Use a different color in bobbin on first time around then your 2nd time around go back to your color your using same as top and follow the basting stitch

Would this be for the first example in place of DST? That sounds like the way I used to do it only without changing bobbin colors! Good idea!.

Fab! ❤️👌👍I made a small bag recently utilising heavy duty piping from a sports bag, it turned out very good! Especially compared to the back of the bag where I made my own piping. I had to apply the piping by hand which wasn't easy but I didn't have a industrial sewing machine and there were perforations in the piping which made it susceptible to falling apart if I'd sewed it by machine. Yes definitely be attempting to make my own after watching this video. I've saved some tiny electrical cord so may see if that works! (Perhaps I will need to apply it by hand). I once used rope from the hardware store when I did piping around a cushion but I broke a few sewing machine needles.... 😏 In the end it worked out very well though! 😀 Greetings from NZ 🇳🇿

I don't think anyone here has mentioned staples. You shouldn't get the same bow wave building up in front of the foot as it's more securely anchored using a staple than with DST and clips. If you use a pliers style of stapler you can position the staple really accurately a little away from the stitching line. I find my sewing tweezers remove them very nicely.

I've found that once you've clipped your panel to the gusset, starting to sew in the centre of the bottom, rather than at the top of one side, reduces the amount of stretch in the vinyl Then just turn your work and do the same for the other half of the bag. ;)
@SandcastleDesigns

What size cording foot do you use? I see that Amazon has a variety for my Juki 1181n. They range from 1/8, 3/16, 1/4, 3/8.
@SandcastleDesigns
@SandcastleDesigns 3 жыл бұрын
I'm using a 1/4" for my 1.8mm cording here. I find that the vinyl blows out the foot size altogether. You cannot judge the foot size by your cording size due to the thickness of the material. This is why I love this cording. For pillows I have had to use zipper feet because I like thick cording with upholstery fabric.

Do you cut your vinyl on the bias for bags with curves???
@SandcastleDesigns
@SandcastleDesigns 2 жыл бұрын
Vinyl is PVC or poly vinyl chloride it is not a woven fabric so it does not have a grain. The only bias would be on the backing if there is a woven backing. My simple answer is no. Most of my vinyl is felt backing and upholstery grade there is no bias to it. I cut my vinyl according to the pattern on the right side.

I have a domestic machine and I use double stick tape all the time. I don’t know why you would think that somebody with a domestic machine would use it any less than someone with an industrial machine.
@SandcastleDesigns
@SandcastleDesigns 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your informative comment! Many of us who own domestics have issues of DST gumming up the needle. I think you have figured out the trick of placement! You are a smart woman! I personally use it all the time domestic or otherwise. Placement is key...I appreciate your comment!
@LuvMyCardiKids
@LuvMyCardiKids 3 жыл бұрын
@@SandcastleDesigns The placement isn’t any different on a domestic than when using an industrial. You just place it so it’s not going to be within the stitching line. The problem isn’t one of industrial versus domestic. It’s simply a matter of placing the tape where you won’t be sewing. That’s the same on an industrial as the needle will get gummy on either machine if you sew through the tape.
@SandcastleDesigns
@SandcastleDesigns 3 жыл бұрын
