I think we need to put blame where it's due. The Mac Baren family tree got to the point where they are more interested in real estate and offered the company to STG. THOSE are the people that need the anger directed at. They had no idea the complete ramifications of this. All small blenders in the US use Sutliff tobacco. Are they going to fold? STG just took advantage of a fire sale. I'm more concerned of the EU which STG is a part of doing away with tobacco all together. Then we're all screwed. McClelland 2.0. Only problem is McClelland just stopped and left us void of all Frog Morton. Sure wish they would give up the recipe to that one. I digress.

I hear ya. A clear example of nepotism run amuck. It is more about the handling of the whole deal after the "fire sale" that i have a problem with. Frankly, I believe this is the plan….kill tobacco. Granted the STG site shows their all in for cigars but if we really want to make a difference we need to let them know how we feel. Remember though this is all about profit, you can see that on their website.

MacBaren deserves some blame, but STG is not simply "taking advantage of a fire sale". This is a garbage take. They "took advantage of a fire sale", and then decided it was most profitable to shut down most of the operation, and stop producing what, like 60% of the blends, last I heard? STG could have purchased the companies and done something good. Whatever blame MacBaren deserves, it doesn't lessen the blame owed to STG.

Easiest translition to make if you want to boycott STG is simply smoke tobaccos under the Laudisi umbrella, In addition to CandD and Middleton you can also access the Gawith lines of blends.

I just got my first can of Walter Raleigh. I assumed I got an under-fermented batch because it was disgusting. Not in an "acquired taste" way either. In a "this is rotten" way. Pure vinegar with notes of sour milk and cat piss.

I'm boycotting STG because it's the right thing to do. I don't have any hope that enough people will do the same to make any change, but STG will never get another cent from me. There's still Gawith and C&D, and I'm starting to get into whole leaf/home grown.

Thanks for the video. My two cents is I think that a boycott risks sending the wrong message. Profit is everything to these large international corporations. If they see demand for various blends fall below a certain threshold, that blend will simply be discontinued. Instead, if many of us “customers” contacted STG about our concerns about the quality and future of various blends, it may have a small positive impact as STG would see these communications as “demand” for various blends. As we know, at the end of the day it’s about profit.

Most boutique blenders use sutliff for their components. Stockabye is has been produced by STG for a while.

Out of all the pipe channels as of lately concerning this issue this one hits the spot! I am a half and half smoker as well and one of the only codger blends I like. My g-pa used to smoke it too. smoking some Sutliff Kringle flake. And am on board with this boycott right after i get one more Tubb of h&h lol. You have my subscription bud. Cheers from Utah.

Yep, it is not a good situation. The real bad boy is the family that owned Mac Baren. They sold the company in a panic when they realized the CEO they fired truly was guilty of mismanagement. The result is now this chaos we are left with. STG is all about the profit. And many blends will disappear because they don't make enough to justify STG's large batch production. I am not going to buy another product from either STG or a company STG has acquired. The Laudisi group will get my money and any other small producers. So that means Cornell & Diehl, GL Pease, Kopp, Rattray, and HU. It is a sad day, but tobacco blends have disappeared before. Which also means maybe I need to start exploring making my own tobacco from raw leaf. Others have done it before me, I can do it too.

I'm not boycotting STG, because I'm not sure they would even notice. What I'm doing instead is SUPPORTING all the companies that are NOT STG. Which is kind of the same thing, just a slightly different perspective.

The amount of pipe tobacco blends being produced is about to take a major hit. Boycotting the company producing the majority of the remaining blends would be just stupid lol. Definitely support companies like C&D, G&H, Peretti's, etc. but boycotting STG is crazy talk. Let's not forget it's Mac Baren that sold out, not STG. IDK. Just my opinion. I think a lot of people's anger is misdirected.

Yes they make Henry wintermans half corona which are very popular in uk . I found better ones made by a place called villiger it seems STG are slowly taking over a lot . But as Walt said its a bunch of milarky and probably some sinister reason will arise

I just don’t get it. It makes no sense to purchase a huge company & then shut it down, alienating all the current customers in the process! We’ll react just like we are! They must have the ability/intent to produce the same product elsewhere cheaper & make up for the void that’s left. Hopefully this is the case.

STG is not entertaining any bids to sell Sutliff, they are scrapping the production equipment as well.

"Sutliffs" ceased to exist whenever they sold their name to the bigger fish irregardless of what continued to happen at the factory. It was gone before the ink dried and that wasn't recent. There's only an actual "loss" if someone doesn't fill the void. Sure, they won't be able to use that old sticker you liked so much, but I bet you didn't smoke it anyway...

GL Pease is made by C&D. My favorite VaPers are all made by stg so I’ll have to start exploring ones made by C&D

STG is not down, they just acquired 2 of the largest tobacco blend houses in the world for a ridiculously low price. That's not the issue, it's how they are handling the acquisition.

Are you a truck driver pipe smoker ? If so, hell yeah! Also, if we were to hypothetically boycott STG, what other large brands would we purchase? Aside from C&D. And unfortunately I'm not going to boycott STG as a new pipe smoker, its not as bad as everyone is making it out to be. But to each their own.

I am a truck driver. There are many independent blend houses that make many fine products, C&D being the largest. And believe me, it is as bad and way worse than everyone is making it out to be. But I respect your decision, smoke what you like. Thanks for the comment, and thanks for stopping by!

I recently got a pouch of SWR, absolutely hideous! I won't boycott STG, where will that leave me? Smoking Cornell&Diehl? I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. I'm sure many of you are like me, if not much worse and have plenty of tobacco to last for years. And I've seen plenty enough of those videos where gluttony has taken over and guys have much more tobacco than they can smoke in their lifetime.
