So if my Glock 19 gen5 comes from the factory with a combat hold and I install suppressor height sights on it, does this change it to a center hold?

Thank you so much! Just bought a sig p320 xvtac, and coming from a ruger sr9c i had NO idea there was such a thing as combat hold. I wasn't hitting jack until i realised i needed to aim behind the dot. I dont know if I'm just not used to it, but i HATE it, and will be adjusting my combat hold to center hold.
@OohDatsNasty
@OohDatsNasty 11 ай бұрын
Because the Sig P320 is the M17/M18 that the army contracted. Sig purposely made them with combat hold in mind, it’s easier for target acquisition and longer ranges faster. The Military is taught to shoot center mass so in a combat hold if the dot covers the target you will hit center mass , and at farther distances the dot may cover the whole target so you would cover the target and shoot and it will make contact , instead of having to sit and try and intersect the top of the sight with the middle of the chest. Also you’re supposed to keep both eyes open so you don’t loose sight of the target & eye relief

Which sights are you using? I would like to try out center-hold sights since I hate obscuring what I'm shooting.
@ChrisHirner
@ChrisHirner 3 жыл бұрын
every time i get a new gun i have to do this. It makes my brain hurt cause at 30 feet its pretty close to the same impact point with human error added in. then i run into beretta that is combat hold but when the sights line up the center dot is a little higher than the rear dots. spent 100 rounds just trying to figure out how to aim the thing. Im old so i always assume its center hold until the bottom of my target is full of rounds and the top is bare. Once you figure out which it is from the factory its not so bad til you buy a sub 300 dollar gun and the sights are merely cosmetic and you have to start your journey all over again.

I hope you do more in depth on the hold including the 6 o'clock hold and others. If you garnish this with a few nice pictures with some blur to show the sight pictures, it would really shine. It is rare to see something about that topic. It would be also interesting to see lots of interviews what people prefer which and their reasoning behind it to see what might be better or to know what gun brands leave the factory with what hold in mind. I think if some people are asked the right way they might offer some interesting views on that topic. There is little talk about what someone sees, what would irritate them based on the target or distance or what the prioritize. I'd even watch a whole hour just on that topic.
@TacticalHyve
@TacticalHyve 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is rare indeed. We've been surprised on multiple occasions when we find out people who have been teaching all their life never knew there was a difference. They only learned center hold and never questioned anything.

@@TacticalHyve I guess the problem lies in communicating the details that are visual. I often hear "I just look at my sights and press the trigger". The other problem is that some are so proficient that it all automated over time and they find it hard to pick it apart and it would lead to overthinking what they're already used to do. Maybe you can interview Karl from InRangeTV on the 6 o'clock hold. Would make a nice crossover footage. Another thing: When one says combat hold or center hold, or throw out "point of aim point of impact" is so often misunderstood or misrepresented that some are unsure what is even meant. Thx for reading this blob.

I can appreciate you sharing concepts with the noobs, even if you are making words up, but what range were these shots taken? If you're closer than 25 yards (standard 0 for handgun), your shots will go high, and by increasing the distance, your "center hold" will shoot low

This may be a dumb question but when shooting a pistol, do you shoot where the tip of the front sight is or do you aim just using the whole front sight?
@georgekromidas5097
@georgekromidas5097 Жыл бұрын
Most people do top of the front sight post as their point of aim. Personally I just put the center of the front sight on what I want to shoot (combat hold shown in the video) because that’s more intuitive for me. At distance though or small targets I use what most people are using because I have to

My X carry (possibly MOST Sigs) seem to be COMBAT HOLD and my glocks appear to all be Center Hold.
@jb6027
@jb6027 Жыл бұрын
Great explanation, "Combat Hold" seems to be a concept initiated by Sig. Although I love Sig pistols, as a life long precisionist, I really dislike the "Combat Hold" and there's no real reason to sight pistols the way Sig does it now. I've just spent a lot of money to get 3 X Ray Sights to shoot a "center hold". I wish that Sig wold rejoin the rest of the world and sight their pistol properly. The "Combat Hold" wasn't always a Sig thing. I have Sig 220 and 229 duty pistols that came from the factory dialed in perfectly for the center hold. Whoever at Sig proposed the "Combat Hold" idea should've been told to leave the meeting. This must have something to do with money - because Sig is selling a lot of extra sights fo people who want their pistols sighted in correctly.
@kevingamboa9420
@kevingamboa9420 Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if Sig initiated the Combat Hold and I'll give you 2 gun examples. The first, Beretta 92FS/M9 come with combat hold and if you want to go center hold you need to raise the rear sight to a 0.280 tall. Everytime I pick up a new Beretta, this is the first mod I have to perform. Is this a military thing to do business with guns that have a Combat Hold? The second example is Wilson Combat 1911s. I had my slide milled and put a Wilson Combat Battlesight for the 1911 and it required a 0.190 tall front sight. I noticed it shot low, and someone told me that it was set up for a Combat Hold. Had to go with a 0.180 to be at Center Hold. I think the military really likes the Combat Hold since the M9, M17, and M18 are all combat sight pictures and its like the companies have to make them with this sight picture to be military spec. In the end its just a guess as to the why

The comment section here is wild as fuck bro, kind of funny but kind of foul too 🥴 hell, im not even sure if you’re serious or not 🤷🏻‍♂️ but anyway, tactical hyve has a short video you might find helpful on this topic. It’s titled: Pistol accuracy & precision, combat hold and center hold. Also, just so you know.. sight height affects your POA (point of aim) vs your POI (point of impact) you gotta practice at closer distances to get a feel for where you’re hitting and gradually push out to further distances. Although I’d say between 3 yards to 7 yards if we’re talking defensive shooting for now.

That was interesting. I guess I am one of the old guys and I had not heard those terms, although I use the concept depending on which of my guns I am shooting. I have a 1911 and a Ruger 22 that I inherited from my dad that he had modified with "target sites" back in the day and just from repetition had used these concepts intuitively just because they shoot differently from my 357 or other revolvers or semis. It is just more from getting used to it. It is also interesting that I don't think I have ever seen guns advertised as relating to how their sites are set up. I have never been a great shot with a pistol so this is something I should pay closer attention to. Learn something new every day! Thanks for the video, even though it is a couple years old and I am just discovering your channel.

6 o'clock hold vs. Bullseye hold. Hate 6 o'clock hold its actually combat hold invented by the military so you can see easier if you hit the bad guy. POI is slightly higher than POA.
