo2 жыл бұрын
@@salvatore4388 I've never seen this on a Pioneer PL12D. Maybe it was a headshell from a different manufacturer. BTW it is generally thought that the headshell should be as light and rigid as possible, so adding a brush is not such a good idea. For this reason, some people also remove the handle. I used to have a lightweight SME headshell on my deck.

@@braindeadtoo Ł400 in today's money is quite a lot for a TT. You can get a very good quality entry level deck. I paid for my PL-12D last year about Ł60, but I bought a pre-owned original Pioneer headshell + brand new AT-VM95E cart with a stylus + a new belt + dust cover polishing cost +cleaning, lubrication, setting up everything correctly by myself. The parts + polishing were about another Ł60, so in total it was about Ł120.
