I would love an updated version of this video with good hd video, make it a little easier to see whats happening. But really good info, and really good lure.

Several videos out there on this topic. Yours is one of the best. Simple instructions yet detailed enough to know exactly how to use this setup. Thanks.

You can make them, also they sell knockoffs... That being said I just bought 200 dollars worth of legitimate pistol Pete's because I live in trout county and typically slay them with mostly wolly buggers, peanut enys, mini sex dungeons, barley leagals "Kelly gallop flies" and of course the pistol Pete's because you can dead drift them and they'll do all the work for you

If you are learning to fish the Pistol Pete you need to slow the retrieve and fish it about 5-7 FEET IN THE WATER COLUMN WITH A FULL BUBBLE. COUNT IT DOWN 14 COUNTS AND RETREIVE IT SLOWLY OR AT A MEDIUM SPEED. GOOD LUCK AND HOPE YALL HAVE FUN.

I jigged it after letting it fall like a fly and started hammering channel catfish in the 3-6lbs range.

How would you know the fish strike if the float moves freely on your line since you don't put a stopper in front of the bubble?
@HiCountryFlies7 жыл бұрын
The swivel will act as a stopper as you reel your line in. If a fish were to strike, however, you would feel a tug on your line and the tension as you reel it in. I hope this answers your question!

Good video, but it's a "clinch" knot (not a "cinch" knot) and when you're describing fluorocarbon line it's typically listed by an "X" factor, i.e., 6lb. test = 3X fluoro (and the size you use depends on the fly/lure you're throwing, size of fish, water conditions, etc.). Lastly, your Pistol Pete might work well for small stocked stillwater trout in 55-65 degree water, but for big, wild trout in a stream with colder water, well...

No one is buying this to catch trophy trout in moving water, but thanks for the information. Gatekeep much?
