Holy Tony award winning performance! Massively impressive. She stops the show cold several times.

The best part about this being such a literal showstopper (aside from the fact that Martin more than deserved EVERY SINGLE OUNCE OF PRAISE she got throughout her run) is that it plays right into the vision for this revival, of a cult that's obsessed with attaining a perfect performance. In-show, an old veteran like her is of course one of the most adept into charming an audience into lauding her every move. It's so devioisly brilliant.

She stopped the show just about every night multiple times!!! Gosh what a wonderful talent! I love Andrea Martin!!!

ICONIC! I remember seeing this! She got 3 of 4 standing ovations mid show! Brava!

I saw this show in NYC. Afterwards I actually met Martin as she was leaving the theater. A tourist couple put their iPhone in my hand and asked me to take a picture of the three of them. After asking Martin if it was OK, she just said to make it quick. She then got on her bike and biked home.

I BAWLED MY EYES OUT during this number when I saw it. She is a mighty, mighty force. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

I saw this a few times - once was her last Friday night performance before she left the show. An announcement came just before the show started "At this performance, the role of Bertha will be played by ......... Andrea Martin!" Huge laughs and applause from the audience. Love seeing Ms. Martin.

The woman was 65 when she did this. SIXTY-FIVE!
@SoulShines4U4 жыл бұрын
You say that like 65 is ancient. lol Age is nothing but a number. My next door neighbor is 78 and still takes dance classes and performs in community theatre. She told me she has no intention of stopping at 80 either, she'll continue to dance & perform right up until it becomes physically impossible. Now that's living! lol

I loved this production. And she stopped the show when I saw it, too. Wonderful.

I’d forgotten just how much of a showstopper this was. It is something else.

Beautiful! When I watched the show for the first time with Andrea, the show 'only' stopped after the song finished, when Andrea came back to receive all the cheering and clapping from the audience. It's lovely to see that the audience stopped the show midperformance in this video, such a genuine demonstration of how much they were loving the song!

I love her version and love her-she’s brilliantly funny and surprisingly touching. Thank you Spiderwoman!

THANK YOU for capturing this. This recording is the truest experience I had to watching it in previews. The audience was OBSESSED with her (and NO ONE knew about this number yet). People were crouching out of their seats and nearly standing up with anticipation. First and only standing ovation mid-show I've ever seen on Broadway! Thank you!

I do believe that this was recorded at a preview. Glad it brought back memories.

I saw this back in the summer of 2013 and this stopped the show then as well. I don’t think I fully appreciated just how incredible this was when I was seeing it back then, but I certainly do now. Thank you so much for posting this!

I recently became obsessed with this show during quarantine. Andrea Martin's performance was the best of them all! Do you happen to have the full show by any chance?

Look up Pippin Tour on youtube it has the full show, with these two actors in it
@dylansmith18333 жыл бұрын
@@reubenfuchs2747 actually this is from Broadway. I think it was during previews because Matthew’s hair is darker. I’ve watched the Tour one you’re talking about and his hair was way lighter.

This was absolutely amazing. And there wasn't any kind of net that i can see! I don't remember when I saw it with Tovah if she did the same staging... But also, God that mic on Pippin's face... i just hate it so much. It's so distracting and silly looking. Notice how she doesn't have one like that.

My guess has always been the reason they sat around her in a tight circle was to make sure to catch her if anything went haywire.

I have a great deal of affection for Irene Ryan and Martha Raye, but, damn, the bar has been raised. Just watched Annie Potts in this same production, I imagine, and she does a wonderful job, as well.

With all due respect to Ms. Ryan (RIP), she’d never get on a trapeze.
@jasminderpinder3 жыл бұрын
@@davidthaler7018 You tell it, man! Andrea Martin is the bomb. She has the acting chops and the style, but most importantly of all, she has a heart which to me defines this performance of Berthe. And hell yeah, to do all of that on a trapeze, and even sing upside down..at age 66 is beyond incredible. She deserved that Tony every single bit.
@howardgofstein96943 жыл бұрын
i wonder what she got paid for doing just this one scene
@auroraspiderwoman58863 жыл бұрын
She did appear elsewhere in the show; she was in the opening number, for example.

In the original Broadway production of Pippin Irene Ryan was only in this one scene.
