Can any of you please assist? How was the cage of the Iphone put on to the gimbal? I have the 5s and the cage does not fit ... the carriage doesn't open enough to fit iphone with cage as seen/demo in the video. Thank you both in advance.

@@jzaccoustics1984 you need to push/force it a little bit. The smallrig cage pushes the opening tight up to the max. Trust me, it won’t break it, you’ll feel it is stretching it to the max, that’s all. That’s why I say in the video I recommend a thinner case/cage for long term use…

Thanks for the feedback. Hi Elliot. I hardly ever record on the phone itself. I stick a lapel mic to my clothing or chest, under the clothing using ursa foamies amzn.to/3WTBzom. I us emedical tape so the skin doesnl;t get irritated. I then record onto a Zoom H1N recorder and sync easily in post in davinci resolve. I use the guide trackl recorded on the phone for Resolve to do automatic audio syncing. I mhope this makes sense

Holy Crap! I must commend all the efforts you put into this video. This is really an amazing and enlightenment on this gimbal. I was just smiling while watching. Earlier today, I was looking for a KZbin video to explain the use of a gimbal. I saw some videos but they explained in a language I couldn't understand. With love from Nigeria. Amazing video - which you said 8 times. I really enjoy your reviews and find them very helpful in choosing products. For me, I love having two smartphone gimbals. I have the Smooth 5 for larger payloads. It's great to be able to use an ND filter without worry. When I don't need the ND or want to film myself, I love the Hohem Isteady V2. It has three really useful features that the Zhiyun doesn't have. 1. The tracking sensor works with any app. 2. Tracking can be adjusted so your face is not always in the middle of the frame. 3. It's one button push to switch from horizontal to vertical mode. It's also super light and fits in a pocket. So, with these two gimbals, you have all your bases covered. Would love to win the 5S for the integrated light.

Hi Samuel - another one from Down Under here in Australia. After 8 'amazings' and an excellent (amazingly excellent) review, the one thing that impressed me particularly in this video is the bit from about 10'20" that shows other people taking photos or taking video footage of the lovely location - by just holding the phone (in vertical format - ughh! I hate vertical format). But your footage showing them was done using the gimbal with the crane-style shot, and packed way more impact and was much more cinematic in showing the lovely location. The other peoples' footage would have looked amateurish, while your footage done with the gimbal looked professional. Amazing! ;)

I like how your opinion and judgment changes for one and the same feature when talking about: 1. DJI - it is a waste (fullstop). 2. Zhiyun - it is better to have it than not have it. :) Watched the two reviews because I was curious to learn about the differences. Thanks for your feedback. In muy opinion, every review, if honest, has to call things for what they are, not how you want them to be or someone else wants/pay you to say. I do prefer this gimbal to the DJI OM6, any day, any time..... But I do believe I am fairly neutral in general, but when something feels exciting it is impossible to remain straight-faced. What I would hate is to sell out and promote and propose for people to buy a product or equipment I wouldn't use myself. I do believe honesty and integrity goes a long way these days.... Cheers!!!

@@SamuelSotiega I’m wondering the mini 2 is $420 plus tax Canadian and the mini 3 pro with RC is about $1350 plus taxes etc Non RC is about 850 but I want to ask you is the mini 2 still a good place to enter the drone market or just save up for the min 3 pro or is it worth the extra $1000 because that could be another camera or gimbal etc, just wondering what the cost of settling will be because I know that I won’t need to upgrade from the mini 3 pro but maybe I can get a air 2s for the same money ? Great video Samual. As Small youtuber hobbiest I was looking for gimbals to help me record videos while I travel. I have one question. Is it possible to use this gimbals, with external microphone? Looking at it in horizontal mode (for example 10:09) I see that the "arm" is blocking phones lighting port. Edit: I am using SHURE MV88+ microphone with my iphone

If you plan to use a phone with a mic, specially the one you say which looks to me sort of medium size and a bit bulky, i don't know if this is the right fit. Because the side of the phone where the port is needs to be mounted right up to the side of the gimbal, hence blocking it. If you make space for it, unless you have a extra slim right angle cable for your phone, means the phone protudes a bit too much to the side. I would consider a zhiyun crane M3 or feiyutech G6 Max. I have videos about them. That way you can mont the phone upside down (lenses down rather than up) and have the side o the port clear. Does this make sense?

I have question for you .Using iphone outside we have to Wear Nd filter for too much sun .Same filter should help with reflections which are very annoying . How about same with Samsung and latest SONY experia 1 V .Cheers

The r same issues will apply, regardless of the phone or camera. This is not tech related but principles of photography and video. You also need to use ND filters with high end cameras and lenses. The only way not to use them is if the camera has them built-in so you dial them up or down as needed. But that is not the case on smartphones so if you want to stick to the 180 degree rule, you will need ND filters. El smooth 5S es gimbal bastante bueno, de hecho me ha sorprendido por el peso que puede soportar. Eso no lo esperaba. 8 Amazings! Thanks for the excellent review. I need a new gimbal as my old DJI Osmo 2 does so much more movement than my OM3 I bought to replace it in 2020 which was a real disappointment. Loving the range of movement on the Smooth 5S, no it's not perfect, but it very close to meeting my needs. If only it was more transportable/foldable, like the DJI options then that would be amazing.

I'm curious about the small rig cage have you tried the 13 pro max with moment lenses ? I wanted to ask because I want to see if I should get the max size or just stick with the pro but if it can handle the pro max size with lens or filters then I'll be happy to get the max size :D otherwise ill stick to the pro size :D

the difference in weight is around 80g between pro and pro max, so I'm curious if you had a hard time balancing and will 80g make a difference, or you were happy with the performance with lenses and 13 pro max + cage because ill go for the max then :D

I didn’t experienced any issues with the 13 pro max, smallrig case and lens and filters. It was pretty insane actually. But you need to decide on the phone based on its capabilities…

I use sandmac lenses which are thread mount, not bayonet. Smallrig case comes default with bayonet mount and you can then buy a thread mount element. You basically unscrew the bayonet lens mount section and attach the thread mount section and you’re good to go…

To be honest with you, I have never used it myself, so I can't really give you an opinion. But I do believe it is something to do with the premium app StaCam, although i might be wrong...

Hey Samuel. Great video as usual. I have a question though. I have tried to mount my iPhone 13 Pro Max with the Smallrig case but I can’t get the mount to open wide enough to take the Smallrig case without forcing it, which I do t want to do. Since they should have the same dimensions, how did you get the Smallrig to mount on the 5S? Or maybe I’m missing something. Thanks Rob

There was a little bit of additional force to fit it in, but nothing that made me feel I was damaging it. But yes, it was at its limit, for sure…

I did that to illustrate it can take it but I would do that if I want to do a quick shot between gimbal and tripod/handheld. If, and this is my opinion, I plan to use the phone on gimbal all day, I would feel it would be more comfortable with a lighter smaller case. But you do your own testing and se what works for you!! 👍👍

I need this for a Pixel 7 with a wide angle lens attached to record vertical content. Setup together weighs about 297g. Do you think this setup will balance well in the vertical/portrait configuration and consistently on this Zhiyun Smooth 5? And do you need to use any counterweights with this one? I liked the video and subscribed to your channel. Thanks for the great review. I just went to purchase this Zhiyun. Hopefully this works out for me!

For that weight I am 100% sure that with the smooth 5S you won’t need counterweights. I really hope you get to enjoy it! It was a good decision..

Fantastic information Samual on the Smooth 5S!! This gimbal has some great features I like over my Crane M3 such as; I like the size of the built in light, vertical flip and tracking feature. Although, I definateily feel the way you do in regards to tracking.... To bad it doesn't offer a preset L/R of the frame. There are times that both my wife and I are in the shot, not sure how that would frame up??? Flipping vertical wouldn't be that important for me but, it's a nice feature if I wanted it on occasion. As for the bad.... I believe that narrow LCD strip is the biggest downfall, I'm so used to my nice LCD on my M3. Zooming should be smooth, with slow to mid-range variable. After all it's called (Smooth 5S) 🤔 I.M.O., zooming should be done in post unless it's something you need to get out right away. Other than that, I think the Smooth 5S is an amazing gimbal 2'nd to my Crane M3. Speaking about amazing..... You stated it 8 times in your video. You need to have bluetooth enabled as that is how the app “links” to the phone. Let me know if you got that sorted…
