I have just re-foamed a pair of these. I wasn’t expecting much with the cabinet quality down on the HPM range, cheap terminals, little internal and small magnet on the bass driver. I was pleasantly surprised after a quick test, so upgraded the electrolytic capacitors in the crossover to polypropylene film types, added some extra wadding and WOW! There is a lot of potential there. The ribbons and mid/tweet integrate very well, very detailed and transparent. The bass goes decently low if not the most controlled . If Pioneer had spent a bit more on the cabs and a bit more on the woofer, these could have been world beaters.

If you can do these speakers , here is a good tip , after fitting foam reflex back , use a thin laer of puncture outfit glue , spreed it on the foam all round it , this will hold the foam so it dose not perish . This is my own idea since the 90s . I think mission 700s used a simular idea now come to think about it . Dose it work ? HO YESS

You should hear the pioneer dss-9 from same family. Some argue that they are best speakers, especially with those ribbon tweeters. I don’t know if you have Beryllium tweeters there but the dss 9 and 7 feature those plus have boron cores and graphite cones. I think you scored big time here! They all seem like same family.

Replacing the foam surrounds is definitely a DIY project. You can handle it.

Jammer dat ik niet in de buurt woon om ze op te halen, want ik zou ze graag willen hebben heb namelijk iemand in de buurt die ze goedkoop voor nieuwe randen voorziet.

Those bass drivers are very easily refoamed. But if you are not handy, you should send them to a professional just to avoid damaging them. Btw, they are very nice sounding speakers.

They are very pretty speakers and rare in good condition but unfortunately nothing special in them... 12 kg/ piece is not some highend stuff in my opinion. You can easily make a 150 eur start price!

, putting new rubber surrounds on woofers is not that difficult, fix them and clean them up. nice tweeters

Anybody that can buff-out a turntable dust cover can re-surround a woofer, Andrew. It will cost you about 50 euro for surrounds and adhesive and about 1 1/2 hours of your time. Quit playing them in this condition, though. You will damage their voice coils. IMHO, these are perfectly good mass-market speakers. I wouldn't bother to save them, but to each their own.

In my opinion, they are not worth your time re-foaming the speaker surrounds if you are not willing to do other modifications to them to make them sound better. You won't get the sound out of them that you do with your Cantons. These speakers can actually be made to sound very good, but you would need to add and install other components in them to make them sound much better than they do now. If you notice, the speaker connections on the back are very cheap and on the inside they have very simple, low quality crossovers. To make them sound better, you'd need to design a crossover for them using quality parts. Again, they can be made to sound very good, but only if you are willing to spend some time and money on them, and ONLY if you know what you are doing. A simple re-foam won't get the sound you want. But those speakers with properly designed crossovers and better quality speaker terminals on the back can be made to sound very good. If you aren't willing to do all that, just sell them and let someone else fix the surrounds, so they can enjoy them the way they are. Cheers.

Advise you to change drivers altogether for better ones not worth messing about could be a good project for you! the tweeters sound good are the mid-range in good condition as well ? upgrade the cross over at the same time the capacitors will need changing, put in Celestion. com, or Eminence. com drivers uk-based, if you like that American sounds checkout Jensentone. com they will advise you what the best driver is very good company deal with professional equipment a driver like that wouldn't be expensive a good quality driver 30 €50 each and much more superior than what's in there now. Might want to check out sees? Danish company make hi-fi drivers for bang and Olufsen, also check out Wilmslow Audio they sell drivers. Give them the code number of the induction what you got to match up usually drawn on with a marker on the magnet. If you go With replacing the surround what they can supply you I'll go with rubber or impregnated cloth not foam.

Never seen that model. The real value is in the HPM 60, 100 and up models that were made to compete with JBLs of that time! As for refoaming, I suggest you practice on a FREE set of speakers. That's what I am going to do. Someone on Craigslist here is giving away some Boston Acoustics HD9s that need some foams. They are FREE for pick up. And I am picking them up. Surround kits are $25 a pair. The only question here is do I need to refoam the 8" passive radiators alone, or also the 6.5" mid speakers! Because that means I could have $50 on my hands. Are they worth that? Sure. But this is not a common B.A. model. They were transitional after the much liked A40, A60, A70, A100, A150, A200, A400 series! I'm sure refoaming will FRUSTRATE me because I am a perfectionist and will take HOURS to finish this job. Even though I don't really know what I'm doing. They'll be my first!

are you gonna buy a turning device to make those drivers spin in the round. I can buy a wooden, 38 cm wide thing what can spin around for 15 euro...is it worth buying it? Watch the link of that device here: www.marktplaats.nl/a/huis-en-inrichting/woonaccessoires-etageres/m1293340395-stevig-houten-360-graden-draaibaar-plateau.html?c=9b26ed2a557deff636f4f8b9c5b7a618

And interesting device, but it looks like it would be better at making a pizza than helping with re-foaming, lol! I honestly don't think you need much more than your hands some glue and a razor sharp scraping device. The videos just say scrape away the foam from the speaker and the basket then apply a bead of glue around the speaker's edge lifting the cone gently and pressing from the top with your fingers as well, working around the edge a few times till everything seems flat. Then apply a bead of glue around the basket and press down on the outer foam ring, again working around and making sure to gently push the cone in and out to make SURE the speaker is CENTERED and there is no rubbing of the voice coil (now the professional will also rip off the dust cover and use shims to center the voice coil. But if one is careful and the speaker had NO rubbing to begin with you can just leave the dust cap on and do the above-I know the hardcore Do it your selfers will now scream NO, NO, NO! But, I've seen dozens of youtube videos that were successful and an older friend of mine does this ALL the time and he's always selling those speakers with no complaints).

Why not try? you can branch out and learn something new. Clean them up and re foam and sell them for more money. you will be proud of yourself.
