In this video we try to show you how sound looks when passing through your crossover network. The point of this is to help you better understand how passive crossovers work. We want to show what is happening to the sound as it goes through the crossover.

great video as always ! I have always wondered if there is a way to determine the power (watts) to each speaker ? IE mid and tweeter through the passive crossover. example would be I have a mid with a RMS max of 100 watts and a tweeter with RMS max of 60 watts. my output power from the channel on my amplifier is 100 watts, is there a way to determine what each speaker is seeing ? idea being what actual wattage from an amplifier channel do i need to satisfy both of those speakers to the best of their capacity. or just how you would determine such, as you guys are top notch at what you do based on what I see on youtube !! thanks in advance !

Tho i'm late, excellent explanation. I thought my 2 way passive component woofer was playing very low frequencies. I've been trying to determine what frequency though, probably all the way from bottom as you explained. So, as you have described, I played around with the HP crossover and adjusted the range, to eliminate/lower the bass. The thing is tho, its hard to determe what cut off has been applied, and have to just go by ear. The I realised my multimeter apparantly reads frequency. So I ran some test tones with an app, throught the system. The meter read the frequency correctly, but according to it, in the HP position, low frequencies were still getting throught?! all the wau to 50z. The range on the amp crossover is 50-320hz. I played around and it madeto difference, all low freqencies stillgot through. Maybe the meter is wrong. As when I use my ear to listen, in the HP position and adjusting the pot, bass was removed. Is it being just attenated? Maybe its damaged? As the LP crossover works as intended, even on the meter. Just so odd. I need one of your meters, but wish I could just rent one.

Does your head unit have a high pass filter on the front/ rear? I am running coaxial speakers off the head unit at the moment and found that at higher volumes the vocals would distort even though the signal was clean, this was because the lows were over powering the mids, setting the hpf on my head unit eliminated this at the cost of some bass, the speakers actually pretty good at making bass (people would ask if I had a sub) with a response rated from 45hz upwards. My pioneer head unit has a hpf that can be set from 50hz to 200 cutting bass to the fronts and a low pass for the subwoofer output, with the HPF set to 100hz my mid are much cleaner and I can turn the volume up an extra ten points to around 55-6 instead of 45 before I get clipping (was just distortion before not clipping), at 200hz you lose a lot of the drums as well as the bass so unless you have a sub is not worth going that high.

Great video as always guys. Please use the following two as the question(s) of the week. When using the lc7i or lcq1 automode to generate a sub output, is there signal (voltage) loss in that generated output? Does an 80amp fuse in an amplifier mean that anything over that rating will pop the fuse?
@FiveStarCarStereoInc

What I've been looking for thank you! I have one question. Will a crossover split the power from an amplifier to each speaker evenly? For example if I want to amplify a component set with a 2 channel 300 watt rms amp (150wX2 @ 4ohms) will each speaker receive 75 watts?
@angelfire4797
@angelfire4797 6 жыл бұрын
Luke Connell hey man, idk if you ever figured it out but that would be called bridging your amp. You take the power from both channels and use it as on channel. But technically you could just run both off a single channel in the case because it’s a 2 channel amp. If it was a 4 channel amp running 400 Watts for example, you could split it into 2 and run 200 Watts to each, and then tune it down on the amp so it only allows however many Watts you need, in this example let’s say 75 per speaker, this is crucial so you don’t overpower your components. Hopefully this helps you or someone else. :)

Hi Sir. Thank you so much for posting the video. Please advise. I can't get my subwoofer to produce 20Hz bass; it still has punchy bass, which I don't want. Should I use an aftermarket cross over like "boss" to get the 20Hz wavy bass? I have a 12 inch, 2000watt Pioneer sub in ported box (responsive to 20Hz) with a dedicated Pioneer mono block 1000Hz amp in my car. The remaining midranges and tweeters each have their own 6 channel pioneer amplifier. Finally, I have a graphic equalizer. Please advise, sir, if I should get a cross over I, and tune it to 20zHz ? I have tried using several graphic equalizers, but none of them had a 20Hz bass knob to enable this kind of bas.s P lease advise, Thanks.

I have a dilemma. In my 5.1 home theatre system the center speaker is a Dynavoice Challenger c-5 mk1, and I recently noticed that out of the two 5.25inch woofers one sounds louder than the other (even tried swapping them, same problem). Why is this happening? The speaker receives the a mono signal from the AV receiver (LFE) so there is no problem with the balance. Or maybe the passive crossover in the speaker is faulty somehow. Please, what should I do?

Mr Mention. In my car I had two sets of Alpine 6.5 components running off of a Alpine PDX F4 4x100w rms. I set my crossover at 100hz because i have a sub and play a lot of bass heavy music and don't want to damage my mids. However if you don't have a sub I would set the crossover at 80hz for a fuller sound and turn the bass down on low bass tracks or set a higher crossover point from your head unit.

Hey! I have a question for you guys. I'm having an issue with my crossovers from a component set I purchased from Skar Audio. I have an alpine 4 channel amp model MRX-F30 to be exact. And the issue I'm having is when I turn up the volume on my radio its putting the amp into protection mode and wont play any sound until I pretty much reset the amp by turning off the car and turning it back on.... so I tried disconnecting the crossover and just connected the speakers directly to the amp and the speakers and the amp works perfectly fine no issues at all. The only problem I run into is when the crossovers are connected to amplifier. What do you believe the issue can be??
