I recently took a few pipes to my local priest/spiritual director (who is deeply admirable) to be blessed. I was expecting a possible correction that it isn’t appropriate, but instead he ended up taking me over to his workshop and giving me multiples estate pipes, a 50’s Japanese tamper, and a giant display. It was an experience I’ll always be grateful for…

Been smoking pipes since 2020. I’ve only just now dabbled in cigars and just a couple minutes into your video I agree 100%. My pipes are not social for me. And while a pipe doesn’t take much thought for me anymore to keep it going anymore, once I’m talking, it always goes out whereas a cigar definitely feels more social. Great video so far.

Love both of them. I pop the last bit of my Churchills into my pipe to finish it off perfectly. Matt sniffing the 'Three Nuns' and saying 'raisins' could have been comedic gold. I immediately went for my 'Three Nones'. 😆 Then that bit about self-pleasuring and delightful tool with resting your hand... 😂 Thank goodness I was watching this, not just listening on podcasts. Yup. Always invest in a good pipe tool. Mine has been with me since 1987.

@daniele.3361 Wow, you must be a blast at parties. You can be a doomer about anything. Eating meat raises your risk of various cancers. Being overweight raises your risk of virtually every bad health condition. Working a sedentary office job makes you vastly more likely to get various diseases versus if you were a mailman or something active. Any amount of sunlight increases skin cancer risk and ages your skin. Sitting by a campfire increases your risk of various cancers. Etc etc. If you want to try to live a perfectly "healthy" life, then you can sit in a bubble and eat nothing but microgreens for the rest of your life. You are not going to do that. You are not living a perfectly healthy life. There are a practically infinite number of things you could do to reduce your risk of various bad outcomes, which you aren't doing, which we could shame you for if we wanted to. Everyone has to do a risk/benefit analysis of the things they do.

Been smoking pipes for 3 yrs now but its only been the last 6 months ive really gotten into trying many different tobaccos. Its wonderful. Every tobacco has its *thing. Some can be smoked fast and heavy and stay pleasant(black cordial). Mostly those with cavendish. Some require a very light slow puff and slow smoke to stay pleasant(Autumn evening). Some are just smooth and tasty no matter how you pack and smoke(1Q). The english blends are shocking at first and taste if leather, bbq and beef jerky but if given a chance are indeed pleasant and delightful. Some are just brutal no matter how you smoke(burleys). Just my opinions but thats the beauty. Its zen upkeeping my pipes and fun trying nee pipes and blends. Great episode here Pints…..

1:16 Women DO like the smell of pipes. I have a tobacco that will intrigue ANY woman that i buy from pipes and cigars. Its called frosty chocolate mint. Its a menthol with a chocolate smell. It smells amazing in the house and my girl loves it especially at a night cap and i have a smoke and then brush my teeth and dive into bed with her. She say's i remind her of her grandfather of which i appreciate because he was such an incredible man. I'm a young 44 yr old. But whenever i have it, it gives me such a wise man's smell, if that makes any sense. She always says it makes her feel safe and secure when we cuddle. All i know is that its a bit healthier than smoking my ghetto Newports in the hood. People tend to make fun of me sometimes because i smoke a pipe. But its those same motherfuckers who can't walk away after smelling such a sweet chocolate mint smell. All i need now is a proper cologne to go with it. Something woody and sexy. I wished i would'a got into pipes earlier. But to be honest, i wanna quit completely. But i'm satisfied for now with this better health choice until i completely quit alltogether. My boss popped into my office the other day and asked me if i smoked a pipe. I told him yes. He never replied. But he wasn't mad either. But i know when a white man like "chocolate" - LOL. Not "me" lol. I mean the minty chocolate flavor. 😅

I attended Mars Hill Church in Seattle for several years, abandoning it about a year before it collapsed. Mars Hill - like Matt Fradd, Pints with Aquinas and most of its guests - was big on dude-bro culture. It taught that Jesus was a blue-collar carpenter: a rough and tumble guy. Jesus was a man's man. Said Mark Driscoll, Mars Hill's charismatic lead pastor, "The problem with the church today, is it’s just a bunch of nice, soft, tender, chick-ified church boys." He also noted that “sixty percent of Christians are chicks and the forty percent that are dudes are still chicks.” Mars Hill had pub crawls. Just like Matt Fradd and company, the pastors and parishioners got together and smoked cigars and pipes. They drank beer and swilled whiskey. They were MEN. And, they wanted everyone to know that this is the way MEN ought to behave because Jesus was no p***y. If Jesus were among us today, Mars Hill taught, he'd be there hangin' with the bro's, pounding shots in his steel-toed work boots, watching the MMA fight. I suppose some of all of the above is okay in moderation. But at Mars Hill and what I pick up from Matt Fradd is that there is excess focus on the idea of a hyper-masculine Jesus. It's as if Matt and Friends are attempting to refashion God into a sh**-kicking, gender-complementing idol of their own design. I can't quite put my finger on it, but something seems so forced, so false and so preachy about the way Matt and Friends are going about their attempt to Bro Joganize the men of the Catholic Church. It reminds me A LOT of Mars Hill in the months leading up to its implosion.
@johnbinford6706 Жыл бұрын
Understandable concern but I don't get the same vibe from Fradd. Driscoll, James MacDonald, and similar characters are positively toxic, manipulative, domineering people and there's plenty of testimony about it. Fradd strikes me as more classy - more interested in Chesterton and Lewis than MMA, motorcycles, and other things which are often just used for "performative masculinity".
