Total agreement , this year the race is annoying , too much guided by electronics informations , no real surprises . I think , the next one in 4 years will be managed and following all the AI instructions and automatic driving. Sailors will be there to change and repair the sails and materials .

I'm confused ! I just looked out into Port Phillip bay from our balcony and noticed a big bright orange something connected to a boat - out along the shipping channel . At a distance it could have been a boat in trouble letting go a flare , so I grabbed the binoculars , and to my amazement it is a jury -rigged yacht with an orange foresail and a black tri-sail ! It can only be Pip ! She has just rounded the Hovell Light in the South Channel and is headed north to Melbourne with support vessel close by . She only has about 38 miles to go on a pretty calm bay .It's just after 10.30 am. on the morning of the 28th Dec What a journey . Congratulations Pip - epic .

Pip, you are my hero for 2024. You were so distraught when that mast came down, I almost cried with you. The way you picked yourself up and made the best of your situation has taught me a lot. I am very thankful I was able to take part in your journey. I wish you all the best best for the future. Warm Regards Stefan from Haiger, Germany

Pip, you are sooooo close, and seeing a ship in the background gives comfort that you're no longer out there alone. This has been an incredible journey, and I'd like to give you heartfelt thanks that you've included us all in your journey. You may not have achieved your dream of completing the 2024 Vondee, but I think you've achieved more through your slow boat journey than you ever would have by completing the Vondee. You're a legend, and I don't believe the challenges in front of you are anything compared to the challenges you've faced over the last few days. Kia kaha.

I do not know you and you do not know me but I cannot say how much I admire you and not just your determination but also your personality and how on occasion you let the mask slip. My late Father was on a modest scale an amateur yachts man (he was in the 'lumpy' Fastnet Race as he called it). He had a saying 'that if you fall over the side there is no point in swimming half way to shore.' I know what he meant is as you describe your journey that this is just an episode and much like Kiplings poem 'If.' I did not know of your book and will give to self as a late present. Safe sailing.

Pip, As legends go, you are the real deal. There can't be many people who have sailed 800 nautical miles from the Southern Ocean to Australia under a jury rig - and shared your journey with daily Slow Boat updates. Whilst you lost the chance to finish this Vendee Globe Race, what you have achieved instead is worldwide acclaim for your resourcefulness, dogged determination, seamanship and humour in such a dire situation. You are an inspiration to us all.

I followed you from the start of the race. From the very first stages I was struck by how you kept going, always on the attack keeping pace with the strongest, the almost mast races with Attanasio and Dutreux. Then, since you dismasted, the race has taken a back seat for me. Every 4 hours I waited for the tracker updates to follow your progress and I eagerly awaited the reports from the slow boat. You are a really nice person. I am happy and grateful to have been able to meet you. Thank you

Thank you so much for all the episodes - they’ve been incredibly helpful and exciting! Your strength, openness, and willingness to share your feelings in navigating such challenging situations have been truly inspiring. To me, as someone who has never sailed before - a German teacher and psychologist far from any ocean, someone who is already terrified of being on a boat during a thunderstorm on a lake, such a situation would be pure horror and more comparable to books like Life of Pi - but you turned it into a true adventure. Through your stories, I’ve learned so much about sailing and even more about life. Thank you for sharing your journey with us! I keep my fingers crossed for you for the Vendée Globe 2028 and I’ll definitely remain a fan!
