Coming from the 3d printing/tabletop model/gaming communities, Kickstarters have been really great, allowing small creators to sell products they would never have been able to make otherwise, but those are almost always already completed projects raising money to produce and distribute their models, rather than concepts that havent even begun to exist. A lot have stretch goals that haven't been modeled yet, but at the very least you know youre getting the models you wanted. The funding a project before its started idea just feels like a recipe to get scammed every time

I remember years and years ago there was a campfire generator, think it was JikoPower but I can't find the original video (similar to biolite which markets as a camping generator), that put up a kickstarter and everyone on reddit was falling for the spiel about "this will help kids in africa because it allows the fuel to burn more efficiently and not have the fumes go into their homes, also this can generate electricity through a USB to charge their phones." And everyone mass downvoted me for saying back in 2010 or whenever that I think the first problem could just be solved by installing a chimney and the second is probably not a priority if they are so destitute that they are burning trash to survive.

32:16 game devs used to care because they used to be the actual gamers. in the earliest days the only way to be a dev was mostly independant and so games were passion projects by people who were making ames for people like thenselves. that developed in to the ganer scene of the 90s and 2000s but by 2005, game dev was a legit corpo job hoised primarily by people who just wanted a job. not passion projects for people interested in the culture.

When it comes to Consoles I think Switch has the best overall library of games. I really like both Hyrule Warriors games. BotW and TotK are great. The 3D and 2D Mario games. Where my bias is at here is Single player only or focused. Nintendo still does that well.

I have to say I love the switch, still play on it a bunch. Xenoblade Chronicles 1, 2, 3 got each well over 100 hours from it. Hades, ender lilies, bloodstained, hollow knight, binding of isaac, etc., played a bunch of rogue-likes/metroidvanias on it that I like to re-visit. There's also a lot of great strategy and tactical games on it, like unicorn overlord, 13 sentinel, GrimGrimoire, fire emblem 3 houses, engage (had to start playing engage muted and skip the cut scenes, but the gameplay is amazing), mechanicus, triangle strategy, diofield chronicles, I could go on and on, got a lot out of it already and there still are games I want to play on it. Add that to the fact that it is a handheld, so I can squeeze in some gameplay between work, renovating/taking care of the house and garden, taking care of wife&kid, it's amazing. The switch and steam deck have been my go-to gaming devices for the past couple of years. When the switch 2 comes out and it's not fucked in some major way, I will buy it for sure.

Still got my ouya... It is just collecting dust... Damn big scam, but well i knew as soon as i backed it the money was gone... That is the thing with kickstarter expect nothing because you will be disappointed.. Though will say have gotten som great stuff from kickstarters... But also alot of scams
