Amazing personal thing. As a little kid, the very first NBA game I ever went to was a Hawks/Cavaliers game in the Cav's inaugural season and FOUR of Pete's assists from that game are on this video. I remember Cleveland diehards getting mad at the people applauding Pete with enthusiasm. Sorry, but #15 was not an assist. Giving a guy the ball at the top of the key didn't lead directly to the basket. But I agreed with the "hockey assist" one.

Pete's work ethic and mind for the game, let alone his incredible hand speed would make him pne of the most dangerous guards even today
@MrHowie1810 ай бұрын
The point is he was the first to do a variety of street ball flash passing! I watched him on TV at LSU in games were he had 12 assists each one a circus no look whatever! Only averaged 6 career in college and pros. The teams needed 35 or more points from Pete to have a chance. If he had another top scorer and focused on assists he would be a 10+

And remember these passes were taken from a limited selection; many on this list would never be there if we had access to more film. Have you ever seen anyone throw an "in front of their body pass" that goes to the player cutting on the opposite side? This is available on youtube but was not included on this list...Nobody today passes like the Pistol could pass...nobody...

@@emetechad4621 Here is what Pat Reilly said about Maravich: He was the original. "When you talk about Showtime, you talk about creativity, and bringing a whole different concept to the game of basketball. Pete was the original. He opened the minds of a lot of players as to how the game should be played. What he could do with the basketball at full speed was incredible. He was the best ball handler I ever saw. Ever. Pat Riley/Lakers Coach." And he said that after having coached Magic Johnson to championships.
