More 170 testing please. I'm as curious as you are Joe on what will hold up or fail. Plus, small saws need love too. 😅

I ended up bringing the timing back a bit on mine, seemed to take away rpm but add torque. Mine is also the older style 170 though.

Rock, on with that little wood cutting machine. Give it an alcohol carb and some pipe and see if you get it into the 5.5 range

Well done Joe, I still find it hard to believe that the stock saw made the most amount of torque. HP gains were definitely impressive. Thanks for sharing.

It made the most TQ but it was under 8000rpm in a range that you typically wont cut in.

Like these dyno sessions trying different things then putting them to the wood. That 170 is holding on well for turning those kind of numbers.

@@dynojoemods2764 Have you ever done a test with different fuels? Chickanic did a video on different store bought fuels and some kind of hurt performance and wouldn’t make the rpm of others. If you haven’t would you make a video please?

When I go wide open throttle on my 272 it fourstrokes just like it should but after a second it starts cleaning up and then revs higher until I let go of the throttle because I'm afraid it'll blow up. To me this sounds like a vacuum leak that causes a lean condition but that mfr DOES NOT LEAK! I have pressure/vac tested it to some crazy values and its airtight. This is tested with 2 different carbs.

I’ve been led to believe that 2 cycles always run better with a like back pressure in the muffler

Pressing back the fresh air mixture that escaped from exhaust opening with a resonant pipe can give 50%more power.. Like using a turbo

@@dynojoemods2764 Running a pipe should be fine for the engine, right? I’ve heard it’s not good to run ported saws milling because of they can run too hot under a constant load? Could a pipe help a stock saw run cooler? Would a gasket delete with stock port-timing numbers and ignition timing advance be okay with a pipe on a milling saw?
@PurpleNovember
@PurpleNovember 9 ай бұрын
@@scottallpress3818 That’s exactly what I was thinking. I’m also wondering if a stock saw would run a little cooler, maybe enough to get away with a gasket delete and timing advance.
