I don't think a teacher would have done a better job teaching and explaining this whole process, as you have done. Very impressive!! Thank you!!

Excellent explanation.. Thanks for the information. It would be better if you could create a video demonstrating how the APC unit of sx-1980 works.

I have one of these! Bought it new in the 80s still works great. Try this. When you put your oil finish on flood the first coat then wet sand with 800, then 1000 etc. wipe well after the sanding. You can go as far as you want but you will end up with a glass surface. I like to finish with Watco wax.

I've actually used that technique on a couple of tables that I built several years ago. It came out beautiful! Thanks for the tip!

I did and loved doing wood flooring in the mid 90's for a few and loved it, but hated the people I worked for. After laying the floor it would be sanded 4 times, the first 3 with a 12" drum sander usually the first 3 sands would be a 30 to 40 grit to get the floor level followed by a 50 to 60 grit then a 80 to 100 grit, the finale sand would be a 100 to 120 grit screen on a floor buffer machine. Then we would sweep with a 3' push broom then we would lay a towel down, pour mineral spirits on the towel set the broom on the towel and run it across the floor 2 times to clean dust and anything else before applying the finish. I friend got me the job after I was layed off from my normal career, I liked it so much I stayed doing it for a few years, but as a example the finish we used was banned in California because it was so Carsonsigenic and the first time I used it I got so high I had to sit in my car for 2 hours before I felt safe to drive home. I bought a respirator and the owner's made fun of me for using one, In 1 day I would go through 3 sets of filters cause the coating would keep clogging the filter cartridges. Both owners died within 8 years of me leaving from cancer.

The cabinet for my SX 1250 had some bad scratches in it, so I tried to sand them out. That's when I found out how thin the veneer is on these cabinets. Needless to say, I wound up putting new veneer on it. It came out looking brand new and was pretty easy to do. The hard part was getting the cabinet screw holes perfect. I wound up using a hole saw, which worked out great. I used 3M contact cement, which a cabinet maker friend of mine recommended.

The Nyquist Shannon theorem states that a waveform can be perfectly reconstructed when the signal is sampled at greater than 2x its frequency (must consider harmonics as well). What you are seeing is NOT a sampling limitation. You are seeing the way the scope displays the data on the screen . It is just displaying the sampled points (dots on the screen). It is not reconstructing the signal mathematically. Unfortunately a lot of digital scopes don't reconstruct in X-Y mode (perhaps newer ones do). Analog scopes do the best job displaying in X-Y mode.

Man would l love to have you as my personal teac, I watch all your clips and the time you take to make the receiver as close to the manufacturers. I have two Pioneer SX 1980 one like new looking on the inside and face but the wood is in dad shap and no rely click well the other one works but it's not clean at all. It's hard to fine someone ln Denver that takes the time to do it right. Have fun with your channel.

Tony, when ever I need to display Lissajous curve I always use an analogue scope to do so, the digital scopes just can't handle them.

It looks beautiful! Since you're going to rebuilt the amps, I would nudge you to do something about the heat sinks. The rest of the receiver looks so nice but the heat sinks look a bit grungy.

Now that radios are using DSP processing to recover the audio from either an AM signal or a FM signal and the parts that are required to fix an analogue tuner are getting harder to get, is it possible to get a SDR module that could replace the FM/AM tuner.

Hi Tony! I have an SX-450 and SX-750 that have the same tuner gang issue. The shaft pulls out. These are units that I purchased used and refurbed so I'm guessing someone in the past has messed with these as well. Can you please post a video of how to fix this? It would be greatly appreciated.

Why don't you go online and search for your model no and a couple of videos should pop up, hes not going to do that just for you????..

@@ZRATAN69 Geez! Calm down Ernesto. That was uncalled for. I would never ask Tony to do something just for me. I know he has a lot on his plate. But, this does seem to be a fairly common issue. I have scoured the internet and various audio forums without much luck. If he is interested I think it could help out a lot of folks. If not, that's fine too.
