Hello Austin, I realize this video of yours is a couple years old, but wanted to ask a few questions. 1. Do engine generator driven weld machines typically have a more stable output arc, than say a single split phase machine one would use in their home garage with 240 Vac? I’m aware that 3 phase machines have a smoother input voltage to power the machine. 2. What is your favorite brand 6010 electrode and favorite 7018? 3. Do you favor welding with DC + (Rev) or DC - (Straight) output polarity to the rod, or AC, and why do you favor one over another? Keep up the awesome work sharing your tips/tricks with all of those interested in welding. Your calm/cool friendly demeanor is most refreshing and makes your channel enjoyable to watch. ✌️😎👍

Make sure you get connections for a job before you start, ask your instructors if they have any places you could start. I didn’t do this and went almost 6 months without a job, almost forgot how to weld and that made it much harder to pass skill tests… good luck out there brother

I'm not a pipeline guy, but I do weld off my truck. I welded a deal for a center pivot. It was 10 inch pipe that they run pig poo water through. 12 welds with elbows and flanges. I replaced the pump on the Cummins engine and had to change the pipes. All went well. The only tests that were done was the smoke test. No leaks. Lol. I now have to replace pipe at the tower. You could be the reason I had no troubles at the pump. Good work.

Something I do sometimes which seems to help a little on fill passes is jab on the puddle a little bit. As always good information.

This is a great video man. I have commented before I do this for a living as well, but I always like too watch your videos too try and get better. I struggle with the same things you talk about here sometimes so this is great too see in particular filling on the bottom with the hot and fill pass in lousy holes with no room haha

I fully agree with you Austin never stop learning about the trade you love ! That is part of the reason I am a industrial maintenance mechanic! Originally by trade I am a heavy equipment operator. When it broke I learned to fix it! Electrical mechanical or structural! Best advice I ever got was if you love it keep an opened mind and learn as much as you possibly can! Then pass on the knowledge learned from experience to those who are willing to learn how to do the job better and more cost effective to their benefit!

A little bit off-topic, but I thought I would ask. Do you have a recommendation for the most bad ass tough black paint to use on a paint fence? I’m looking at different rust converter’s and industrial coatings like chassis paint for frames and farm equipment is there anything better? Thank you

When capping do you go clockwise or counterclockwise? And any idea what the ocvs should be set on a sa 200?
@glennunderwood46902 жыл бұрын
If you're right handed most start on their right and work to their left If you're in a position to allow for it. You can also hold the stinger in your left hand and guide it with your right. What ever works for you...

Filling I would turn the heat up tip the rod back and whip the top and drag the rod down the side using arc blow to keep the melt up always looking at the metal tying into the bevel . You are filling at optimal when you can hear a slight chatter . Careful you can flood out . Fill to no more than flush or you will have trouble capping. always weld as narrow as possible but catching the bevel . Uniformity is key

I love it! Thank you for sharing! I love hearing from guys like yourself that have essentially a lifetime worth of experience. It’s so amazing to me to hear all the different ways people weld.

I've done alot of smaller distribution line, on 3 inch and smaller you really gotta drop your shoulder and wrist almost immediately after striking up maybe 1 inch after start up, move quick, break off the Flux halfway down if need be until you get used to the roll. Rod angle is key as soon as you get past 2 o'clock your rod should be pointing close to the 1 o'clock on opposite side. On the sides short and fast whips work best for me, then longer and a little pause on the bottom. I hot pass with a 3/32 and stay a little less than flush and cap with 1/8 burning low and going slow. Hope it helps

I just turn it up and send it whip motion. The heat helps widen the puddle leave it alittle under flush so your not screwing yourselves on the cap. Running cold you'll stack more metal but I can't stand moving that slow.
