Just discovered your channel not too long ago and I'm absolutely fascinated. Seeing HD video from the 90s that isn't on film is mind-blowing! You should definitely make an Internet Archive account to preserve these rips uncompressed.

I once had a Pioneer DVD demostration disc, which included the same video and music. It was really pity that I got the DVD demo disc lost and never had a chance to buy the same one. from Guangzhou, China

Do you maybe have 1080i HD MUSE Hi-Vision Laserdisc Footage of 90s Russia?
@dommovedchannels6268
@dommovedchannels6268 3 жыл бұрын
None exists most likely. After the collapse of the USSR, crime and gang violence skyrocketed. It would have been suicide to visit Russia at that time.
@SL4RK
@SL4RK 2 жыл бұрын
@@dommovedchannels6268 Yes, you are right, in Russia then there was total poverty, even television was in decline at that time, I don't think anyone cared about tourists from abroad especially with expensive video cameras.
@eccIefechan
@eccIefechan 10 ай бұрын
@@dommovedchannels6268 That's a huge exaggeration. It wasn't THAT bad. In many ways you're more likely to face serious problems as a foreigner with a camera nowadays, from the 'authorities'. In the 90s there was significant organised crime and the economic situation was very shaky, but there wasn't 'gang violence' like you get in Latin America for example and it was ever changing. Putinist propaganda loves to exaggerate how bad the 90s were. It wasn't good for sure, but at least there was hope and a future. Not a fascist dictatorship like now.

@@SL4RK User 'docukino' has high quality videos taken in Russia in the 90s. It's not HD footage, but it's excellent for the time and clearly with expensive cameras. No one attacked them!

Thanks for these great videos! I wonder if the aspect ratio is correct, some sources say it should be 15:9.
@ReelyInteresting
@ReelyInteresting 3 жыл бұрын
Nice catch! Yeah, my AR is off but it should be 16:9, not 15:9. I'll see if I can fix this on future uploads. The old 5:3 AR applied only to video shot on analog HDVS (see my Coral Story upload)

Looks almost as sharp as early 2000s dvd. This would've blown me away in 1993.
@diogofaria5965
@diogofaria5965 2 жыл бұрын
This definitely looks sharper than DVD ever did. I'd say this looks slightly worse than early Blu-ray releases. The main issue with this system is the double interlacing method, which results in severe blurring with moving objects

Hello, I am looking for information about the camera used to film those videos but I cannot find anything. Were they using vidicon, plumbicon or CCD sensors? Do you perhaps know some model of analog HD camera? (even if not produced by Pioneer). Thanks :) these videos are so special

Not trying to sound nostalgic, but analog HD then looked way better to my eyes than digital HD. Now everything looks like a soap opera with too much brightness it hurts my eyes and looks really dull. I'm interested in hearing opinions.

@@JnL_SSBM So, Pioneer put out many DVDs that were sourced from Hi-Vision content: Gaia's Daughter (Pioneer's own production) Shinzo Maeda: Hills of the Seasons (Sony's production) Shinzo Maeda: The Seasons of a Hilltop Tower (Sony's production) Yoshino's Magical Splendor (Sony's production) Alaska: Last Frontier (Sony's production) Tahiti (Sony's production) Penguins (Sony's production) Guayana - The Lost World (Sony's production) You can find those uploaded on the Internet Archive too. It baffles me why none of those titles were ever released on something like Blu-Ray.
