I love how when Jack discusses the drawing of the key to the crew, he is making sense. He doesn't have the key, so he can't open the chest, and there is no sense in searching for it. The key is however with Jones, to whom Jack owes a debt of 100years serving on the Flying Dutchman, so it makes no sense for him to go after the key. What he needs is someone esle to find the key for him, then to find the chest, after which he can free himself from the debt.

Ahhhh I got the first part because it doesn’t make sense to search for something you can’t open, but I never got why Jack didn’t say they were going after the key, which is what ended up happening. I guess it’s because I didn’t realize that Jack already knew Jones held the key. It was because Jack COULDN’T be the one going after the key HIMSELF. He needed someone else, who ended up being Will, which makes so much more sense now.
