Concorde is the greatest civilian aircraft ever built. In the aviation hall of fame Concorde stands second only to the Wright brothers' maiden flight. Even before she leaves the ground, she goes like a bat out of hell! She cruises at twice the speed of sound, faster than the earth rotates. She's so far ahead of the pack, she's out of sight!
Aérospatiale-BAC Concorde is a retired turbojet-powered supersonic passenger airliner or supersonic transport (SST). Concorde was jointly developed and produced by Aérospatiale and the British Aircraft Corporation (BAC) under an Anglo-French treaty. First flown in 1969, Concorde entered service in 1976 and continued commercial flights for 27 years. The aircraft is regarded by many people as an aviation icon and an engineering marvel.

The US developed and flown Mach 3 strategic bomber (XB-70) even before Concord took into the sky and Sukhoi developed something similar few years later, but you can't argue much though with the good look and fact that Concorde was closest we got at the time to affordable Mach 2 transportation viable at least for top-earning 1% of population...

@@baza7008 that does not make sense. Of course there has been more accidents with other passenger jets, since theres so many of them compared to this one.. Out of less than 20 Concordes operating , one crashed..Thats a truly crappy statistic.

@Nathaniel Cruz The short answer: Age. The long one: Economics of flights. Inavailability of the spare parts (or their expence due to uniqness and never-happened mass production, as it was planned at the start). Noise pollution standarts. Ecological standarts. The collection of the "take off\landing" cycles by the airframe. Obsolescence of all it's systems - electrical, navigational, hydrolic, etc. And so on. Pick any of those - they were all relevant. The conversations about their retirement started long before Paris. That disaster just made a final push. There are no eternal things, especially when it comes to such sophisticated machines. 27 years of service is more than enough for any passenger aircraft, let alone the aircraft that extreme. There is a time to shine, and there is a time to rest.

My Dad was very proud to have made some of the parts of Concorde as I'm sure all those involved with it are. He was presented with an official Concorde tie which was worn on all family occasions much to our amusement. The tie now is a precious heirloom and reminder of my Dad so I always get a bit emotional when I see things about it. It was such a great achievement and must be a great sense of pride to those that flew it, made it. It's just completely brilliant.

Love the video, thanks. This will remain the most wonderful aviation creation in history. Even the announced future supersonic jets aim at just Mach 1.7, and when they are built they will have the cheapest components available with many parts sourced from China like today's "modern" jetliners. Nothing will beat the majestic beauty of the European designed built Concorde.

It's amazing that after being grounded for so long it still has some much appeal and make us long for the next-generation of SST but when facing reality, I'm just wondering how on earth this plane was ever conceived and at one point it even made a profit for the companies who owned it. I don't know when or what type of SST we'll see in the future but for the time being, year 2023, there has only been one, and there will be just one CONCORDE.

@george385 8 жыл бұрын
mcwolfus2 Leaving rubbish on a runway is a risk to any aircraft - and incidents involving burst tyres are not restricted to Concorde. You have to ask yourself why the French overfueled Concorde with a ton too much fuel as well as a ton too much cargo? The overfueling meaning wing tank number five was overfull, generating a shockwave that actually punctured the tank?

boeing had a plane in early stages of development in the 60s and 70s which was set to carry 300 people and fly 3x the speed of sound but was canceled because of the poor sales of the concorde and other political and environmental reasons but thankfully they were developing the 747 which was way more profitable and still in production 40 years later . Supersonic planes are loud, burn lots of fuel, and flight paths are limited due to sonic booms not being allowed over land. there was only 14 Concordes in service. Air lines want fuel efficient planes that can fly half way around the world.

French invention? Sorry but French guys joined the team 6 years later than British guys. In UK, the idea of making a supersonic commercial jet suggested in early '50s and research/development started in '56. French guys adopted the idea later and join the UK team in '62. Studies and works might have been taken to France than, but the initial idea belongs to UK.
