Nikolaos Pizanias i typically only deal sch 40. It is more about not having to invest in bevel cutting tooling. Especially when you only have a hand full of cuts to do. Now there are cool metal cutting saws so you get a square cut, and beveling tool cutters that are reasonably priced. If I were doing heavy production I would invest in the tooling.

michael schade would love to see it! I have been told by many plumbers that I have worked with over the years that you can't flame cut a bevel! I just wanted to share it with others that it is easily done with a little bit of practice. I may go a year or between jobs that I need to fit on. I only do it when we are in a pinch. I enjoy doing it and if I did it daily my cuts would look 10x's better. When I did this video I hadn't fit anything up for 3+ years. Part of me wants to try with a plasma cutter but I have always used a standard torch and know the feel. Please share your work. I love to see others work and methodology.

shaufik hidayat you're welcome. I may not be perfect at it, but the point is that you can do it with a cutting torch. Sometimes I go years in between fitting pipe so the little I do doesn't warrant the investment of a beveling tool. Rigid recently came out with a cutter head that clamps on the end of the pipe and rotates around the pipe. It will do from 4" up and I think the cost may be around $2k.

were you ever able to get a cleaner cut im not being a dick im just curious i dont get the luxury of a bevel machine so i have to use a metabo
@shannonhaugen88908 жыл бұрын
+ralphgomez78 Ralph, I'm not sure what a metabo is, maybe you can explain.I can get a really clean bevel on larger pipe. Especially if I get a chance to stay out in the field and get a few warm up cuts in. Most of my stuff is sch 40 medium pressure gas, so it doesn't require x-rayed welds. My welders do not have a problem with minor imperfections. I was taught by an old timer back in the early 90's and found it to be a lot faster than hand beveling or an air beveler. Now that there are metal cutting chop saws instead of old school chop saws the cuts are much closer to being square prior to hand grinding.
@ralphgomez788 жыл бұрын
+Shannon Haugen thata cool man a metabo is like a chop saw but for a 6" grinder the disc is only 16th wide great for cutting pipe but this could be useful when you get up to bigger bore pipe especially if you can get a smooth cut.

Get your free hand positioned right and make the cut in three turns on a 4 inch. Turn the ox down a little and you won't need a file. The beater will do the work when you pound a land onto it. I worked 20 years using a gas axe and a three pounder to make up x-ray joints. A grinder is for grinders. Fitting is for fitters. How many grinders you know making double bubble? If you hear your welder whining it's because you didn't buck him up enough to keep him from engaging his yap.
