WOW! Having had a chronic ass pain for over a year, and trying different sorts of physio therapy for problems that no one could properly diagnose, I came across this video and decided to see if it would help me. Not having enough pressure in my thumbs I decided to lie on the floor with my full body weight on an egg-shaped stone for half an hour. Honestly I still can't believe that something so simple would help, but it did. The pain just disappeared, and I could walk normally again without limping! It actually felt like walking on cloud nine! This all happened nearly a year ago and the pain has not returned. Thank you so much for posting this video. People say that somebody 'saved my life', but honestly the pain I had was indescribable and is no more, and this video has absolutely saved my life! Bless you! :)

She has so much flexibility already. If he tried that with me I'd scream in pain from the start. I've lived with back pain for 30 years, and I have a lot of nerve pain down into my feet (which are also numb and it's hard to move my toes). So everyone is very different. Take it slow and be VERY careful at any chiropractor. I went to a different Chiropractor that took the time to look at my MRI, and he said he couldn't work with me. My condition was too serious and I needed to see a Neurosurgeon. I had to have open back (old style) surgery and my disc was completely torn in the center with a vein flowing blood through the disc (which is extremely dangerous and can kill you if the blood flows to your brain). So again, be careful and not all injuries should be handled by a chiropractor.

I started having pain in my right leg about 1 year ago in the general area you were displaying in the video. I went to my Dr. and all she told me after taking xrays is that I had age related degeneration but she could not specifically tell me where my issue was. So my Dr. sent me to physical therapy. The therapist show me some leg stretches to do with a band, it helped some, but the pain never really went away and she tried a tens machine and that didn't help much either, and I would feel this throbbing pain radiating from my hip down to my ankle. I bought a cane because walking and climbing stairs had gotten very painful, and every night/day, I applied a heating pad to help my leg feel better . No one medically never even mentioned piriformis syndrome to me I actually never heard of it until I start reseaching on youtube and tiktok ,Now about 2 days ago I came across your video and tried sitting on the ball, this ball exercise has help me tremendously I still have some slight sorness in the hip muscle area , but the throbbing pain radiating down my leg is mostly gone. Lastly I posted my leg issues because someone may come accross my story and have the same issue that I am having. I also had a positive biopsy for small fiber neuropathy (same side as Piriformis issue). I’ve had 6 LESIs and 2 Piriformis injections, physical therapy twice. When I use a foam roller It feels like I have a huge knot and it’s crazy painful. Right now the pain in my hip is so severe I have trouble walking at times. Just touching my lower back or hip area is excruciating. I’m willing to try anything to avoid more injections that only provide short term relief and definitely want to avoid surgery at all costs. Hi Haley, if you have actual "piriformis syndrome", which means the sciatic nerve is glued down by adhesion at the piriformis, PT will not help, guaranteed. You'll need this exact treatment to get better. With that said, it's possible you have some variation of a disc problem, which can get better with time and PT.

I've had this and stretching only provides temporary relief Mine was so bad I swore I had a herniated disc until I realized it was just a glute/hip issue Anyone dealing with this get one of those bands that people put around their knees Get a weak one and put it around your knees and then get down on your hands and knees with the side of the band around your stationary leg under the knee and the other slightly above the knee Then all you have to do is raise the leg on the side with the pirformis like a dog peeing on a fire hydrant. Do not lead with your ankle up and knee down, that would be interior rotation which is what we do all the time due to hip weakness. Instead lead with your knee up in the air and your ankle down. Use a light band and do it as many times as you can and then switch to the other side. If your issue actually is pirformis I promise this will help. Stretching and massaging will only temporarily relieve the issue and will actually prolong the issue. The problem is muscle weakness not tightness. Stretching will apply more pressure to the nerve running down your leg. Contraction will stop the irritation.
@drchrisstepienclips3 жыл бұрын
I appreciate the comment. I'd just like to remind people that chronic pain when somene has seen at least 3 docs/therapists without permanent relief is never just one pathology. To say it's just "muscle weakness" or even ADHESION as we treat in the video is a huge overstatement. There's often joint degeneration, systemic inflammation, chronic stress, poor mindset to name a few. And if doing these exercises makes it worse over a couple weeks, pls stop the exercises.

I wish that I could come to see you to get treated like this. It's been over three weeks since I started suffering from this very issue. My sciatic nerve on my right side began to get trapped, but I didn't know why. I'm a very serious cyclist, and I began to suspect that it was a piriformis issue. I went to an osteopath for treatment, and the next day I was almost completely paralyzed and in excruciating pain! I couldn't stand up straight or even walk for three days afterwards! I took Naproxen and iced it daily, and I've been doing as many stretches as I can manage, but the nerve is still getting trapped and pinched and it doesn't feel like it's getting any better. Every time I stand up, I have to rotate/twist my upper body to the right to get it to release. It hurts when I do it, and it actually 'pops' when it releases, but I have to do this constantly. Thanks.

Started doing hip strengthening exercises for that entire region including the piriformis and have noticed some improvement. Still flares up if I've been sitting at my desk for a few hours, or driving in the car for long. Hamstrings do feel tight but dont hurt. Lower back actually feels fine and I've had an MRI on it and theres no issues with my back. I weight train in the gym but gradually the piriformis issues return every few months as I get stronger and I'm forced to take a break. Currently on a mission to resolve this for good. I have Piriformis Syndrome and 2 bulging discs on my L4 L5 S1 region. I am doing physical therapy and my therapist is letting me go in about a week and he gave me a home exercise program and told me eventually i'l start feeling better since i've had this issue for about 6 years. I was doing fine the first couple of weeks and the symptoms came back. I still have piriformis/sciatica symptoms. My neurologist thinks I should just keep doing the exercises and eventually i'll start to get better. I have a desk job so I tend to use my varidesk and walk around a lot and also do the prone press ups 4-6 times a day and nothing is helping. I even have a lumbar support and sciatica support for my chair. I've tried everything under the sun to get rid of the symptoms. At the end of the day, the symptoms increase. Has anyone had a similar issue? I'm looking for relief desperately.

It's possible you're inflamed and will get better with time. But if you haven't had adhesion checked and released, this is what i would do if I were you. The answer, "It'll just get better" is ignoring the most common cause of this type of pain --> adhesion.

@@SunGoddes113 You should do "massage" never at the piriformis muscle. Massage doesn't remove the adhesion. If you're getting relief, it's because you're bringing blood flow to the inflammation, which has value. It just won't get rid of the pathology.

I’m housebound, have no independence, and tried over 40 types of pain relief from hydrotherapy, physio, reiki to neuroleptics, opiates and anti-depressants, I’ve tried, oral morphine, transdermal, sublingual tablets in all different combinations no one could find a “ mechanical” cause that shows up in an image so I’ve been discharged from the pain clinic, physiotherapist, rheumatologist, neurologists, orthopaedic, in the UK alternative treatments are not available on NHS so osteopath is out, chiropractors are out, acupuncture is out, I can’t understand those with a duty of care and under oath to give people some quality of life just dismiss, disregard, ignore the pain we endure 24/7 and if you plead with them don’t leave me like this my experience is discharge no follow up!!!!!! I had to retire age 42 as I was at risk in the environment I worked in plus I couldn’t stand for more than 2 minutes. No, compression is like massage. Adhesion needs to be TENSIONED and pulled apart. If you get it tensioned, the relief will be PERMANENT, not temporary.
@AllenSmithe5 жыл бұрын
@@drchrisstepienclips Could you clarify what you mean by tensioned?
@drchrisstepienclips5 жыл бұрын
@@AllenSmithe Remember high school physics class? A Tension force is what happens when you pull a rubber band apart and snap it. This is what breaks adhesion and most doctors/therapists don't do this. Instead, most doctors/therapists do Compression. Take an elephant and stand them on the rubber band. When the elephant steps off, the rubber band will be intact. Think of most massage or deep manual therapy people do.
@AllenSmithe5 жыл бұрын
@@drchrisstepienclips I understand the general definition of the word tension, however you emphasized it as if it carried a specific meaning. You're engaging the tissue with manual pressure over the adhesion, which to the same degree could be loosey defined as a compression (though compression typically refers to broad contact), then passively extending the tissue through that point of contact. The treatment is more than being "tensioned" no?
@drchrisstepienclips5 жыл бұрын
@@AllenSmithe Hmmmm, interesting. My use of "tension" definitely does have specific meaning. I would disagree with "compression, then passively extending the tissue through that point of contact." This wouldn't do anything to break adhesion. Once the tissue is compressed to the depth of the adhesion, tension is require. Instead of the downward force of compression, a parallel force is made along the fibers of the muscle (or steak) until right before sliding on the skin. THEN, passively extending the tissue through that contact "under tension" will break the adhesion. What you describe is "pin and stretch", which doesn't work. Hope that makes more sense? My mentor, Dr. Brady, has 2 videos of tension on this page: integrativediagnosis.com/manual-adhesion-release-fundamentals/. But I believe he charges $25/month to view them.
@jpmcfluffies94513 жыл бұрын
Oh helllll no, my body would not stretch like that without causing a serious injury. My hips and hamstrings are so tight, something would snap or pop I can guarantee. This may be a great treatment method for someone with flexibility in that region but this would absolutely put me in the hospital. You cant force a stretch when the body is that tight, you can cause more damage. Glad it works for some though. Its a really uncomfortable pain to live with.
@drchrisstepienclips3 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that Jessica. The treatment is only applied within a patient's range of motion. So if you have 20 degrees, then the doctor will see if you have tension at the sciatic nerve at 20 degrees. If not, you don't have adhesion and can't be helped with that specific treatment.

Had MRI and diagnosed 2 herniated disc pressing on sciatica nerve, adrenaline got me threw the day and once I got home I could barely get out of car. Chiropractor, PT, cortisone, steroid and epidural shots did nothing. Then it started on the other leg, pain was terrible could hardly walk, and finally got a physical therapist that new about the trigger points, pressing in the spots that you are and stretching like you are showing. I was told I needed Back surgery, scrape the squished disc away from the nerve and never had it.This kind of treatment works but It can get to the point with me that because of the way I walked for years, and the kind of work that I do just totally destroyed both hips, if I would have gotten this kind of treatment in the beginning of the problem I might not have been in intense pain for 10 years, just got a hip replacement and it's almost healed and I have to get the hip done very soon.

It's a relative thing. If your joints are that messed up, I wouldn't expect this to help a ton. Maybe it's 20-40% instead of 75-100% relief when you're younger. It depends how much adhesion you have relative to how bad the joint is. We've had people who were scheduled for disc surgery and cancelled it after getting adhesion removed. SO it's not ideal, but it's possible you can still get relief through adhesion release if you do it earlier than later.

My question from you, Sir! 1: How much does your clinic charge to visit patients like me, initially and then every visit afterwards? 2: How many visits do you think I might need? Thanks

Hello my friend. It doesn't sound like you have an entrapment at the piriformis. It sounds like a disc in your low back. See if you can find someone to remove the adhesion in your low back and psoas. We have some videos of what that looks like on our channel. 1: Assuming you've had pain more than 6 months and you've seen at least 3 other doctors or therapists (we wouldn't take you on otherwise until that point), we charge a case fee that ranges between $2k-$3k. It's expensive, but we're providing permanent relief and saving financial hassles and wasted energy in the future. Or, we take out of network insurance benefits. 2: Our average case length is 12 visits to maximal medical improvement, which is how much permanent relief is possible for you. : )

You could get it looked at by a Physical Therapist (not standard PT) who is trained in muscle and neuro/fascial manipulation and adjustment. They're hard to find and don't take insurance. I see one who is about $125 per visit. You can at least go once for an assessment. Whatever you do, don't get surgery!

I have had pain in this area for 15 years never seems to go away even with lots of physio . Had a lot of back issues but they are better but this is still there . Been treated for high hamstrings tendinitis and sciatica. Feel as if it will never go away. Total torture when sitting or driving. It's on my sit bone area also . But there is always a popping and clicking feeling coming from where you were putting your thumb on that guys sciatic nerve. I think my piriformis muscle might be stuck also .

Yes, my friend. Sound like it is a combination of disc damage pushing on the spinal cord nerve roots and "piriformis syndrome". This treatment is NOT done by many providers. You can try to find someone good at doing this, but it's taken us years of training to be able to feel the tissue the way we do. Do the best you can. You can also find one of my colleagues at integrativediagnosis.com/Find-an-ID-Provider

Can you exactly tell which stretch gives pain for piriformis syndrome? How we can confirm?
@drchrisstepienclips2 жыл бұрын
TOuching your toes would give pain if you had piriformis syndrome. But this could also be a disc too. There's no one stretch that only loads the piriformis and not the disc (at least very well).

Brandon White I was in so much pain I dragged myself to the bathroom in agony, screaming out. I finally went to the Chiro after 4 brutally painful weeks. He helped me a lot. I can walk without agony. I also used ice packs on lower back 20 mins on 40 mins off. The Chiro suggested it and it really works to tamper down the inflammation. I wish you well. People who haven’t had this pain don’t understand what we are hoping through. Ice it right now!!!

I had a sudden pain under my foot while walking 3,5 years ago, it never stopped from that time and I still could not walk for long without soles... 5 months ago, I got another acute pain right on the piriformis, on the same leg as where my foot hurts (I know this after having thinking I had a discal hernia). The two pains seem to be very similar and correlated. When I sit and I compress my rigt buttock, I got the acute pain on the piriformis and I feel that my all sciatic nerve is irritated until my right foot. Do you think that there is a chance to find somebody who might help me in France? Ostheopaths, chiropractors, physiotherapists could not help me further. Sorry by advance for my clumsy english. thanks you a lot.

I’ve had this pain for nearly a year now, in my piriformis and it gets worse with sitting down. It gets better with walking and sometimes it even goes away for a few days but then comes back again. At one point the pain was going down my leg but not recently. Ive seen a physiotherapist and a chiropractor, the chiro helping a little bit but I have the pain again rn. The chiro said to do planks to strengthen my core.. would this be a proper solution to get under the problem? What do you recommend I do next? I would really appreciate your help. Thanks!
@drchrisstepienclips5 жыл бұрын
The first thing to be clear about is that this type of pain is almost always a disc problem or an adhesion problem at the sciatic nerve and piriformis (or other hip exernal rotators). So while, strengthening the core may help, it's not going after the root issue. Is the pain numbness/tingling or something else? The quality of the pain will let you know if it's actually the sciatic nerve or not. Knowing the diagnosis is the first step because then it tells you what treatment you would need.
@jameswright23555 жыл бұрын
@@drchrisstepienclips Thanks for your quick response! To be honest I have never been given a diagnosis although I have done a nervous system functioning test which I have the results for if that would help for a diagnoses? If so I could send those by email? I have never experienced tingling or numbness it is basically a dull ache that can turn into a stabbing pain if it gets worse. It generally hurts when moving laterally, and raising the knee, (eg putting on clothes). Perhaps it could be an adhesive problem, what do you think?
