Even the best speakers can't convey the absolute *force* that an organ like this can push. Until you're in the presence of someone playing one of these things in person, you really don't understand the sheer magnitude of musical power that these things can express. In the right hands, they're absolutely stupefying. I'd love to hear this song played on a big organ like this someday. The person in the video plays it quite well.

You are so right. For those who have not experienced a pipe organ live and preferably in a good acoustical space, do yourself a favor and find a concert. These are amazing instruments and need to be felt. There is also a big difference between a concert organ, like this one and a theater style organ. Both are amazing and need to be experienced.

when you have experience with playing the piano it isnt that hard. For me the challanging part of learning the organ was that you have a whole different style of playing and feeling. No matter how hard you press a key the sound still stays loud and it depends on the different registers if you have to press a key hard or soft to make a sound. But all in all its a really nice experience and playing or hearing the organ is very much underrated :D

I would say 90% of the the time simultaneously, if a church or any building is going to have an organ, u need to make sure they'll work together, especially since the building is literally the instrument I'm not kidding the pipes u see are only the tip of the iceberg in most cases. Theres usually more in the walls
@DMphobia2 жыл бұрын
Older styled organs generally had to be implanted in the church while it's foundation was being laid, since at that time they were such massive instruments that could be heard throughout an entire town, required two men to play, and seventy men to provide the necessary airflow with blowers. That said, churches were often DESIGNED and the foundations laid before or during the organ's manufacture, as you can't just throw in a massive pipe organ into a tiny cathedral and expect it to fit or resonate properly. Nowadays, with standardized parts, cheap materials and fast automated production lines, Organs are much more quickly built and most conform to a single 'one-size-fits-all' design philosophy for churches to build around.

My favorite part about this particular piece is that you can feel the stages of Grief in the song, like at the beginning it's slow, Denial and then you get the middle part which sounds furious, you can feel Davy Jones's anger at Calypso's betrayal, near the end I can feel a bit of Bargaining, and then the last part is Depression and Acceptance. It's just so beautifully played and being played on an organ like this just makes it feel alive. You can feel the emotions Davy Jones has had to face for a long time. He was a good man who became evil, and like Nicolas Cage said in National Treasure, there is a debt that all men pay, and Jones paid it. Shame we won't know what happens after Dead men tell no tales thanks to Disney.

TheExplodingChipmunk That's because most church music involves the congregation singing along. If the organ played to its full potential it would drown out the congregation. I really like Davy Jones's theme it's one of my all time favorites.... My friend is a church organist and I'm an old sailor. I like to sit and listen to him practice in church, and one time we talked about playing Davy Jones's theme. But then as he got ready to try and play it I saw all the model ships hanging in church. Models of real ships that have been hung there to bless the sailors and their ships.... So I said to him that maybe we shouldn't you know because of the ships hanging there. Some think this is childish when I tell this but you see, you might be an unbeliever when your ship leaves port but I promise you that you will be a believer when that ship returns you to port. Even the heartiest of unbelievers will fall to their knee when the waves and winds start to churn the ship so violently that the cargo, even though strapped down tight, will lift from the deck and then slam back in to it making the ship shudder and sound like the bells of hell are tolling for you.

Making the whole ship toll like the bells of hell itself. On the ocean the ship is your whole world and without it you're dead and the oceans are vast, mean and angry. Sometimes I think it's hard to really appreciate music and the arts. Like, try to imagine living in the 1700s. You're a poor farmer, and you just ventured in to the local town to sell some of the harvest, for the first time in months. Apart from the occasional poorly sung song, you haven't heard music proper at all this year. I think the clunking, chugging, and little bits of creaking you can hear in the background just adds to the atmosphere. Really makes it come together.

Im not kidding when I say I legitimately got goosebumps from this. Absolutely stunning, remarkable, and every other word. There's truly a lack of words in the immense English lexicon to describe how amazing this was.

Ok, to make it more perfect, room has to be darker, with creepy blue or green lights, with outside which has raging storm full of lighting. Oh and the musician has to wear some kind of hooded cloak.

I wonder how on earth the churches managed to get the idea that they should have an absolutely massive pipe-instrument in their churches. I get why they KEPT it - it's huge and has an unique sound so that people get a sense of witnessing something other-worldly that they won't hear other places, but how and who on earth managed to get the idea in the first place?
@KingdaToro6 жыл бұрын
For hundreds of years it was the only way to fill large spaces with sound. This was true up until the Great Depression, and in fact the largest organ in the world was built to fill the largest enclosed space in the world at the time, Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.

It was originally designed to support or replace choirs, thats why some notes sound almost human. They mimic human vocal chords.

@@starchip08 They mimic everything from wood, to brass, and string instruments.. It's essentially a way to replace entire orchestras and add to the voices of the choir.

Imagine walking into this church, and this starts to play and the preacher comes out on one leg and shouts.. "300 years of service in the church.. as a start!"

Pipe organ was the perfect instrument for Davy Jones. Well played.
