RIP gentlemen, I’m sure you did everything within your capabilities to keep that bolt bucket airborne. It was clear from the ATC that you were not expecting half of the left wing to explode 1,000 feet from the ground. I hope that some good, if any, comes in the way of DC-4/DC-6/DC-7 operators out there tightening things up in the maintenance hangar. These men were brave as hell flying that plane, and will not be forgotten. 🙏

Thank you for this very fitting acknowledgment to the sad fate of this beautiful DC-4. The accident happened just a few weeks ago I believe.. and I agree may the pilots rest in peace🙏🙏🙏.

I have worked on the DC4 for many years as an engineer assistant. Love these old girls 😍

You’re very lucky to work on these piston pounders. The last time I flew on a DC-4 was with Buffalo Airways in the mid 90s, so it’s been a few years for me.

Gosh, that's too bad about the loss of this Skymaster and its crew. By the way, I understand this was originally a C-54D which would mean it was built at the Douglas-Chicago plant at Park Ridge, IL during WWII (the far northeast section of Chicago's O'Hare Field today).

Sad fact: this was the same dc-4 that crashed right after takeoff on 4/23/24, it was caused by an engine explosion. Unfortunately all 2 crew on board died in the crash..

I lived in Fairbanks from 1990 until 2003, working as an A&P for Frontier Flying Service on the other side of the airport from Roger's operation. I knew Jeff pretty well he was always at Frontier borrowing parts lol

Did Frontier Flying Service operate DC-3s? I think I recall seeing on at the DC-3 Armada at Abbotsford in summer of 1986.

This is the same plane that just crashed on 4/23/24, killing both the pilot and co-pilot. It had a catastrophic engine failure in the #1 engine. It crashed shortly after takeoff into a bluff on the Tanana River. Rest in Peace to the crew members.
