You have to do midbass vs midbass not midbass vs mid-range. By the way mid-range only work on higher frequencies close to tweeter range because of less coil travel.Mid-range speaker are for higher voice sounds vs midbass for certain beats, guitar notes and deeper pronounced voice. I thank you for this demo on this great equipment.

I have the Pioneer Pro 6.5 on the front doors and the 8" on the rear doors in a 2002 Yukon. It sounds great. I just installed 2 6.5in Pioneer Pro in the front and I ordered 2 of the DS18 6.5 for the rear doors in a 4 door 2012 GMC Canyon. The ds18s come in today. I'm excited to hear them perform together. Thanks for this video.

I could be mistaken, BUT....the DS18 is an 8ohm & the Pioneeris a 4ohm, so it's not a good comparison against the Pioneer. You have to use the 4ohm model & you'll see the difference. DS18 will show up the Pioneer. The impedance causes the Pioneer to get about twice the wattage. #usethe4ohm!

I listen to a little bit of this vid every morning during my hurry up and eat breakfast before work episodes. The Pioneer is just better designed and made. Paper cone woofers almost always outperform other materials. Paper pulp is light weight, moves fast, stops fast, which makes damping for the amp easier. The Phase plug is likely actually working, while DS phase plug is probably just something they stuck on it to help sell it. --That Pioneer Pro audio 12" sub they make to go with the midranges is crazy too. The bass goes so low, so much bass, so clear and clean.

Outstanding demo! Both really great speakers and each brings something great to the listeners depending on who's listening and for what reasons. DS18 bullet has a flatter response curve, better for a more accurate representation of the music in a mixing situation. The Pioneer bullet has a more detailed, as explained, but an almost false representation of the music. With the said, the Pioneer bullet is great if you want clear accurate details and not caring about the true flatter musical representation from the engineer who mixed the songs.

DS sounds hollow because it’s useful range is focused in a tighter band, this would likely vanish when put with a mid bass and tweeter; the Pioneer definitely covers more ground but is beaming with that phase plug. I almost prefer to reshape it or knock it off.

Your thinking the Pioneer needs a huge amplifier is counter to the reality of the efficiency from a larger magnet. Overall DS18 is more a midrange and Pioneer full range. In an SPL competition utilizing more and different drivers I think I would use DS but for a simpler system Pioneer.

The Pioneer clearly is better, and I did a blind listen and when I checked ... it was Pioneer. Then I listened more, and the Pioneer obviously sounds better. But, they are under powered, and in some box that isn't made for them. They are designed to be inside a car door.

The pioneer looks like a better speaker. I own the rockford primes. They are loud but have almost no bass or midbass and the vocals sound bad at high volume. I replaced them with mtx terminater 6.5s and they sound a lot better than the primes. Huge difference between Rockford primes and mtx terminaters.

A coworker of mine had the 2x12 MTX Terminator box and blew the voice coils on both subs out due to incorrect gain settings on his amp. I've tried telling him but he won't change his settings.. says this is how it sounds best to him. So he gave me the two blown MTX subs with the box for free, he knows I'm into audio salvage and I'll probably just get a pair of 12's to replace the blown ones. Now he's onto a 2x12 Rockford fosgate p3 setup, seems to be handling the abuse his amp is putting out way better then the MTX subs did. I know subs and woofers are two completely different things but this was just his experience with MTX and Rockford fosgate.

@@troyguinn303 you cannot compare the terminaters and p3s. The terminater is mtxs bottom of the line cheapest series. Rockford fosgate has at least four series of subs below the p3. You are comparing a $45 terminater with the $150 p3. The terminaters and the primes cost almost the same with the primes being about $10 more but no where near as good as the terminaters. I am not talking about opinion. I am talking about build quality and output.

The one thing I don't necessarily agree with is MTX being American owned having anything to do with quality of the end product. Most of it is produced in China anyways. And thinking about it from a business perspective, I'd think a Chinese owned company could control the quality of a Chinese made product; better then an American owned company trying to control quality from overseas.

You can't compare this 2 particular speakers, ds18 is 8 ohm, meanwhile the pioneer is 4 ohm which means the pioneer is going to sound louder but, it won't stand real power continuously. There's a reason why the 1 ohm subs are the loudest because the less ohm the more sound you'll get even though they are more vulnerable to burn.

Pioneers definantly win, I have owned both. The pioneers play down to 70hz and will move your leg hairs in a properly deadened door. Also they are ALOT smoother than every other brand I have used. The ds18 may be louder but even with excessive equalizer adjustments they are hard to listen to for too long because the "mid-range" is so aggressive. All other pro audio mids can't play under 120hz either.
