I have a 9700 model and it still works well, however the VSX series runs quite hot, and they're a PITA to service

We still use our VSX-9500s to power the ceiling speakers in our house. Sounds very good. My dad paid somewhere around $1000 in 1990 in Canada and it has made it all the way to the US, still going strong. I told him to never throw it away even if it breaks LOL

These old Pioneer amps overheat and pop if they get too hot, ive seen it a few times. Need to make sure it is well ventilated and your speakers are the right ohms (8)

@@toddstewart9070 Oh for sure these things heat up. My dad would always throw house parties and push the receiver to the brink of death. He had to put two desk fans on top of it to keep it cool through the party

@@cornman-re5th My old VSX-9300 still kicking hard, but the buttons are getting non responsive. Need to take the front off and spray the buttons with some DeOxit or something. Very powerful receivers, just gotta watch the heat. You can cook eggs on the top of those things. Excellent quality nonetheless, and nice to look at.

I have had the VSX-7500S since 1990. I think it died today as sound does not come out but everything else works on the display. But for close to 28 years it did everything it was supposed to. Even in the end I had my iPod linked into the LINE1 chained with a Yamaha equalizer and dynamic expander. Will see what a repair could cost, but it seems it is time to upgrade for something new.

I sold this model a few months ago. I'm playing now on VSX-9900S :). In this model I had trouble with the power supply. Not all. Only one section for the power amplifier. Maybe it's worth checking.

Thanks for the reply. Looking at the specs these units were about $800 range new for 125watt back then so they were the middle upper end for receivers not named McIntosh. I got mine while in the military so it has the switching power supply 110w/220w (US/Euro) selector in the back. These stereo receivers were prime competitors with Sony. Yamaha, and Denon. You can find these in the $75 to $100 range if you stumble upon one.

Hi, I noticed your pioneer Ct m66r is white instead of amber. Was it modified?
