The A series isn't their entry level, that's the G series. They use polypropylene injected cones rather than a mica-reinforced composite. As far as the composition of the tweeter is concerned, it really depends on what sound profile you are looking for. It's the same as comparing digital and analog amps. They both do the same thing, but they color the output differently because of their design. In this case, Pioneer is targeting an audience looking for a slightly warmer sounding trebel and opted for a plastic tweeter as opposed to a titanium tweeter. As far as I'm concerned, I'm likely to agree with that decision. Titanium tweeters, or any other metallic reinforced tweeters sound incredibly sharp to me with stock equalizers. It is possible, of course, to carefully tune the system to make metallic tweeters sound however you like, as they are the most versatile in their sound reproduction, as they are the most precise. Just something I thought I'd mention.

I have a set of the ts-d1620 6.5" coaxials and the voice on them sounds comparable to the $300-$400 component speakers. I've done car audio for 20 years and I'm not sure exactly what they changed with these speakers but I will say that these are by far the best value speakers and sound way better than the price in both clarity and volume.

Wish they still made these. The new D series seem like a lower qauilty. Even their new Z series don't seem high end for $300+

The guy in this video is wrong, D series is the audiophile series and is positioned above the A series. Probably confused because the A series handles more power.

Wait so he said that the TS-A wasn’t their low level line at the beginning, but then shows a TS-A model and then says it’s their entry level line? I’m confused... I’m pretty sure the TS-G lineup is the entry level.

Used a mb quart onyx 4.80 with these. Loads of midbass, but I hated these for the 2 years I used them. There was this harsh uptick around 3khz, that made female vocals unbearable. Then I bought the polk db 6501s, way...WAY more smoother. Slightly less bass, but just seemed much more accurate.

Please help me out by choosing between below speakers; a top 3 would do nice. Also, do you think that i might benefit from better sound by adding a 4x50 RMS amplifier to the speakers? Car is 2015 Civic Hatchback(i would like to keep the stock player for now). 1. Focal PS 165 2. FOCAL PC 165 3. ROCKFORD FOSGATE P162S 4. ALPINE SPG-17CS 5. PIONEER TS-A172CI 6. MTX T6S652 7. JBL GTO609C 8. Infinity REF 6500 CX

I would use focal components up front and the infinity rear for fill with an amp definitely, clean power is sooo key

So with the cross over I wouldn't need a separate amplifier to power they right
@terminator7256
@terminator7256 10 жыл бұрын
The amp is optional, you can use a head unit only. But i highly recommend using the crossover. You definitely need it if you use an amp in the future. Keep in mind that the TS-D1720C speakers are good. They should have an amp to get the most out of them, so they will be louder and more clear. The crossover is a filter that allows only the necessary frequencies to pass through. Unnecessary frequencies make the speakers sound bad and also damage them. Basically, the crossover saves your tweeters from blowing by removing the bass and midrange from the signal. It splits the signal into low-mid range for the speaker and high range for the tweeter. There is no reason for a speaker to play signals as high as 15Khz, and most tweeters can not handle signals lower than 1Khz. Keep in mind those frequencies are used for this explanation only, as actual frequencies differ.

+Edde Luna Don't know if this is still relevant, but you'll need that passive crossover regardless of whether you are running an amplifier, since these are component speakers, which do not integrate the crossover and tweeter into the woofer package. The crossover splits the input feed and filters out the high frequencies on one feed for the woofer and the lows on the other for the tweeter. It's intended to keep your tweeters from burning out and your woofer from sounding terrible. As far as needing an amplifier, though, I would recommend running an amplifier, as they have fairly low sensitivity and moderate impedance. They will still sound better than most existing OEM speakers just run off the head unit, but they will lack any significant bass because the amount of power needed to push extreme amplitude at low frequencies is quite high. Run an amp and all is well with the world. Try to keep you per-channel wattage in the upper RMS range for these speakers, so somewhere in the 45-55W per channel RMS.

so with the amp in/out puts on the cross overs, does the head unit plug into thoes or what? do i need to run these through an amp or no?
@Gonzalgi21
@Gonzalgi21 6 жыл бұрын
Bob Cooke no you dont NEED an amp but you wont get the most out of these if you arent amping them. As far as wiring, your stock speaker wire goes into the crossover where it says “amplifier” then the other two sides go to tweeter and woofer as it says.

On this review all sounds hunky dori, and so I go ahead and order these. Then another Pioneer 6x9 review..."I would not buy any Pioneer" etc, about how crap they ALL are, and only the Pro is marginally good. It would help to include some personal experince feedback on these from you standpoint as we are watching your video. So I ordered them for 99shipped. Its either these or my 10 year old Kappa Perfects that go in the new car.

Hey thanks for the quick reply, im just getting all fitting bits on amazon now, i have the TS-E171C (think thats the D series in the states) and thought the speaker wire looked kinda thin, i have some 12 gauge, guess ill just use that on my sub.

No experience wit pioneer. Their speakers have always sucked. BCk in the day when the models of amps were. 821,921,and especially the 1021 were bad ass amps. Their newer ones are still pretty strong. And have had many decks. Pioneer. Premier. At least 5-6. And never had a issue with them. Seem good but get bad rap. But their subs suck. No matter how you slice it. Would rather have a Sony xplod. And I’ve never evsn heard one. Can’t stand the shape of em. 😂
