I just started this hobby. My son is a cigar smoker and occasional pipe smoker. He inherited a lot of pipes from my mother-n-laws past two husbands...I know that sounds a bit creepy, but she's in her mid 80's and has outlived three husbands. Anyhow, I have been making notes in a notebook from your videos. My wife told my son of my interest and he came over and gave me two pipes to try out...a straight and curved pipes, both are old and from the 50's and 60's...one was never smoked. I have to say, I smoked the straight pipe and feel the curved pipe is more of a comfortable hold. I do plan on having both on hand though. He also brought over a couple tobacco for me to try, Peterson's Early Morning (which was my first smoke) and Peterson's Nightcap. Because of your awesome tutorials, my first smoke went very well. I was able to smoke my first bowl for about 40-45 minutes with just a couple relights and practiced "sipping" the draw. My bowl did get hot a couple times, but overall, I could not tell I even had lit it while holding. I really appreciate the videos, lots of good information. I prob will only smoke a couple times a week at most, but, I am an avid hiker / RV traveler and see this being an addition to my gear. Thanks again, appreciate your backstory...I'm a born again Christian in the creation ministry. God bless you and your family my friend!

Great video on a great topic! I can’t be the only one who thinks English blends taste better out of certain pipes, same with my Virginias and aromatics. To each their own!

it is the basis of knowing how to smoke a pipe, choosing the size of the Bowl. The rule is that the only way a wooden pipe can "cool down" is from the external air flow that passes through the Bowl, therefore, a wider hole will smoke at lower temperatures, a narrower hole will smoke at higher temperatures, it's physics, wood does not conduct heat, while the carbon crust does. DO YOU LOVE FLAVOURED TOBACCOS? Take a hole 21 mm wide, so that the freshness given by the distance of the walls increases the sweet note of the Cavendish, the same tobacco in a pipe with an 18 mm hole, the more intense heat will increase the note of the Virginia and less that of the Cavendish which will become more easily pungent.

I really like your videos as a matter of fact you are the first one I watched. I've found that I agree with you the majority of the time, however there have been many times blends smoke and taste better in different bowl types. Example of this is I recently bought Kramers Cary Grant I tried it in my country gentleman cob it was horrible, but when I tried it in a briar totally different story, but when I tried it in my olive wood pipe it was exquisite. What I am saying is sometimes the bowl does make a difference. If you haven't tried Cary Grant blend I highly recommend it.

Im more led towards bent pipes. I like them and they fit my preference. I have 18 pipes that Ive collected throughout the many years I have smoked them and I enjoy all of them. They each have thier own personality. I like meerschaums and I love to watch them color. As for choosing pipes for different tobaccos I just load any pipe with the tobacco of my choice and smoke it. Enjoy your pipes and enjoy the pipes you choose.

Clenchable pipes that sit well, thats my priority, it makes walking and smoking easier, and also is handy to be able to set down on a table while im reading or sketching

How do you determine if a bowl Is more narrow then another if it’s not very obvious. If I put my bowls side by side some seem the same for the inside diameter. Love the content God Bless

Check-out his playlist. He's got one one for beginners (like me). I learned a "ton" of stuff and my first smoke was very enjoyable. He's a great teacher. Take care my friend!

I just bought a Peterson 68 today after an extensive look at my options, for the purpose of getting a dedicated Vaper/English pipe. Evidently we're experiencing pipe synchronicity.....

I swore I'd never buy a full bent pipe, then one day scrolling on eBay it happened. Nice big egg. 2 inch deep bowl almost perfectly conical, best Virginia pipe I have. Other blends as great in it to but it just seems to bring out more in the Va's that I don't get out of my other pipes.

Off topic but I have two questions: Where do you find that style of waist coat with lapels? Second, if I were to begin reading Charles spurgeon, where should I start?

I noticed that about Virginias as I accumulated more pipes. Thought it was just in my head at first.

Do you think the cut of the tobacco is suited to particular pipes? Ribbon vs flake for example.
@sounddude1774 күн бұрын
Yes. For example take a MacBaren flake, like HH Burley flake, fold in half, then in thirds and it fits perfectly in a narrow bowl. It also lasts a good 90 minutes. Same flake in a wide bowl burns in half the time and not as enjoyable.
@asahelnettleton90446 күн бұрын
I've also found that broad bowls work for me as I favor burley blends. My go-to is the Author shape with a 0.85"+ diameter bowl. Churchwardens are always fun for reading or chatting.

Do you use LOGOS Bible software? You should go over some books behind you. Always like religious commentaries. What are your go to commentaries ?

Day five no ciggys for me. Got my first tobacco pipe. 60 meerschaum and I got Early Morning Blend by Peterson for tobacco. I DID NOT LIKE IT. I think the taste I didn't like was called lakia or something? Question : if I detest early morning pipe blend what other names should I stay away from. Thank you 🙏🏼
@TheSpurgeonPiper2 күн бұрын
It's likely the Latakia. It's easier just to make sure any blend you're interested in buying doesn't have Latakia in it.

As a request for a possible future video. Could you review/cover alternative style pipes, like falcon pipes, clay, olive wood or morta. Keep up the good work, really enjoy watching your videos!
