High up in the Arizona Strip by the Utah border sits Pipe Spring National Monument - a site of conflict, controversy, and a much-needed natural resource. Once home to the Kaibab Paiute as well as Mormons, this park offers an educational look at history.
Pioneer history exists all across the West and few other sites contrast the differences between cultures such as Pipe Spring National Monument does. On the land flows a spring that provided much-needed water for the native Kaibab Paiute tribe living on the land as well as the Mormon pioneers settling across the area.
The structures at the site have been estimated to have been constructed between 1863 to 1885. Visitors will find Winsor Castle, an old Mormon fort built on top of the spring itself, two smaller cabins, corrals that once contained cattle so important to the Mormon settlers, and the cistern containing water from the spring.
The visitor center provides an educational movie with the history of the two cultures as well as that of the property.

Aww, that was so sweet of you to think about me in the pumpkin patch 🤣 Didn't mean to take that away from you Amy 😁That's crazy that more people don't visit. I thought they had quite a bit to see and learn about. Thanks for taking us there!!

This place looks amazing. We tried to go one year after leaving the North Rim but couldn't make it before it closed due to a non-moving bison herd at the Grand Canyon. That fence doesn't look like it could keep that longhorn detained if it decided it wanted to be elsewhere!

I doubt that there's very much that could contain a longhorn if it really decided to be elsewhere. 😂

A nice national monument! Surprising they aren’t trying to clean up the pond from whatever dangerous algae is going on 😯- very well preserved

It is surprising. Or maybe they were and it wasn't under control yet? Unsure to be honest. 🤔

Great video, Glenn and Amy. I’m wondering if there was an issue with algae in the water back in the day.

Can't help but feel that there probably wasn't all the time but can't really say. I know that the algae in the Virgin River in Zion National Park tends to change so it is possible this does too.

@@CactusAtlas I found it, great video. Do you do any videos in western Utah? You should come up to Wendover airport on August 26 for the airshow and see the restoration projects on the airfield.

Quit knocking down our history. I love your videos. I must subscriber. But knocking down our history is a reason why our country is in shambles. The Indians did a lot to themselves as well read real history.
