4shacks1house Thats not true, the rules for the 91 season had been changed in 89 requiring 3.5 n.a. engines. Cars like the 962, mercedes, jags and the were allowed to run but heavily handicapped. For the race the Mazda qualified near the rear of field. Because of the changes to the old cars it made the normally reliable cars like the 962 and mercedes breakdown. Yes the mazda won but only after the other cars ran into problems.

thats right. the 787B ran a 2.6 liter 4 rotor which was capable of 700hp N/A but was reduced to around 620hp to keep it from wearing out completely in a 24 hour race

Sachs Dolmar has little rotary engines and rotary engine chainsaws which is pretty cool but hard to find as they are very sort after. Great for kitchen or coffee table display and the occasional startup.

rotary wins. ci to ci. you can make a 13b 600 hp with aggressive porting and carbs. if you take a twin turbo big block v8 track boat. vs single turbo 26b the rotary makes same power. on 9-13lbs of boost.

Just out of curiosity, what exactly is a weird shaped circle? the shaft in the heart of a rotary engine is called an eccentric shaft for a reason i.e-eccentric means 'off center' the off center lobes look like a camshaft and act very much like a crankshaft in a piston engine. then there's the epitrochoidial shape that is the internal profile of the rotor housing. this epitrochoidial shape interacts with the triangular rotor and eccentric shaft

to create sealed pockets of space and the rotor has room to spin freely and create compression in those pockets. then next is about momentum of when the spark ignites the air/fuel mixture at top dead center(that is actually on the side of the housing where the spark plugs are).. momentum is what keeps the engine rotating in the same direction because without it the forces exerted from the combustion on the rotor is exactly the same and you will get detonation without mometum

Piston is your normal engine with one piston per cylinder usually 4, 6, 8, or more, operates on 4 stroke cycle intake compression power exhaust in a up and downward motion. Down intake vaccum, compression is when the piston goes up so it compresses the air and fuel, power is a downward motion when the fuel and air is ignited and they expand creating power, exhaust stroke is when the exhaust valve will open and push the bad exhaust air out, and repeat at a faster rpm.

Rotary is a hard setup to understand kind of, think of a circle with a gear looking thing in it it will have like 4 lobes spining, it basically uses a wierd shaped circle which will be your cylinder and the piston is the gear type of look, you should search it because it's kind of hard to describe, theres alot more going on, but tons less moving parts.

thenn there's porting, which is just the sized and shape hole that the intake/exhaust is to create more efficient airflow.. there's the apex seals that seal the rotor and the surface of the housing, the water seals that seal the coolant jacket from the rotors business chambers, there's the side seals and their springs that seal the face of the rotor from the irons. there's the different materials used like plated nitrided surfaces ect. it's not hard to understand at all man :)

p.s always use lower octane fuel in n/a rotary engines because this will exert less force on the rotor wanting to 'kick back' like i said momentum is a big part and you actually want lesser octane fuel in n/a rotarys to give it a lesser amount of a fight to rotate faster. rotors 4 lyf. :)

for a v8 = rotory you need 4 rotors. thats called a 26b. those are almost always raced NA and easily keep up with v8's a 2 rotor is = too a 4 banger.

Well why not shorten the width on your muscle cars, if it such a good idea? . How are they even qualified or allowed to race? Those cars are like sticking a rocket engine on a pencil, and expecting it to go straight. Those top fuel dragsters that are skinny are dropped as low as possible to the ground, while also balanced for the purpose, plus a lot longer, ultimately making it safe to drag. . The factory cars are (Why would you manufacture such a skinny car? You could just basically make it into a one seater. Two fat guys would be crammed together on a roller coaster ride!)way to skinny: NHRA (rotary rules) Section 5, wheels and tires: " not extend outside body line"!!? So why was it designed that way? Did "they" see it coming...? . I don't want to lose my brain this early in the morning trying to find the frame height... but wouldn't help it to stay balanced if it was dropped to the ground? . The has to be a squirrely ass, scary car to drive down the track!!

I can tell allot of people around here don't know shit about Rotary. there are secrets and tricks that can be done to a Rotary to beat any piston. from .4 to v8. some can't be reveal right now but I a going to reveal some. 12A or 13B no turbo.. 1.grind the intake make it half inch wider 2. smooth out and polish intake. 3.drill, grind, smooth out and polish a half moon shape hole on top of intake until it meets with main tunnel. 4. make your own fuel injection with using double pump.

rotary engine don't really have much power.. they have the rpm advantage. if they are reving at 13,000 when they drop that clutch, if their clutch is good they're gonna have a good launch and down the straight since they rev higher they'll create more speed per shift. rotary engines... good for drag racing and daily driving, but will get smoked by pistons in mud, towing or rock climbing because they have 1/2 the power

not really, if there is one thing the mazda rx8 proved it is that a rotary engine produces more power per cc than a piston engine. The rx8 has a 1.3L engine producing 230+HP

but less torque... rotary engine don't have much torque at all they only have power because of their high rpms. power gets increased as the times per firing decrease. its kind of like electric engines. gas/diesel engines will destroy them in hp but electric engines have so much torque they can choose to run only 1 gear...

Magucci13 make up your mind, are we talking about torque or power? two different things. As far as torque is concerned the reason why a rotary engine is said to be low on torque is because, again they produce more HP per cc.so we don't really need a big displacement to produce HP, less displacement generally means less torque. but if we compare a 1.3L mazda rotary vs. 1.5L honda gas piston engine. the mazda not only has more HP but also more torque.

Magucci13 For racing purposes the lack in torque is not noticeable in my opinion because the engine always operates at high RPMs. only draw back i can see is that they require more gasoline to operate and they are maintenance hungry engines.
