The Dutchman Always Needs A Captain, The One Curse That Cannot Be Broken. Davy Jones Is Back!

Because its not really a curse. Its kinda like one of the world's obligatory things. Like an element of it, that must be there. The writers just screwed up, since now there are a couple unanswered questions. Like what happens to Will's heart now? What happened to the Dutchman? How is Davy Jones back suddenly? You could say they could write their way out in another movie, but these are basically plotholes, as the dutchman isnt a curse, its more like the ferry to the underworld in greek mythology. and one must be the ferryman. (Also, Jones is still... well... tentacl-y, so is he still under it, somehow after Will dropped it? and how can he step on land again? is the 10 year cooldown active?)

@@DarthRushy I don't think that Jack and Bootstrap were really friends, acquaintances maybe, they clearly knew each other well, Bootstrap was member of his crew and fellow in the pirate trade, but they didn't seem very close, maybe Bootstrap liked Jack because he stood up for him during Barbossa's mutiny, but that seems to be it.

@@DarthRushy well they certainly sailed together for a few years, Bootstrap served on his ship on the Black Pearl when Jack was captain, so naturally he would compare the son to him as the two look alike somewhat (even Pintel and Ragetti remark on this in Curse of the Black Pearl), but in the end Bootstrap took some part in mutiny (he actually apologizes Jack in Dead Man's Chest when Davy Jones send him to warn Jack, he explicitly says "I'm sorry about the part I played in the mutiny against you Jack" he clearly felt guilty, he possibly took part in it along with the rest of the crew only because of self preservation but who knows, Bootstrap in the end was a bit more decent man as far as pirates go, he was most likely a simple man who took his chance for gaining something for himself and so became a pirate) only that he defended Jack against the treatment Barbossa would inflict on him and opposed marooning him on that island and saying it's against he code. But that's as far as we get about their personal relationship, it's not particularly weird that members of the crew would know each other and rely on each other, some bond between them would be formed, but not necessarily friendship, there seems to little of true friendships among pirates :), they are comrades, brothers-in-arms but not always need to especially close to each other (besides Bootstrap was in service though we don't know his rank, and Jack was a captain).

Davy Jones is played by Bill Nighy who plays also Rufus Scrimgeour in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1 (the new minister of magic after Fudge who gives the will of Dumbledore to Harry Ron and Hermione). But there is no other common actor between these two series of films

I literally just finished this film and I'm so impressed by it. Kinda devastated they're rebooting Pirates instead of giving us a full Turney family affair in #6. That Davy Jones cameo in the credits scene is rendered pointless.

The only one that could is full goddess now and she explained why she could bring back Barbossa and not Jack(which is why they had to go get him). They didnt exactly die, Governor Swann was dead dead, they were only sorta dead. He died at sea and the only thing that could bring him back was destroyed in this movie, so I think he is dead dead

I don't know, they were in the Locker. According to myth and what I know about it is that's where you go when you're dead (a death at sea). Dead dead. So we can assume Barbossa and crew really were dead at that point. It's different though because 1st time Barbossa died he didn't go to the Locker because by myth logic he didn't die at sea but in a cave, by movie logic he didn't have a dept with Davy. 2nd time he died he went straight to the Locker because he did die at sea (at worl'ds end!). It's a bit ambigious and the movie doesn't really explain it well. I dont'really understand the rules of this world very well. Maybe someone else does and can explain it.

Because that would be interfering and not doing his duty. He swore he'd do what he was meant to do as Captain of the Flying Dutchman and ferry the souls of the dead to the afterlife because he knew if he did he would eventually be allowed back on land again. Jones neglected his duties and as such was never able to walk on land again.

I still enjoy the POTC movies but I’ll say that 4 and 5 feel lesser compared to the first 3. Because here’s the thing… Jack has far less agency in 4 and 5, the 5th retcons his pirate start in 3, (and the young adult novelization to those that remembered) and it gives a curse to the compass that should’ve gone off a dozen times in all the prior movies. Curse of the Black Pearl: Jack’s goal and agency was directed to wanting his ship back (the Black Pearl) and to shoot his mutinous first mate Barbossa in the heart. These are what Jack wants most. Dead man’s Chest: this is the most ambitious “I want” movie of all time I’ve ever seen. Jack’s desire here is to find Davy Jones heart to bargain with the sea scorned captain of the Dutchman to both save his own life and keep the Black Pearl afloat. At worlds end: Jack wants to wage war and win against Beckett to earn freedom on the seas for all pirates with a secondary goal of killing Davy Jones so that he could become an immortal pirates that holds adventure on the 7 seas. On stranger tides: Jack has zero interest in the fountain and was taken against his will on this roller coaster. We think his motivation is going to be saving the Pearl from being trapped in a bottle but Jack doesn’t go with Gibbs. Instead he followed Blackbeard to the fountain when the only other tool they had to manipulate him (the voodoo doll) was thrown off the edge. Dead men tell no tales: outside the fact Jack just happened to be there and there was a contrived curse to his compass that never went off until now, Jack has literally no reason to be here except status quo.
